In this video, we take a nostalgic journey through television history, shining a spotlight on classic shows where only one main cast member remains. From the zany castaways of Gilligan's Island to the lovable hillbillies of The Beverly Hillbillies, these series left an unforgettable mark on pop culture and continue to captivate audiences decades after their original runs.
We explore the careers and lives of the last surviving stars, sharing little-known facts and behind-the-scenes stories. Did you know that Tina Louise initially hesitated to take the role of Ginger, fearing it would typecast her? Or that Max Baer Jr., who played Jethro on The Beverly Hillbillies, later became a successful businessman and filmmaker?
The video also delves into the personal struggles and triumphs of stars like Todd Bridges, who battled addiction and legal troubles before turning his life around, and Demond Wilson, who became an ordained minister and founded a prison ministry after Sanford and Son.
Through interviews, clips, and rarely seen photos, we celebrate the enduring legacy of these shows and the actors who brought them to life. From the groundbreaking comedy of Sanford and Son to the ahead-of-its-time farce of Three's Company, these series broke barriers and paved the way for future generations of television stars.
But the video is more than just a tribute to the past. It's a reminder of the power of television to bring us together, to make us laugh, and to touch our hearts. These shows and their stars are a part of our shared cultural heritage, a link to a time when families gathered around the TV to share in the laughter and the tears.
As we honor the last surviving cast members of these beloved series, we also look to the future. What new shows and stars will capture our hearts in the decades to come? And how will we remember and celebrate them when they, too, are the last of their kind?
So join us on this journey through TV history, as we pay tribute to the shows and stars that have meant so much to us over the years. And share your own memories and thoughts in the comments below - because in the end, it's the fans who keep the legacy of these classic series alive.

Not only is John Astin the last surviving cast member from "The Addams Family", he is also the last surviving male Villain from "Batman", having played The Riddler in 2 episodes that Frank Gorshin did not play the part.
Oddly enough, both Caroline Jones and Ted Cassidy were both on Batman as well. Not the same episode though.
Ted played Lurch in a window scene.
Interesting, thanks for sharing this info about John. Which episode of Addams Family appealed to you the most?
I met Jerry Mathers 2 years ago in Concord CA, at a 1 day Comicon event. Very nice man, and was very happy to meet him, and get me, and my wife and daughter taken a picture with him. Not much of a talker, but very polite, and was a pleasure to meet him in person.
We're very happy to know that you had a chance to meet Jerry and had a nice time!
For a while Jerry was hanging around Memphis going to our city's hockey games. He'd drive the zamboni machine and reglaze the ice during halftime. A lot of people were too young to really know who Mather's was, but for us who grew up watching Leave it to Beaver, it was like family and we loved it. He was a great guy, and it was cool to see him having such a good time, but I still remember how surreal it seemed to me.
John Astin was irreplaceable in that part, pure perfection.
So true! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. What other types of video would you like to see on our channel?
John Astin WAS Gomez. All of the ones that follow up in the movies and worse.. Wednesday... Not even in the same class... I think the show flops without him.
Who would have thought he would be the last surviving cast member? Both Wednesday and Pugsley died first.
Evil Roy Slade!! Fabulous!
Alan Hale Jr. who died at age 68 (March 8, 1921 - January 2, 1990) was an American actor and restaurateur.[1] He was the son of actor Alan Hale Sr.[1] His television career spanned four decades, but he was best known for his secondary lead role as Captain Jonas Grumby, better known as The Skipper, on the 1960s CBS comedy series Gilligan's Island (1964-1967),[1] a role he reprised in three Gilligan's Island television films and two spin-off cartoon series.
Man, I'd have given anything to have gotten to go to Hawaii and visit Hale's restaurant. I'm never ashamed to tell people that my favorite show growing up as a kid was Gilligan's Island, and the show never fails to make me laugh when I'm feeling down. When I was fishing in Alaska, I discovered that Russell Johnson lived on an Island close by and was involved in theater in the Seattle area. Have two autographed pictures of him that I will always treasure.
Demond Wilson was also on The New Odd Couple as Oscar Madison in 1982.Also there was Michael McKean who's the only surviving main cast member of Laverne and Shirley. He played Lenny.
Thanks for the info!
Carole White (Rosie) is still living, as is Leslie Easterbrook, and Vicki Lawrence.
Ed Marinaro, briefly a regular on Laverne and Shirley before joining the cast of Hill Street Blues, is also still alive.
Barbara Feldon is the only surviving main cast member of Get Smart. Bernie Kopell is still alive, but he was not a member of the main cast.
Tina Louise from "Gilligan's Island" and John Astin from "The Addams Family" have managed to keep the spirit of their shows alive for new generations of fans.
Micky Dolenz does the same for The Monkees.
Nancy Kulp was also a main cast member of The Beverly Hillbillies. She played Miss Jane Hathaway. Kulp passed in 1992. And Joyce DeWitt is NOT the only main cast member of Three's Company to still be alive. Richard Cline (Larry) is still alive as well.
Klein.
The two other actresses who replaced Suzanne Dummer are still alive as well.
Kline, not Cline nor Klein. Lol 🤷

