Buddy 2020&2021 that would be something that i was consider I had r7 250x 1gb gpu , and that was issue with come games like Fallout 4 , and with ridiculus prices in GPU where I was living 1030 2000kr (200$)... used , a card that are not as good to pay 3 times that gpu was worth before covid , so spending some cash to upgrate ram in covid is literally worth it , sadly ... or great now GPU's are back to normal prices and I have bough r9 390 8gb for 800kr (80$) week ago , and I am happy with that , but still perspective of ram upgrate is tempting , not with r9 , but when I looked for gpu and there where number of cheap GTX 1060 with 3gb ram , and upgrate for 6gb might be option for some .
@@huzarion3814 Even if you upgrade a 1060 to 6 from 3, you still wont have a 6 gb 1060 performance. There is more than just a memory difference between the 2, the 3 gb variant actually has cores shaved off, its not nearly as powerful.

I once made an GTX 1060 8GB , With an hacked 1070 bios. Works just fine ! Used 2 Vram chips from another (dead) 1060 6Gb card. It's always good to keep "dead" GPU's around !

You can also edit the gpu bios/efi file. Back in the day, there were many files floating around, pre modded. Also, i am pretty sure I flashed a pci 6200fx with 256mb of vram with a pci-e rom and it worked perfect (not sure if the memory was a match) Great job tho, its now a much better upgrade

Thats not how graphics cards work, You can have a 200GB card from 2000, it wont run faster than a 8GB card from 2021. due to the limitations of architecture they used back then

The VRAM amount is set by the VBIOS. If there is a VBIOS available for a card with a higher VRAM amount, then you can upgrade the VRAM on that card and flash the respective VBIOS.

@@MLGPRO-dx8fg Removable memory modules have what are called SPD EEPROMs on them, which have data on them that tell the machine what characteristics are of the memory on that module. On machines/boards with non-upgradeable memory, there is no need for this, and the memory characteristics are hard coded in the device's BIOS.

Would be cool if that would be possibile with the current nvidia 4000 Series, they are lacking a huge deal of vram. Maybe even chat-gpt like programs are able to write bios versions, so it matches the amount of ram you want to install.

Great job, interesting technique with adding flux to the chips like that. I usually spread flux on the pads on the board then put the chips. Any specific reason for that you did it that way (just curious)?
So you are saying that you have to have the right amount of ram to match the bios. So a PC Radeon 9200 256mb video card could not be flashed for a mac as all the mac 9200s have 128mb? Also, are you saying that you cannot add more memory to a card then what can be changed or flashed in bios?
Would it theoretically be possible to upgrade a D300 2GB from the MacPro to 4GB? Supposedly the firePro W7000 is essentially the same GPU, but comes with 4GB. As you said in this video, even if you upgrade the ram the firmware may still only see the original ram size.

When you flashing with modded firmware, there is only one beauty defect, you did not overwrite the memory type because still it shows SAMSUNG, whereas you reball with MICRON chips🤫It can be seen that you understand it, but you are "inconsistent" even though this "error" does not affect the operation of the card.😉

Hey there - I have the same pre-heating board and on mine I noticed that the actual board temperature is -100 degrees compared to what the machine says (because the thermocouple is close to the heating plates). So to have the board at 150 degrees I set the machine at around 250 degrees. My question for you is: when you say you set the temperature to 150 degrees, do you mean the board or the machine? I did it in the less complicated way. My uncle had the 1GB GT640. I have simply sold it for 40$ and bought Quadro K620 2GB for 40 bucks :D

You could compare the data sheet of MT41J128M16JT-107G (gDDR3) and for example data sheet of K4J55323QF-GC20 (GDDR3) and you will see the difference
This is a very good argument for why GPU memory should be modular. Old capable cards could still be useful today with a small memory upgrade.

The ROM I flashed was for one with Samung chips. It doesn't make any difference other than simply saying "Samsung" as the manufacturer.
