i don't know much about music outside what my sound design professors teached me (i am an animation major not a music major) but a thing they told me that sometimes when you feel you are banging your head to a wall it may help to clean the "clutter" like you keep what you really like but if you aren't sure of a sound or a part you trash that
Hear me out… instead of an alternate outro this can serve as intro music! You know the ones every channel had in 2016, complete with dubstep and spinning channel graphics.
One thing I do suggest is try to come up with the melody using the piano keyboard instead of drawing it in first, then record that melody and edit and match it with the tempo to fit the song by using the drawing tool. Thats what I normally do, because not only can I get more on beat but I can also play around with different cords and edit the melody to how i like. It also helps to have a basic draft of how you want the melody to sound so you can edit off that. There also have been many times where I've accidentally hit a different key but it ended up sounding good, so i chose to use that key in the melody. Also, here are all the very basic needs for a good beat. You don't really need anything more than this. 1. Kick 2. HiHats 3. Snare and/or clap (maybe stick to one or the other?) 4. bass (i prefer 808, but there are other types of bass that you can use) 5. Main melody 6. Backing melody (In some cases this is optional) For the verse, the melody should be different from the hook. Each verse should have a bridge at the beginning and/or end. Just some basic tips for better production. Very good, seeing that you don't usually produce music. Incredible job!
i imagine this song as some "homeless" badass teenagers in a room, coming from silent to a whole music about the city they live in and the things they do. Like, that piece by piece thing, i kinda imagine the gorillaz members starting to play randomly in a quiet room to start a light for any ideas, and then the others joining in. Quiet good when it's alone, in my opinion.

the "key change" is actually in key, it's just a different chord, and it works because the difference between Cmin and Abmaj7 is basically just the Ab (bass) but you know, the Cmin chord in the sample already has a lot of extensions, so a Cmin11 would be like an Abmaj13#11, which is a beeeaautiful chord if voiced right, but it's "dissonant" and didnt go together very well
I used to play this in music class and I’d make fire beats. My music teacher used to praise me and my friends for making the beats, so we would have a contest every day at school for the best beats. It was any version too.
