I think in trying the undated common planner, I’ve also found my planner peace and will be ordering the 2024 version for next year. 😊 it’s just enough structure and unstructure, and the perfect size to carry with me. I’ve also learned that the Passion Planner sticker books have the perfect size stickers for the weekly vertical in the a5.
That is great to know! Thank you so much for sharing and watching :)
This video is awesome! I was really in a crisis for the preorder of Sterling Ink so I really appreciated your idea ❤ Thank you very much 🥰
I'm glad I could help!! 💝
Great comparison video. 😊 I’m ordering the B6 Common Planner for 2024. I tried it for 2023 but gave up on it in March and went to my tried and true FCC rings. I’ve been watching your videos and others and I’m feeling more and more inspired and getting more ideas for layouts, etc I am feeling like it will be my workhorse for 2024.
You got this! I know seeing what others use in different sections always helped me so I'm glad that I can be some inspiration too 🥰 2024 is going to be an exciting year!
I have been loving your channel. I am so glad I found it. I actually went with the common planner A5 and Weeks size (personal and work). I love my HoCo but am really drawn to the simplicity of the CP. If I find it doesn't work then I will just go back to the Hobonichi. However, I think I will really like it. Thanks for sharing all the things you do on your channel. You do a great job.
Thank you so much!! This was such a nice comment 🥰 I have the same feelings about the CP, but based on how I have loved it in only 2 months, I am pretty sure the cousin will be on the back burner for a while. And I am excited to see the other layouts Sterling Ink has! I am truly impressed with how many she came out with.
Love my cousin but like you, I need a change. I ordered a Common Planner to replace my Cousin but will also get a Weeks from Hobonichi.
I'm excited to see the covers for the Hobonichi Weeks! I think that will be a big deciding factor for those that like the Sterling Ink Weeks layout. The hard bound covers are one of my favorites :)
I have a Hobinichi Weeks planner at the moment and loving it - I know it wasn't the point of the video but it was good to get this overview to help me decide if I want a Cousin in the September drop (or stick with a Weeks)... thanks for sharing!
I love the size of the weeks! It is super portable. Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for the video!!! Today's the last day for preorders for CP. I'm undecided, as I love Hobonichi Cousin. Earlier this year I went to Happy Planner and then when the Avec's came out I grabbed one for the remaining year of 2023 as I missed Hobo SO much. I was drawn to the blank pages in the back of the CP, but then I'd have to create an index and I'm worried about keeping up with that. At least Hobo has the annual year which I use as the index. I just don't know! I wonder if we can buy the CP later this year, as I really want to see what Hobo releases. I'm in love with their Cousin covers. I have the Cat from Kanda and am just so in love with it. thanks again!
I completely understand your dilemma! I feel the same way about the CP daily pages being indexed, and if you have goals to write every day the Hobonichi is structured more towards that. I will say that if you wait for her "Ready to Ship" launch, the planners will go very quickly. This year with the 2023 B6 they were sold out in minutes.... If you are able to, I would preorder the CP you're looking for and then when Hobonichi drops their release in a couple months, and you like the Hobonichi options better, you can sell the CP! In the FB group a lot of people have asked for those selling their 2023 versions so I'm sure the demand will be similar for the 2024.
Also, I feel like I should mention that the CP fits in the A5 covers I have from Galen Leather, Moterm, and Hobonichi. So if you like the CP planner, but you want a Hobonichi cover, you can likely have the best of both worlds! Best of luck in the decision making!
Thanks for the side by side comparison! I have the CP B6 going as an art journal this year and love it. I will be reusing it next year as well. Maybe. I will definitely be purchasing the CP weeks size.. I have used the hobo weeks in the past and hated all the quotes and colorized highlights, but mostly I could not look at that yellow paper every day! Ugh. I am so pleased with the changes that Catherine is making. I will also be purchasing a little passport size as my "in the Garden" note keeping and can't wait to get that. It will be super useful. Now to decide the on the covers! How do we pick? They are all so beautiful. Thanks again for the information. I will be going back to check out your past videos.
Thank you so much!! I know the little passport size is so cute and great for on the go! As for covers I am in the same boat. They are all so beautiful!! I went with the Caramel with gold for the A5 that I preordered but the green and the blue were calling me too.
I ordered the B6 with gold and a caramel cover. I couldn't wait until they came so I also ordered a B6 undated so I can use it for the rest of the year. It will be my first Common Planner.
