A very sad history... its fair to say they where victims of the Cold War. Thanks for sharing, from a Braziliam who has big respect for the Saab airplanes.
As a Commercial Pilot, it is imperative to remain on the controls of your aircraft as long as it is still flyable, whilst doing everything you can to recognise and if possible isolate the problem and if at all possible ensure the aircraft doesn't crash into a populated area.
300 dollars ,for a whole family took out by military crap thats supposed be protecting the public not killing them ,accidents happen but this is tragic ,sad and unacceptable ,the government should be held accountable
When you play the wrong UNO card... I know of at least 2 incidences where military pilots stayed in the cockpit to steer away from build-up areas, both pilots died to protect the people below. One incident was in the UK, the other in South Africa. The South African pilot wanted to eject, but his aircraft, an Impala, was facing a school, so he guided his aircraft away. In the Vikbo Incident, there were no buildings around, just forest... how unlucky.
$300 even in 1960 wouldn't even have paid for their funerals... how shameful and dehumanizing. I wonder what kind of twisted person thought that was right.

The engine stalled for a non-fuel issue just as the fuel gauge failed? Maybe there should have been something that pushes the stick forward after the pilot ejects.

Fascinating🇬🇧 very sad also. Sweden is a brave nation I admire particularly for its armed neutrality. Now you are in NATO, you and your armed forces are very welcome. 🇬🇧🇺🇦

Hej MegaGronis, är det eventuellt en film du skulle vilja dela med dig av?
This is an example of inconceivable bad luck. There was a similar, albeit not a flying tragedy, here in Melbourne a couple of years ago where IIRC, three police cars had pulled over a Porsche on a freeway and a truck driven by a either drugged up or mentally affected driver just plowed into the police. Think 3 or 4 were killed. I mean what are the chances of that happening? Sometimes these un fathomable events just happen. There’s simply no logical explanation. In the Swedish crash, had the jet just flown a few hundred metres, been a little higher or been just 5 or 10 degrees of that course it would of missed the building. No words.
Wonder if instead of hurrying to eject Pilot should care what goes on with plane, like aiming safe spot. Even those days $300 dollars is cheap, not Switzerland but still.
Det är den värsta flygkraschen med civila dödsoffer på marken i Sverige. (Ulf Eneroth, författaren av Haveriet - flygvapnet och kalla krigets offer, Albert Bonniers förlag, 2015)
Ladies and gentlemen. This is a polite notice to help you remember that there is no such word as aircrafts. The plural for more than 1 aircraft is…aircraft. That’s all and good evening.
Svenska undertexter finns att slå på.

Thank you from Sweden.
300 dollars.... what a kick in the teeth.
Honestly that amount is so low it's just adding insult to injury.
300 USD ??? 😯
Adjusted for inflation it would’ve been around 3000$ which is better but still way to little
Excellent story-telling and graphics!
A brilliant production, man!

Indeed, way to in hurry to wash his hands with it. 9 miles is much.
At that time Sweden build more and more airplanes . J29 , A32 J35 AJ 37 SK 60 We build ca 1500 airplanes . And JAS 39 Gripen later on.
SAAB 105 ,SK 60, is one of the most good looking Airplanes i have ever seen.
A forest is not a populated area.

Lansen was not crap. Swedish Air Force had ca 500 of this beautiful Aircrafts.
Fantastic analysis! Thank you for this presentation

In France also, with mirage 2000C To avoid crash in Middle of small village. Pilot diverted low level tocrash in à field
Pour l'honneur des cocardes...
The pilot did not know it was going to fly for another 9 miles before crashing since he taught it had an engine failure.

$300 in 1960 is SEK 43.000 in 2024…
the funerals was paid by the military. They also got a military funeral
@@theswe001still. 300$ is a joke
Hade ingen aning om den här händelsen 😮
Great channel, nice voiceovers.
God Please rest the souls of these victims and comfort the victim’s families and friends.
This is such a terrible tragedy.
And this is why you never, ever skip maintenance. It will always bite you right in the backside at the worst possible time. *sighs dejectedly*
This reminds me of the crash of the Soviet MiG-23 in Belgium…
that killed the 15 year old?
@@theswe001 was there another mig-23 crashing in Belgium?
Tragiskt.
De flög HÅRT förr. Inget tjafs om ”Lägsta höjd” å sånt…

Sounds like his center tank ran dry and he didn’t (or perhaps couldn’t absent those parts) transfer from the wing tanks.
Read somewhere the pilot said, after finding out what the aircraft did after he ejected, he wished he had stayed on the aircraft all the way down, keeping it away from people.
Of course.
If only he thought about that before ejecting over a mile high with his plane trimmed for flight.
I don't think he is to blame, @@Mike.The.Jeweler, since no one would have expected the plane to crash just into an isolated farm house.
ABSOLUTELY, please read my comment, on this page above thanks!
Pretty much goes without saying doesn't it? I wasn't expecting him to be proud of, and happy about, it

Wow! Dude's supposed to stay at the stick as long as possible, bailed way too early.
They were trained by the Americans unfortunately
They were not trained by any foreign military.
That's not true.
As far as i know no other countries trained our Air Force.
Final Destination got nothing on this.
Mongrel Swedish government and Air force then wouldn't pay. Shame on Sweden

My swedish grandfather was killed trying to check corn too fast on the prairie with my 8 year old mom.
Oh, I thought it was going to say the fuel tanks were really empty in preparation for installing the new parts and equipment.
In that big field, it hit the house. It was fate that zerod on just the farmhouse. Rip. 🌹

@FascinatingHorror You have to do an episode about this accident! I know you like airplane accidents.
dontcha love it the 'right stuff' type expect ORDINARY CITIZENS TO SHARE THE MENTALITY

Fairly similar of the Cornfield Bomber in the US
No follow-up, few details.
