Most helpful tutorial, ever! Thanks, Brad. I'm going to go through again, and make notes locating each feature on this video so it can be a quick reference. 🌟⭐
WOW! This is a fantastic video for this machine. I am so impressed with your awesome presentation and appreciate you taking the time to delve into your top 10 features. I can't wait to learn more from you and watch this again. Thank You!!!
Good gravy, young man!! This was THE BEST video I have seen about this new machine. I have one on order here in the UK and was hesitant about keeping the order as I have a 790 (not the Pro) and it really is all I need for the sewing I do (mostly piecing for quilts [I do have a long arm] and a bit of mending), but the more I see all the bells and whistles with this 990, I just might have to eat rice and beans the rest of my life so I can afford this baby!! What an awesome bit of sewing technology!! Thank you so much!!
I’ve watched so many videos re the 990, and this video absolutely best bc it’s clear and thorough re all the best features. This is the video I can now share with friends to explain why the 990 is way better than my 880 which I love. And easily justifies its replacement! I don’t have a, nor have room for, a longarm w frame, so this will be fantastic for my quilting! Thank you, Brad!
Thank you so much Brad for this wonderful video! You really helped me to understand a lot of the features of this machine. You explained everything clearly! Thanks 😊 🎉
I never thought I’d buy another BERNINA after I obtained my SE peacock addition 790 in 2021 …. The 990 is expensive…but.this machine is unreal…thank you for the great video. It’ll be watched several times while I wait for my new machine!
Picking mine up at Berry Patch in Ft. Worth on Thurs! I've been a Berlin's girl since the 60's. Right now I have 6 of them. Thanks for helping me justify the cost😁 I'm EXCITED!!!
Oh My Gosh!! What a Machine!! My favorites are the wording on everything, and the tracing the camera does for decorative stitches so you can see exactly where it is at! So many wonderful examples you have shown. Now, do I want to spend around $24-$25 K on it??? I think it's worth it. Wonderful video!
Thanks, Brad. I thought I was done after my B770 QE w/Plus Upgrade and embroidery module, I love my machine, but the B990 is exactly what I want. Do I need it, I'd say not, at 23K, it cost more than my car. I'm so glad they did away with the B880's quirky bobbin/hook arrangement and threading. I'm sure they're problematic, I know a dealer who won't carry it. Bernina really gave lots of thought to developing the B990. Anyway, the B990 dream machine will be a winner, though I'll need to sell my car and add money along with it. LOLOL!!!!! Brad, can you tell me why Bernina packages the external BSR with the B990 when it's already integrated? I see it in the list of items packaged with it. 🪡
@@EllicottCitySewVac But why not have that same coded stitchplate capability with the integrated BISR? For me and for 23K it seems more practical to have the integrated BISR offering that same feature. I know practicality and marketing are two different things, and I also know BSRs are not free when its part of the package.....I'm just saying. Peace!
I was told that originally the BISR was going to be a later upgrade option, but when Janome and Brother were going to use their version of the BSR they put it on
Thank you. Great video. From what I have seen this does not have the capability of projecting the embroidery design on the fabric like the baby lock and brother machines have. It’s an awesome machine.
I wouldn't say that, they are both excellent machines. Depends on what is more important to you, dead perfect accuracy and uncompromising control over your stitches on the Bernina or ease of use and less finicky maintenance along with more creative embroidery functions on the Baby Lock. Best option is to have both!
@@EllicottCitySewVac I’m trading in my Luminaire to get the b990. I’ve loved Bernina machines since the 80’s. I tried the Brother because it looked so impressive but I just couldn’t bond with it. I kept going back to my 790. The only feature the Babylock has that I envy is that massive projection screen.
Great overview!-do you know if you can create a “long” satin stitch in the Designer Plus software and embroidery it so you can create a “fringe effect”
“This is the 9mm stitch plate, and it comes with a 5mm stitch plate and a 0mm stitch plate” “You can set the stitches in stitch-per-inch, because this is America, we use inches”. Literally made me laugh out loud 😂😂😂😂 Love the introduction to the machine. I love when men are interested and clearly excited by sewing machines. Makes me feel like I’m not alone ❤
..any hint about a new version of Design Plus-the machine can now do more than the software-I ordered a 990 but don’t know if it is worth changing my software (mysewnet which actually runs on a Mac) unless their are additional features (or at least equivalent)
@@EllicottCitySewVac Thanis for following up--I did just find out that they will be adding features to Design Plus v9.2 to until compatibility with the 990 (added the hoop--not sure what else)
I notice there are 8 selection points around the bounding box on a design. Can you skew a design from all points or just the 4 corners. All embroidery areas are not 4 sided . Loved the video.
The ECO button functionality has been moved to the new lock screen button, which can both lock the screen so you don't accidentally hit anything, or turn off the lights and darken the tablet like the old eco mode.
Yes, you can use an iphone, ipad or android device to track your embroidery design progress, and also to view the help center separately from the machine screen.
Does the machine starts immediately when pressing the foot pedal or start button? I would consider it a huge improvement, the extremely slow Bernina start always annoyed me…
Ok so the first time you hit the gas after turning it on it still has to stop and hum and vibrate and think about it before going, but after that it just goes when you tell it to. Definitely feels faster when you turn off any automatic presser foot functions and just use the good old knee lift!
@@EllicottCitySewVac Oh thank you… what I hate is when the machine take its time then take a first stitch, then another and then only moves the way I want. Each time. Drives me nuts… so this one starts faster. Very good, and many thanks for this very informative video. I am watching from France where as usual there no information.
Thats true. Some key differences though - I WISH the Vision had the ability to read longarm files, and the laser on this is just 100x more accurate for placing the start point on a quilting design than the projector on the vision. Also, you can't scale the built in letters like this machine can which is really neat. Both awesome machines though, I've sold tons of Solarises!

I'd be interested to compare the 990 to the upcoming Brother/Babylock top of the line machines.

Hi Brad, thank you for your great explanation. The very best video about the wonderful Bernina 990. It's awesome.

Beast of a machine Brad. You continue tempting us. So hard to resist 😁
Great list of important features. Thank you.

The integrated regulator requires the 5.5mm plate, if you want to quilt with the 0mm straight stitch plate you have to use the standard bsr.

True, it doesn't have a projector. The laser is more accurate for placing a start point exactly, though.

I’ve watched both videos B990 and Babylock Radiance. So it sounded to me you were more impressed with the Babylock. Am I correct

@@EllicottCitySewVac hahahahah freedom units. 😂😂😂😂. Brilliant.
I have being saying it for years that the slide on table should have legs.
QUESTION about the tablet: You demonstrated a search using a number, but can it search by typing a stitch name too?
number only, on the sewing side. Embroidery can be searched by filename though.

Yes, you can use an iphone, ipad or android device to track your embroidery design progress, and also to view the help center separately from the machine screen.
Does the thread cutter work any faster than on the B880+ ? I find it so slow that I just cut the thread myself.
Well I can't say for sure, never had an 880, but its the same speed as a 7 or 5 series which I don't find to be noticeably slow to cut

42 lbs
Lots of the same capabilities of the Babylock Solaris Vision!