Im so excited for you!!! I got the gold and Caramel as well. It is going to be STUNNING I already know it. Have fun with the undated! I have been enjoying changing the way I write all the dates haha
I absolutely love my hobonichi cousin. I love the colors, quotes and pages in the back, but I hate when I get behind!!! The blank dated weeks & dailies is hard to ignore. I'm really conflicted. 😢
I feel your pain. I don't mind the colors since I add a lot of color to my planners anyway, but the blank dailies have been wonderful so far in the Common Planner. If i miss a day i dont feel stress or pressure to go back and fill it in. If hobonichi had blank pages in the back I think they would open to a whole new market of people.
If you like to stick a lot of things in your Cousin, I've seen some really cool spreads of people who collage over a page or even do watercolor or drawings. I hope you can make a decision!!
@@mydandeliondiaries I have to check it out. Thanks
I've been a bullet journaller (BuJo) for years but at the start of this year I got FOMO about the Hobo Cousin hype so I got one for me (and one for my partner) but then I didn't like it and regret it (and the massive price!) and went back to BuJo and used the Hobo for art, as I had to use it for something to justify the hefty price. But then in late March I ditched my bujo and decided to use the Hobo as my everyday planner as I felt it had potential. I felt bad for the cost of it and not using to its fullest. Now I love it, and have ways to work around the things I hate about it, and I do get so much use out of it; dream journal, daily gratitudes, daily thoughts and all purpose planner. But I hate the intrusive colours, useless info paged at the back and the highlighted weekends, so when I found out the S.Ink Common Planner, I fell in love as it has removed everything wrong with the Hobo Cousin. I cannot wait for my pre-order to arrive!! I will keep using my Hobo for the rest of 2023 but will never buy one again as long as the Common Planner exists.
That's amazing! The Sterling Ink Common Planner hit the mark with being a "stripped" version of a Hobonichi Cousin. I am so glad that so many people love the book as much as I do and are switching. For me it was a hard choice though, I have been in the Hobonichi for a few years and really feel the connection to the planner but the CP just has everything I want with none of the extra fluff. I'm glad it sounds like you may have found planner peace ❤️️
When the video got down to 15 mins and you still hadn’t shared the verdict of which you were going with I was getting worried and almost started writing my comment asking haha but yay! Happy to hear you’re going with CP and we have not only this yr but a full 2024 of CP content on your channel and IG! 🥳 I know I’m for sure in CP next year but still very torn on upping to A5 or sticking to B6 so I’ll probably wait until the very end to buy myself more time.
But question, what about your side planners like your garden and wellness? Keeping with hobo weeks or switching to cp weeks size or aiming for all in one book next year?
Hahah yes I kept you hanging! After much consideration and the freedom it allows and then Catherine revealed the colors for the covers I was sold. I have always been an A5 girl but my planner doesn't really leave the house unless I take it to a coffee shop or to the park for fun journaling. If I had to carry it for work or school I would probably pick B6 just because it is lighter.
For the remaining line up you'll have to wait 😉 I will say I will have more than one planner though 😁
I'm still trying to decide. I saw your comment about the paper, which makes me lean more towards the cousin again. I really love the hobo paper, I would hate to change it!
I love the Hobo paper a lot, but it currently is the old TRP so the new TRP that the CP uses is likely what the new Hobonichi planners are going to act like. I lost my sample of the paper that Hobonichi sent with this years planners so I wasn't able to compare, but I'm sure it is going to be very similar since they are the same brand of paper.
@@mydandeliondiaries oh you're right!! I didn't think about that. Very good news if so, I really like the CP planner layout vs the hobonichi!
Thanks for sharing this! Really helped! I'm still torn as I have not tried Cousin yet, just the HB Weeks, but like the minimal design of the CP.
You're welcome! I'm glad I could help 😊 I love the simple design and the freedom that the back pages offer in the weeks or the A5 size that she offers!
I’ve pre-ordered the N1 compact vertical and passport compact vertical but after reviewing the trackers and such I want to add on the blank pages I’m starting to think I want a full year now too… oh the dilemma!
I feel your dilemma!! I was in the same boat. But the compact is easier to carry around and you can always add in a supplemental notebook if you run out of pages!
I wanted to try the HC for 2025. But, tbh, i don't like all the colors in it. Like monthly, and weekends, etc. I want my own colors in my planner😁. The thing is I've been buying HC weekly and monthly kits to use next year😅... Do the HC kits from EMAS, TCMC, etc... fit the common planner?
