35 years professional fence builder here.........This gives moderate privacy but you can buy tennis court screening that gives better privacy. It is a lot faster to install, too. The main drawback is that in areas with high winds screening doesn't let the wind blow through the fence as well as slats and can blow a fence over if the line posts aren't heavy enough.
Totally agree. I just commented, if people choose this slat type, go with a white or beige color as these colors reflect more light and are much harder to see through at a distance.
We just installed about 240 feet of chain link with winged slats. About 90% privacy. Just slide them in the chain link and go. No bottom track to deal with. So far, I haven't seen the neighbor through the fence, and my dogs have not barked in his direction at him, his kids or dog.
If you’re looking for better ‘privacy’ (this type slats isn’t really private), go with a light color. Black absorbs light where light colors, white or beige reflect light. Meaning, a light slat is much harder to see through from a distance as it reflects light back to the eye.
I was thinking he should have the part facing into the yard in black and the part facing out would be better chromed...or at least aluminum. Easier to see out, not so easy to see in.
@ Not a bad idea for a product. I’m not sure that exists. I might shy away from chrome due to reflected heat but, dark inside, light outside is a good idea.
@@liquidsmokemustang1537 I saw a video in which the owner got some black paint and just did the inside of her fence with it. It takes a little bit of effort, but it can be done.
@@griswald7156 I had not thought of that, and you're right. I was thinking more about blocking the looky-loos from the public sidewalk. I've never had a bad experience with any of my neighbors, and we don't need to spy on one another.
I wouldn't call this a hack. It's a legit modification that's been around for decades. I actually installed similar slats on my fence because I wanted to prevent porch pirates. It's not 100%, but it does make it hard to see through from the street. I often try to look for packages as I drive past my own gate, and it's actually hard to see through. Another "hack" to improve on this to put something else behind the slats. Maybe shade cloth or fake ivy curtains. The slats will make the shade cloth or curtains less obvious and can work together to look fine from the outside while providing very good privacy
I think sometimes people want total privacy, but if you live in a city it’s really impossible, enjoy the privacy that you can get. And remember people don’t have the time to be always spying on you, even if they have windows looking down on your yard.
Many years ago there were diagonal slats that were thicker and seemed a touch more private than these? Is there any real difference between that style and this?
I bought a house with chain link fencing my entire back yard. This is old chain link. Not pretty. The original homeowners used aluminum slats to privatize most of the yard. I’m grateful for those but the aluminum slats were discontinued. The plastic is extremely expensive & will degrade pretty quickly, I’m guessing. I have seen a DIY that took aluminum flashing, cut in half, and threaded through diagonally without a bottom piece.
There’s only one person in my entire neighborhood that has chain-link and they put these in their fence but they chose white ones and they look absolutely disgustingly hideous I’m happy this person chose the black ones
I definitely would do this to aggravate neighbors. Maybe if neighbors would be more neighborly and minded their business we wouldn’t have this much animosity. Hence you making a comment about your neighbor publicly.
This is not a hack, these pieces are made specifically for this. Not to mention it is not DIY, you work for a fencing company. You said it was for your customer. There are companies who sell a fabric that let's the wind pass, but still is a privacy for you. I wonder if the sunshade material would work, it should let air pass through but block prying eyes.
How much privacy do you get from privacy slats..... Not much. Typically if say maybe 60% coverage; you can tell quite easily what's on the other side. However it can up the visual appeal of the fence if you get a good color. That black looks nice. Also consider mixing colors. One warning for people with old fences. It's difficult to install in bent fences. You can do 30 or more feet per hour on good fence. But if it's bowed out from dogs jumping on it... Hope for 5 feet and be ready for less.
Definitely agreed.Because at some point, the homeowner is going to get tired of looking at that and want to throw them all the way and buy an actual rail fence...

The tennis court netting wears out faster and blowes in the wind. We have at work and they are replacing repairing them every 6 months.
6/7 ft high wooden fences really give privacy
I think “privacy” is at best an overstatement. That’s only SLIGHTLY more private .

With chrome on the outside and black on the inside it’s much easier to spy on your neighbours …without causing a fence…

One of the best speakers I have ever heard. Articulate, clear and concise. Makes it so easy to understand the instructions.

What a straight to the point excellent demonstration thank you good sir!
That’s cool and really well explained but I think I’d also add fabric or something because you can still see through.
Nice job! Explained very clearly. 👍
Its brilliant, what a good idea. A few shrubs and no oone will see through that unless they make an effort. Thank you.
Sheet Metal on My side of the Chainlink Fence worked just fine for Me.
I use black shadecloth for TOTAL privacy!
I hate to break this to you but I can still see through...
A much better option than others. Thanks

Great demo video.
Looks good as long as it doesn't melt or bend in the heat.
My idea of privacy differs. It apparently makes chain link less cheesy but it's still chain link.
Thanks mister !

What will be better would be to go to home depot, get some of those pre built fences and attach it to the chain ling fence
There’s only one person in my entire neighborhood that has chain-link and they put these in their fence but they chose white ones and they look absolutely disgustingly hideous I’m happy this person chose the black ones

See a therapist.
Good job, good idea😊
Last time I checked this is very old school. People have been doing this probably since the sixties, and i'm in my thirties, and I know that😅😅😅
It looks much better than just the chain link which is ugly.

This is a DIY level project was the point, anyone can do it. Shade cloth certainly blocks more, but it catches quite a bit more wind.
Something that is actually manufactured to do a specific job is NOT a hack...
see through fence??
You should have put up a white vinyl fence that you can’t see through. There’s no privacy if someone can look through it.

Great, MORE plastic, more future microplastics into the environment.🙄

What side of the fence are you standing on?
They were installing from the inside of the fence.
No privacy from that.
Its not my fence!
That's not private.
That screechy sound in your intro is ear splitting. Really awful🤕
That is not a hack; that is going to the store, purchasing a product, then installing it for it's intended purpose!
I’m not a fan of this. Not much privacy at all.
