I've made this without all the extra sugar and one stick of butter.. It came out very good. I think the cake mix and sweet potatoes are sweet enough without the added sugar. Fyi....
I just made my classic pineapple and cherry dump cake. I decided to add blueberries this time. I can't wait to taste it tomorrow. I'm taking it to lunch at a friends. That's my excuse for making it. I made this yesterday and it was very good!! The only thing I would do different is use unsalted butter next time. Some areas on the top were a little salty.

Hello glad you had the chance to make it... but if your cake came out the box too sweet there's nothing you can do about it that's the way Betty Crocker made it...lol and that's basically all I do but it's not too sweet for me, maybe next time use a no sugar added cake mix that may work better for you.. thanks

I LOVE SWEET POTATO PIE! (Or dump cake in this case! 😉). I don’t like to waste anything including the water the potatoes boil in. After I remove the potatoes I simmer the water until it reduces to 1/3 of what I started with. I dump the sugar into the water and boil it a few minutes to make a sweet potato flavored syrup. I put THAT into the potatoes with the butter and seasonings! And for me, don’t scrimp on the nutmeg! LOL
