  • Hi there, I'm Eileen. During my shopaholic years, I loved splurging on expensive luxury skincare. When you spend $200 on a bottle of serum, you naturally expect it to do amazing things for your skin. But do these products always deliver just because of their high-end price point? In this video, I talk about if luxury skin care products are actually worth buying.

There are a few honest dermatologists on RUclips that do a great job of recommending effective products that are affordable.

I have been in Paris and I love how drugstores are all about skin care and almost everything were pretty affordable. I have been loving La Roche Posse skincare. I was amazed when I saw Doctorly recommending some products of that brand. This can also be applied to makeup ❤ Great video!

Thank you for your insights! I do agree that most skincare products are overpriced, but devices are worth investing in. I keep my skincare minimal, on the cheap side, but I do use a few devices from foreo which are just as effective with drugstore skincare as they would be with expensive, high end skincare.

Skincare is 80% working on physical health & mental health and only 20% is skincare and special skin treatment. I have a similar story to you, but it was Chinese Medicine that improve my condition. Now I practice healthy living, take care of my mind, simple skincare products routine and once a month spa facial pampering session

You are so on point. My dermatologist recommended Cerave facial wash after I went to her with skin issues. I’ve spent so much money through the years on high end products. Now I use a sunscreen from Drmtology and their moisturizer at night. My skin looks better than ever at a quarter of the price. La Mer clogged my pores.

I alternate between luxury skin care and drugstore popular ones. Prior to important dates I use luxury skin care to make myself feel the best. Using the drugstore ones save money for me. I think I am going to continue this practice to balance everything

I have found that sometimes luxury skincare items work best on my skin and sometimes drugstore products do, so my skincare products are a mixture of both at any given time. The big thing with me is that I have allergies so every product must be fragrance free.
I have also found that as I get older I have to change my products roughly every 10 years. I also rotate products like moisturisers and serums regularly because my skin reacts very well to being kept confused and not having a rigid routine.

I agree and watch several derms on RUclips, including Doctorly. Active ingredients seem to be the key. I spend more on things like Vitamin C serum, retinol, and sunscreen. The rest I don’t splurge on anymore, especially overpriced moisturizers with no actives in them. Seems like an elegant waste of money to me now.

Chanel's eye makeup remover and eye cream are the only expensive ones I spring for. Youth to the People is a good brand for moisturizers and mask. It can be expensive, but I make sure everything lasts a good while before replacing them. My most affordable product is my cleanser, CeraVe, just cuz I use it all the time and I know it works.

From my Working years upto now that I am a house wife and a Mom I simply maintain my drugstore skincare since I am consistent when it comes to skincare I can say that When taking care of your skin is already a part of your lifestyle though it's affordable your skin will still look amazing. Consistency is the key not the pricing of the product. When you already found what works for you be consistent. Thanks Eileen. 🥰🙏

Hi Eileen, I do not entirely agree with you. After having babies my skin got so bad; my forehead was peeling and I spent so much money trying different products whether it is cheap or expensive…. Different oils, different serums, different moisturisers…. Nothing worked. Until finally a friend recommended me to try Dr Sturm hyaluronic serum and I almost died when I saw the price. I ended up buying a small kit and within 2 days, my skin was no longer flakey. Amazing product! It hurts to have to pay so much but this is the only thing that works for me. I can’t tell you how much of thousands of dollars I spent before that and nothing worked.

After years of being enticed by products touted by beauty magazines to deliver all kinds of benefits that i never realised i need, my skincare products now mostly comprise the very affordable Hada Labo cleanser and toner and 1 Shiseido daytime moisturiser, and overnight masks from cosrx.
Also, I believe good habits + consistency >>>> products, so if my skin is not at its best, i can only blame myself because i fell asleep without applying skincare 😅

Dr dray is great to watch on RUclips. For luxury skincare I use Estee Lauder advanced night repair serum and Paula's Choice intensive wrinkle repair retinol serum. Slap Cerave moisturizing cream on top and call it a night.

I’m almost 50 and my skin is better than girls in their 20s. I get stopped on the streets and by so many ppl asking for my skincare routine. Honestly I have perfect skin since I was a teen and I started taking care of my skin once I hit 30. I use very cheap skincare but I have a skincare routine which I commit to twice a day. I think it helps to maintain. The only expensive skincare products I believe in investing is eye products. So in conclusion, our gene, routine and what we eat can help maintain beautiful skin.

when people spend on luxury products including skincare, its not just about the efficacy but how you feel using the products so its about the emotional value/perception and that's what people are chasing the feeling of something. For me personally I have a mix of mid level brands like Elemis, Strivectin, Skinceuticals and Murad. I have tried Lamer (not worth it) and now I don't spend over $200 for any skincare product.

For the past 8 years my morning & nighttime skincare routine average about $3,000 usd but after i had covid something change in my skin and every time i use my usual products it would burn my skin. Now I can only apply Cerave moisturizer and Aquafor.
I miss my expensive skincare. It’s a luxury to apply and i get pretty glowy skin when i wake up. Covid is a bitch it also cause me hair loss 😟
Not dissing drugstore skincare but it’s doesn’t perform as well for my skin type. Not a nice experience to apply …. Doesn’t have the slip and calming sensation as my fancy products.

La Mer is awful - I had to stop it also for the clogging feeling. Also, its main ingredient is petroleum jelly.

    • @camelliainzurich1262
      @camelliainzurich1262 4 месяца назад

Petroleum jelly is probably the very best barrier cream ever. Look up the term "slugging". It is only for people with very dry skin who need a barrier so they don't lose moisture and hydration. If you don't need that then it's not for you. La Mer is the best thing for my skin but it's not for everyone.

It whatever suits the person. Luxury if good for tht person & can afford tht’s ok. Drugstore ones if good for tht person tht’s ok. Worth/Not worthed not relevant. If the luxury ones didn’t work for you, maybe that’s subjective. There’s going to be ppl counter this argument say drugstore skincare doesn’t work for them, only luxurious ones do. Just sayin’ 🙏🏻

I also went through so much with my skin & also worked in the beauty department, so had acces to trying all the products. After trying all the products & treatments in my twenties I also visited my moms dermatologist & she diagnosed a dermatitis (overusing products & she also said my skin needs „a vacation“). She recommended Cetaphil, etc. - also my skin is better than ever now. Thanks for this video - 🩷
