    Tom Hanks is truly a master at delivering emotion, and making the audience feel the same emotions and investment in the character. The last 5 minutes of Captain Phillips convinced me.

      He's well suited for those sorts of characters including playing the lead in "Sulley" which came out quite recently.

    • @claumeister1

      @@markdaly2406 Absolutely, the way he completely falls apart emotionally in the sick bay, just at the point in the film where's he's actually OUT of danger for the 1st time, that was so real it really moved me. I've never seen that from Hanks, and I thought it was totally realistic as well - he's a ship's captain, he's trained to hold it together when he and his crew are in danger; it's when the danger ends that he lets it all go, and there's so much to let it go of, it really overwhelms him even though the danger is past -- but your emotional brain doesn't think that logically. He can't hear the nurse saying "You're OK now", because it doesn't match what his emotional brain is telling him. To be able to "go there" emotionally when I bet Hanks has never been in a real-life situation like that, that really showed me something.

    I think it's important to remember what Zoe said about the actor not having much power in a film. Reminds us to be humble and appreciate what we have achieved as a title holder and not rely on fame alone

      Dear Ella Yes, she's spot on with the comment on how significant the editing is. When I was so convinced I did a terrible job in a student film a few years back, I was aghast at how well the editing made it, almost like a magic trick.

    This is a really cool glimpse to the real souls of these megastars. Normally when we see them it's either in a role, or talking about a role, or just doing light chit-chat on some morning show. Rarely do you see them being both serious, and themselves.

    I'm such a dweeb but I almost teared up watching this because these people are expressing into words how i feel about acting and they are pretty much explaining the reason why I love it so much because it's not about making the voices, memorizing the lines, the way you say a certain word, it's so much more than that and I love it.

    I feel that same way that Leonardo DiCaprio felt when he was 14 or 15, I’ve been watching classic and old movies since I was little, and I was always saying to myself, “I want to do that, I want to be that”, and it always had this effect on me where I normally act like I’m in a movie and when I act in front of a camera and mirror, I show these emotions that I never felt before. I’ve always had this dream of becoming an actress, but I never really got my foot in the door yet because I don’t think any casting director or agent would want some girl with no acting experience or credits.

    I recently was in the play Love Letters. As a writer, director and producer, hats off to all actors. You are not acting, you are pulling into your real emotions. Just from the rehearsals for the play, my entire body was shaking from having to access and experience the emotions I was presenting. I want to thank all of you for giving so much to people, so much more than the average person can understand. Thank you for the joy and connecting to your audience. I love all of you so much! Kristin Scott Thomas
    hit the nail on the head...
    about the Theatre... I have always
    believed if you could do Stage work...
    then being in front of the camera will be
    easier... instead of an actor of film, then
    going to stage...
    It is like when I used to ride horses... I rode
    English (jumping etc) then when I went to Western
    riding (Barrels, pole bending etc) it was easier...
    ... but was was really hard was when I was a jockey and
    road race horses... I was glad I had ridden English...
    In other words, as an actor and a Acting Director, do not
    "Pigeon hole" yourself... Learn everything about all aspects
    of Stage and Film... especially Improv.

    I'd like to see interviews about actors' views about white-washing. ie: Scarlet Johanson in Ghost in the Shell as a Japanese anime. Please. I feel like Asians are close to invisible in this industry.
    Not only are there small amount of GOOD roles (not the lady in the back selling noodles), but those GOOD roles are taken by people of other race!!

    • @SX1995able
      @SX1995able 8 лет назад +4

      I find it ironic that here in the west everyone is so upset by a white person playing an asian cartoon character, but in Japan, no one finds it offensive and some even say she was a good choice.

    • @megpy95
      @megpy95 8 лет назад +2

      SX1995able I think it's because in the West, the society is VERY diverse, and it has a lot of hard working ethnic actors.... So people get upset when that isn't acknowledged and 'society' disregards people of colour.... Over in Japan, maybe it's the case too, but not as diverse as the west.....

    • @JaesadaSrisuk
      @JaesadaSrisuk 7 лет назад +3

      megpy95 As a Thai person, I've known that Asians are highly-underrepresented in the industry for a long time. But with the "Ghost in the Shell" adaptation with Scarlett Johansson, I wonder if it's because the studio was afraid to green light it without a major star in the leading role. Because there are no major female Japanese or even any major AAA-level female Asian star working, they just went with a white actress. So basically, major movies won't cast unknown Asian actors, so those hardworking people can't gain the exposure and experience needed to be cast in marquee films.

      Get some professional training whether it be independent acting classes or a college course. Always be training. Find monologues, memorize, practice, and then perform in front of family or friends. To get some acting experience under your belt either sign up with a theater group or look for student films being advertised looking for actors, etc. Must get head shots done.

    I see a lot of comments about the lack of people of color. For perspective, the black population of the United States is about 12%. That is about 1 in 8. Do you think that half of the actors should be black in the interview? One black actress out of 19 people is a bit below that average. If there had been 3 black actors that would have been above the average. What is the problem?
    If they had Denzel, Lupita Nyongo, Sam Jackson, Morgan Freeman, Salma Hyek, Viola Davis, Irrfan Khan, Michelle Yeoh, and Graham Greene instead of some of the white actors, nobody would be saying "Hey, why are white people so underrepresented"? Nobody. Least of all white people. It wouldn't even come up.
    Not onlly that, why are people always divided into white and people of color? There are many variations of "color". Why do all non white people get lumped together? Are they not allowed to be separate and distinct?
    You know, I take back something I said above. If the video had a majority of people of color and only a few white actors there WOULD be some white people upset. Neo Nazis and Klan members. That is who would be upset. Normal white people wouldn't be upset. It is likely that people in the comment section here who comment on the lack of representation are racist bigots themselves.
    We should be listening to what the actors say. Not focusing on their skin color. I'm white and I couldn't care less if there wasn't a single white actor in the video. I care if they have something interesting to say. I don't need them to share my skin color in order to identify with them. I can identify with human beings, regardless of skin color, because they are human beings.
    End of rant.

      F&F made money because of the action and fx, not the acting. This is a collection of actors talking about their craft and is pulled together from segments filmed when they were being interviewed about films they were in. I love Vin Diesel and would love to meet him, but even as someone who dabbles in acting, I don't think talking to him about how he approaches a role will be top of my list of things to ask him.

    • @shuntae1990
      @shuntae1990 9 лет назад +2

      Sal sam I do agree we need more people of color but most of them don't take challenging roles which is why they stay missing out on opportunities like this. Yes there are a few who take on more serious roles but its the same few in every single movie (Will Smith and Samuel L. Jackson for example). A blue eye white male actor died, that is why F7 did so well, for the most part. Let's not forget how people pretend to care for entertainers after they die. If I become an actress (hypothetically speaking) I swear I wouldn't take typical black roles. I'm not saying none whites don't miss opportunities because of their color its just not the case most of the time. I do find it odd how some films can have hundreds of people in it but only a few blacks, now that calls for questioning.

      Fast and furious made money because average audiences like that kind of bullshit. Since when money means quality? Also every film nowadays boring? Bitch you need to watch more cinema great cinema not just hollywood movies. Should they have all black actors so you could say they are being diverse? Also a film's quality is made because of the filmmaking not because of the race of the actors. The fact that you said Fast and furious as an example and you called every film "boring"(which is bullshit) makes me realize that you are one of those people that find everything that isn't explosions and chase sequences "boring" I'm sure you call every film of contemplative cinema "boring" fuck you!

      There are so many african american actors out there and to a certain degree i agree about "misrepresentation" but the fact that only one was here doesn't say much really.