The irony is most members of The Addams Family cast died young. The show ended in 1966, but after the death of Jackie Coogan in 1984, John Astin was the only surviving adult cast member. Felix Silla was alive, but he wasn’t a main cast member.
Through this whole thing, I kept thinking: OK, here's who smoked and who didn't. Or who was able to quit in time. Everyone smoked back then, and inevitably it caught up with many.
Sad but true. May those cast members find peace. Which episode of Addams Family appealed to you the most?

John Astin was also great as Harry’s dad on Night Court ironically living longer than Harry Anderson.
So true! What is your favorite episode of Nigh Court?
Love John Astin pulling a lite cigar out of his pocket. Read somewhere he had an asbestos lined pocket in his coat but was burned a few times despite this. Love him in everything he's done. Keep on keep'n on man. You are loved.

Three's Company, Richard Kline/Priscilla Barnes/Jenilee Harrison are still alive. Should include I Dream of Jeanie, Barbara Eden only cast member still alive.
Joyce DeWitt is still alive. Many of you people have forgotten this.
And The Streets of San Francisco, w/Michael Douglas (Malden and Hatch having long left [Malden in 2009, Hatch in 2017]).
There's a few other shows with only one main cast member alive
1) Michael McKean from Laverne and Shirley
2) Julie Kavner from Rhoda
3) Patty Maloney from Far Out Space Nuts
4) Erin Murphy from Bewitched
5) Barbara Eden from I Dream of Jeannie
6) Ron Howard from The Andy Griffith Show

Elinor Donahue...Still alive.
Actually, Elinor Donahue, who was in Season 2 of Andy Griffith is still living. I don't think she was on it for more than a couple of seasons, but she's alive at age 87. Posting 7-13-24.
Ah Patty Maloney, and that Gilligan's Island connection. Still waiting for them to release the entire run on blu-ray which it doesn't look like we'll ever get.
John Astin not only outlived his Addams Family children, he has also outlived Harry Anderson, who played his son on Night Court.
So true! We love John. What is your episode of Addams Family?
John Astin was also one of the main characters in "Operation Petticoat" on the ABC network (1977). I suspect there are several surviving actors from that series however, since many of them were young women at the time. For sure, Jamie Lee Curtis is still around.
Micky Dolenz(The Monkees) should be on this list.

Unfortunate that you omitted Nancy Kulp from The Beverly Hillbillies mention. Her chasing after Jethro was a big source of laughs.

Also, Jethro was the nephew of Jed Clampett, not a cousin! It is always difficult to believe statements from these types of videos when even a few of the facts are incorrect or omitted.

