This was originally written for Otis Redding who tragically died in a plane crash before he could record the song. One of The Bee Gees earliest US hits.
I remember my dad singing this song to my mom, and by the time I got to the end of the song we were all singing it… through my tears of joy. I thank you for my memory.❤😂🎉😢
I was in a reformatory when I was 16 - 17 here in Perth, Australia back in the mid 60's and they stripped us of everything, our freedom and our dignity etc. but it was music like this they couldn't take from us.
Thanks Angela for some early Bee Gees, their late 60s and early 70s albums had tons of great songs that spoke to rock and pop fans of the day. They were great songwriters and amazing singers right from the start. Please play more from that era, try How Can You Mend a Broken Heart, I've Got to Get a Message to You, Words and Massachusetts, all songs I know you would love. Thanks for brightening my day, pretty lady and Enjoy! 🎵
Thank you for the great memories down memory lane. The BEE GEES, are one the greatest trio groups of our time. Loved listening to the BEE GEES, in the day. Still have the old vinyl albums, LOL. We lost 2 of the brothers to soon, the late, MAURICE - ROBIN GIBB, there will never be a trio like the brothers GIBB. RIP - GUYS.
This is a combination of an upbeat song, and a sad one at the same time! My favorite early Bee Gees tune is How Can You Mend A Broken Heart! Bye for now!
Maurice is the one who sings the 'Aooowww you don't know... ' You have likely seen the actual video that was banned by now, so you know. One of my youngsta crush songs, though at 10 I had no particular girl in mind.
ALL THREE had great voices. My choice was Robin. As Maurice said, his was "the voice that could grab your heart" and Barry said "Nobody could sing like Robin"! I preferred Barry's lower register to the falsetto. Maurice had an amazing range and could fill in with the perfect third harmony.
Same! And around the same age- I got the Saturday Night Fever album for Christmas one year at around that age- MY very first album of my own- I was ecstatic- 🙂
Yeah Thanks, Angela, it is comforting to see a sweet young lady of the next Gen taking interest in the greats from the past. These people were master artists of the day, and to me are still heartwarming for future people to listen to.
These were the real BGs, before they figured theyd make more money by going "disco". Back then, they were a rock band, just like all the others from the "British Invasion", but they stood out from most by their amaxing harmonies and great lyrics. Listen to more of their music from that era. You'll love it .
Please put this one on your list: I STARTED A JOKE, which is one of the many early songs with Robin Gibb as lead singer. It is also from these early years and written primarily by Robin Gibb at age 17-18, although Barry has writing credits as well. One of my favorites, and I think you will really like it. Thanks Angela, you are fantastic as always!
Hi Angela. Thank you for the mention. I’m so glad you enjoyed this beautiful song. The BeeGees early hit songs are equally as gratifying as their later hits. They continued to evolve with the times, and we the fans are happy to ride along.
Loved this in 67, still do. Many covered it even Janis Joplin tho for me this was the best. Enjoyed many of their pre disco songs tho really none of their disco. Tho I liked a few disco songs by other artists. Actually the late 50s, entire 60s and 80s were my favorite times for music.
The Bee Gees were asked to write a song for Otis Redding and showed up the next day in the studio with the most amazing love song ever written, To Love Somebody.
Actually it was written by Barry in a NYC hotel room, when he was there with Robert Stigwood. Then after returning to the UK, he finished it with Robin.
@@msgtammo8929 Robin was not with them in NYC at the time. It was just Barry & Stigwood, who saw Otis play at the Apollo. Later when RS & Otis went out to dinner, RS told Barry to write Otis a song while they were gone. When they returned, Barry played for them To Love Somebody.
@kthor you are probably right. I'm just going by what Barry said in the documentary "The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" I'm sure he just doesn't remember it correctly.
You need to investigate back when Robin was the frontman for the Bee Gees and the middle time period where Robin did singles and Barry and Morris conned their sister into joining the group. All this was due to Barry's ascension into being the leader (aka frontman) of the group after he discovered his amassing falsetto range. Their Manager and Producer was Robert Stigwood and he began promoting Barry's talent over Robin's and Robin's feelings got hurt and quit the group for a number of years but all their music during the split suffered so Robin swallowed his pride and eventually rejoined his brothers.
Angela, I love your reactions and just heard a beautiful song and thought of you, I think you will love it. Judy Collins singing Send in the Clowns. Tears 😭
Great reaction, Angela. Please follow up on your own by catching the RUclips of the Bee Gees doing this live in Australia. Barry really belts out his lead vocals. I think the performace was just prior to their huge resurgence that came with the "Saturday Night Fever" movie.
Just found your RUclips channel and I think it's great. Love watching your reactions to emotional songs. Try WORDS by the Bee Gees.. probably there most emotional songs and gut wrenching
Another neat tune from the long time entertainers , the Bee Gees...a request . Maria Maldaur - Midnight at the oasis ..the live version ..a real cool period piece..thanks
Love your selection of Bee Gee song.. also if you play Immortality (with Celine Dion).. another oldie Children of the World.. they wrote many songs.. those you played were all hits.. thks! Martin
Fantastic song.. they wrote it for Otis Redding but he passed before he could record it so they recorded it.. my favorite Bee Gees song.. you alsolutely have to listen to the Keith Urban live version.. to die for... also do Journeys Mother Father live in Houston 1981 concert....l Iove your channel
I like you Day One you are a beautiful young woman and I respect your opinion on music, let me tell you that I am in my mid sixties and have had a great life, I have thirteen grandchildren and one great grandchild, I love all music but don't really like rap, thank you
Can't remember if you've done their song "Alone"? If you have, then, try, "For Whom The Bell Tolls". Love the Bee Gees and your reactions to their songs! Thanks!
Fun fact - To Love Somebody is one of Billy Joel’s favorite songs 😉. Check Barry out here ruclips.net/video/3TspkJx-DwA/видео.html. Dedicated to his wife
Angela You seem a very sweet young lady, I really enjoy your videos. I would like to suggest a few songs from time to time that is rarely seen here or heard, good songs that are pretty much forgotten. Try Bonnie Tyler- It's a heart ache
IMO, with one or two exceptions, most of their really good stuff was done 'pre-disco'. Fanny be Tender, Spicks and Specks, I Started a Joke, First of May being just a few examples.
I actually prefer Barry's voice like this more than the falsetto. His falsetto is fantastic and has its place but I think going all falsetto all the time was a mistake for them. That said, if you like higher voices you should listen to some Stylistics, especially "You are everything.".

