Making a Shark Tooth Ring with Casting Resin

  • Today we answer the age-old question: "Can you make a ring out of shark teeth?"
Download War Robots NOW and get an awesome starter pack! bit.ly/2LF9Js1
Shark teeth turned out to be a fairly challenging material to work with. The differences in the hardness of the teeth and the resin made it difficult to get a good polish on the rings. I ordered a special polishing compound that will hopefully give me better results in the future. But, at least for now, these rings are a little rough around the edges (pun extremely intended and I'm sorry) to offer on my website as good enough to be a wedding ring.

Oh second comment ring suggestions: What do you think of a 'ring series' of the periodic table. I could see it posing some great challenges with creative ways to overcome them. Maybe in collaboration with someone like NileRed or Cody'slab. See how you'd approach something like a Gallium ring, (turns to liquid at body temperature so encased in resin?!) or a ring showing the beauty of Bismuth crystals. Well food for thought.

Your videos have been an inspiration to me. I bought a metal lathe several years ago (the same one you have) and began just fiddling around with it. Spent about a year honing my techniques and now work almost exclusively with Mokume Gane and Stirling Silver. Working with silver is a lot different. You can't just put a wamping big hunk of silver on the lathe and start turning it. They have to be assembled from sheets or wire and then braised together but it's still fun to sit down and make a cool ring with glow powder or crushed semi precious stones. I especially liked you "Shipwrecked" ring. I've made three of them already and can't seem to keep one for myself ! Thank you so much. God bless.

These are interesting rings. The video got me thinking about nut shells as a possible component. Years ago, as a boy, I took a fine hobby saw (xacto) and cut a cross section of a hazel nut to make a ring. It didn't hold up as it wasn't structurally sound. When I saw this video, I thought it might be an experiment to take broken up shells and cast them. Some might need some initial stabilization to hold up as a workable material, but it would be worth a shot.

Hey hey! Love your work. I have watched probably 80% of your vids. Just some advice as a viewers perspective I noticed in this vid you did not waste our time with repeating the same thing. I noticed in your previous videos you did that quite a bit. It makes the videos a lot easier to watch when you don't hear the same thing 3 times a video. But during the time lapse sequence maybe throw on some soft royalty free background music. Helps fill the awkward gap of silence. Only mean this as help/advice. Love your vids mate. Keep it up!

Maybe you could try making a ring out a megalodon tooth, a large enough tooth that you just need one. I dont know how that would look but it's an idea. Or to go along with your pendant idea, maybe cast the small sharks teeth into the shape/size of a megalodon tooth. To take it further, they appear to be mostly two tones, so you could use fossilized for the root and unfossilized for the crown or vice versa.