I would argue that Richard Kline (Larry) was a "main" character on Three's Company, and he is still alive.
I believe Priscilla Barnes aka Terri is still alive as well.
@@juliekline2871 except neither of them weren't original cast members of Three's Company. Larry was recurring in the beginning until becoming a regular later on. When you mention Mork & Mindy - don't forget Orson! He was as much a main character as any, even though it was just his voice. Ralph James did pass away, in 1992
All the people we've lost that brought so much joy to us all. Sad.
You are quite wrong about Threes Company, Priscilla Barnes is still alive and so is Richard Klein who played Larry.
I recall watching repeats of Steptoe and Son as a kid growing up in the 80s. It would be a few decades later that I would come across Stanford and Son which you could tell right away was based on the British series. The distinct cultural differences, however, allows each series to stand on it own.
Sanford and Son was such a great funny show.
Amazing that Jon Aston is still alive having smoked all those cigars 🙈
That was a picture of Priscilla Barnes, NOT Susanne Somers!!!
Thanks for pointing this out. We'll check the video!
AI does that a lot....
There are more cast members alive in Three's Company, Joyce DeWitt isn't the last surviving cast member. Richard Kline, Priscilla Barnes, and Jenilee Harrison are all still alive, and they were all regulars. And as for Diff'rent Strokes, Mary Jo Catlett, who joined the cast later, is still alive. Danny Cooksey is also still alive.

It amazes me how these classic shows that were so popular rose to fame, were at the top of their game, went through declining ratings and were cancelled all within 3 years. Time seemed slower in those days.
In Threes Company, you forgot about Richard Kline as Larry, Don Knotts as Mr. Fully and Jenny Lee Harris as Cindy Snow as well as the actor who played Chrissy's father who guest starred on many epidodes.
Ron Howard is the last surviving cast member from The Andy Griffith.
Incorrect. Elinor Donahue is still alive.
What about Sally Field of The Flying Nun and Michael Cole of the Mod Squad?
They didn't even mention that banker lady Jane Hathaway from The Beverly Hillbillies. She was in every episode IIRC or just about but absolutely an important main character. She died in 1991 and deserves honorable mention.

Ironic that Tina Louise is the only surviving member of Gilligan's Island and actually hated the show, and for decades wouldn't even acknowledge it. She wanted out and it's pretty much been confirmed that had the show gotten a fourth season she would have been written off the show with some miraculous accident and been replace with another character.
For fans of old shows and movies, it's always sad to know that the actors of those shows either had a difficult time during production, or disliked their stint on a show that so many people enjoy; especially comedies where it appears everyone was having a good time and doubly so when you know that there are actors who would give anything to be part of something that people still fondly remember decades after it's over.
Jethro Bodine was the nephew of Jed Clampett, not cousin. That's why he called him Uncle Jed.
The only thing that ticked me off was he never got even to first base, Beverly Hills to boot, give me a break. Then it was amusing to see him down a box of cereal at one sitting.
Regarding who was related to whom on the Beverly Hillbillies, it was my understanding that
Jed and Jethro's mother Pearl were first cousins, NOT siblings, making Jed and Jethro first cousins once removed, not actually uncle and nephew.
Jethro may have thought of Jed as more of an "uncle" then a cousin because of their age difference and relationship.
And let's not forget that Jed calls his mother-in-law "Granny".
@@radicalross7700 Pearl Bodine was Jed Clampett's late wife's sister, so a sister-in-law. Elly Mae's mother is Jed's late wife. Jethro and Elly Mae are cousins.
@@philcarbone3996 If Pearl Bodine was Jed's sister-in-law, then, like Jed's late wife, she would also be Granny's daughter. She wasn't. It's clear to anyone that they weren't mother and daughter (Granny once knocked Pearl unconscious with a skillet. Deliberately.)
Anyway, I checked. Pearl and Jed were first cousins . I could find nothing that indicates otherwise. If you have, please tell me where it can be found.
@@radicalross7700 So why would Jethro call Jed uncle? When Mr. Drysdale gave Jethro a job at Commerce Bank, he is referred to as Jed Clampett's nephew. So Granny hits Pearl with a skillet. That proves nothing. Jed's late wife is the key to the family. The presenter makes numerous mistakes. On another video he said Red Skelton was in the cast of Cheers.