The kits from TCMC do! I haven't tried kits from EMAS so I can't really speak to them. I find that any kits with a 1.3" columns work great in the A5 Common Planners and the Hobonichi Cousin alike.
I know this is not the main topic, but how would Hobonichi's cover fit on the Sterlingink's Weeks? I am looking into getting one for 2024 and feeling hesitant about their clear cover due to binding stress.
GREAT Question. So I have used the standard Midori A5 clear cover on the HoCo but it does not fit the common planner as it is too narrow. However, the Midori A5 1 Page 1 Day clear cover is very roomy on the common planner and the cousin. For the hobonichi cousin I went with the 1 Page 1 Day clear cover since my Cousin always gets chunky, and I can say that the book itself has filled out the clear cover over time. I plan on using the 1 Page 1 Day clear cover for the A5 2024 common planner vs the one that sterling ink offers only because I want to be able to have a chunky book and not worry about damaging the cover too much. Plus you can print stuff out or use vellums with the clear cover :)
As for the weeks clear cover, the hobonichi's version won't fit the full year version of the CP since it is so thick. I don't have a 1/2 weeks notebook to compare it too but it is more pages than the original hobonichi weeks.
I would imagine if you went with a Compact weeks and got the 520pg clear cover you would be fine and have some room to grow in. And I'm sure the other companies that make the clear covers like Lauren Phelps Designs, or Salty Katie will be coming out with covers too!
Sorry for so many replies, I wanted to include the Cousin and the Weeks for anyone reading through the comments :)
@@mydandeliondiaries Thank you so much for your detailed response! 🌟 I want the freedom of stuffing my books and have never had to think about binding integrity with Hobonichi. Honestly, it's the grid on both pages on Sterling's that's the selling point for me haha! I'll need to have another think about it all.
I agree 100% I love grid since it help's me write straight ha. And there is no quotes so more room to play on the page! Good luck with your decision making!!
Still giving myself more time to decide 🤔
Is SICP's TRP as crinkly and as "see-through" as Hobonichi's? The 1st reason why I'm hesitant to buy is the price (just an arm and a leg, maybe) & the 2nd is the 52gsm TRP. I enjoyed the Take-A-Note's 68gsm TRP (I tried the A6) & loved the overall zen feel of the planner but the layout & size options for the SICP is making it hard for me 😆& there's Nolty and Midori, too...jeezz
Thank you for this much needed comparison video!
The paper is slightly different than the Hobonichi. The common planner has a more "toothy" feel to it when writing in my opinion and it does not feel as thin as the HoCo TRP even though they are supposedly the same gsm. Both give the crinkle noises and have minor shadowing. With the darker reddish, pinkish, orange inks I have experienced some very minor bleed through but that is only with those inks.
"toothy" 🤔 do you mean it's less smooth or more "textured" than HoCo's TRP? But basically the same thickness (or thinness, rather)? Interesting!
@@lizasaguin I would say it is the same thinness but the paper has a slightly different texture. It is a minimal difference though.
I have been searching everywhere for that glittery washi tape you have on the cover of your journal. Where can I find this type washi tape?
I honestly got it a Michaels Craft store years ago. It came in a pack of 20. I don't know if they still make it :(
Thanks!
@@mydandeliondiariesYes!! They do, and they actually have some REALLY NICE washi tape and super cheap!! I have a Michael’s not far from me, too!! Thanks! I’m going there.
What cover did you have on the common planner?
It is a Leather Slim A5 Notebook cover from Galen Leather in the Undyed leather. They have several other colors too but they only restock them periodically. You can email them though to see when they get new stock! (They also have other sizes too not just A5 😉)
@@mydandeliondiaries thanks! I love that simplicity but it probably wouldn't fit the full year, I'm guessing?
@@miraclebub I actually have the full year undated and it fits wonderfully! If you don't "chunk" your planners out it will work perfectly!
Thanks for sharing❤
Thank you for watching!! I'm excited to see what everyone goes with next year. I think it is amazing the selection that Sterling Ink is offering.
There's a Chinese version???? 😳
Yes, haha. I'm not sure if 2023 was the first year they were released, but there is a Chinese version. I believe the writing is the only thing they are different.
Thank you for the video! I'm thinking of getting the common planner. Do you know if the CoffeeMonsterzCo stickers fit in the monthly and weekly sections of the Common Planner?
In the A5 I have not had to create any sticker surgery to fit the kits in the weeklies. I haven't tried the monthly kits yet but they are meant for both so I would assume they fit too. :)
