One of my favorite petty movie star stories of all time comes from this film! Steve McQueen & Paul Newman famously did not get along and when it came to who got top billing on the poster Newman demanded he be listed above everyone else. McQueen shrewdly let Newmans name go above everything dead center while he asked to have his name on the far left centimeters below Newmans. In doing so he subsequently ensured that whenever you looked at the poster Steve McQueen would be the first name read going from left to right in English! Thats old school Hollywood petty baby! Lol

I am in complete awe about the number of times I've been curious about a reasonably-well-known-movie-from-the-past-that-no-one-really-talks-about-today, and I typed in the movie title into RUclips and Welcome to the Basement was the only legitimate review posted onto RUclips. Bravo.

Fox originally wanted to make Die Hard in 1980 with Frank Sinatra in the lead role,[*] and whenever I try to imagine what that would've been like, I end up picturing a cross between the finished film and The Towering Inferno.
[*] It sounds weird, but Die Hard was based upon a novel in which the hero was an "I'm getting too old for this crap" cop. That book was itself a sequel to a 1960s novel called The Detective, which was adapted into a movie with Sinatra in the lead role.

'12 Angry Men" is good story telling until you realize Fonda's character caused a mistrial by bringing in outside evidence into the jury room. He would have to bring it to the attention to either of the lawyers and not act on his own. There are some other legalistic shenanigans that wouldn't be allowed either, one being the timing of the man getting to the door. Least if I remember correctly, it was.

Matt noted that it was interesting to see Richard Chamberlain as a villain.
My first exposure to him was the 90's TV adaptation of 'The Night of the Hunter'. Not a great remake, but I thought Chamberlain gave a pretty sinister performance as Harry Powell.
Was also glad that it wasn't just a copy of Robert Mitchum's Powell from the '55 film.

It's really kinda funny how Irwin Allen pretty much said "Hey, Poseiden Adventure was a hit. Let's do the same thing, only with fire instead of water." And the formula produced the same results: Each film was the second-highest grossing film of it's year (Poseiden came in second to The Godfather, Inferno second to Blazing Saddles), and each featured an Al Kasha/Joel Hirschhorn song, performed on screen, sung by Maureen McGovern, which went on to win Best Song at the Oscars (Carol Lynley lipsynched in Poseiden, McGovern appeared herself in Inferno). Inferno, however, topped Poseiden in that it grossed more ($116m vs $93m), and Inferno was somehow nominated for Best Picture (alongside the winner Godfather II, and Chinatown, The Conversation, and Lenny).

The relative ranking of Godfather 1 and 2 and reasons why might be an interesting thing for someone to research. My impression was that 2 was more highly regarded in the 80s, but not so much now. (Obviously both are and were incredibly well regarded, just talking about relatively)