Oh definitely one of my favourite songs of theirs and one of my all time favourite songs
Those of us who came of age in the 60s feel like we are honorary brothers of Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb.
Yay..you're getting into the 60's Bee Gees now...enjoy...
I read somewhere that they had written this beautiful song for Otis Redding. But he passed before he could record it. Its my favorite BeeGees song.

Barry said if there was one final song he could sing for his wife Linda, that this would be it🥰!
*"I Started A Joke__&__I've Gotta Get A Message To You" are two more great early songs.*
This is a combination of an upbeat song, and a sad one at the same time! My favorite early Bee Gees tune is How Can You Mend A Broken Heart! Bye for now!

You should’ve watched the black and white 1967 video of this song to see how gorgeous Barry was. Go watch it!
They are so talented. Such great music

Don't forget Andy, whose voice KINDA sounded like his older brothers voice combined into one
I slow danced to this many times, back in the day.
I was 7 when this was on the radio. Became an instant and lifelong fan.
Same! And around the same age- I got the Saturday Night Fever album for Christmas one year at around that age- MY very first album of my own- I was ecstatic- 🙂

Beautiful song. Loved their pre-disco stuff.
My cousin bought this album and was before they were big but this was one of my favorite songs on it.

Awesome talents. They were iconic in singing and writing music for themselves and many other artists.
I think you would like "Run to Me" as well. It's one of my favorite early Bee Gees songs.
Hi Angela. Thank you for the mention. I’m so glad you enjoyed this beautiful song. The BeeGees early hit songs are equally as gratifying as their later hits. They continued to evolve with the times, and we the fans are happy to ride along.
Thx! Always loved their pre-disco era!
They have so many hits you need to listen to
Another good song from that early album was Words.

Unrequited love-so powerful and painful. Tremendous song still gives me chills.

Another fantastic Bee Gees song from 1967 is "Holiday"" -- one of the group's best.
You are so beautiful
Bee Gees were great in the 1960s.
The video is cool..
