Your tutorials have reinspired me to play banjo. I used to only play chords but thanks to these I’m improvising licks and can hear a song and play try to play it etc. Thank you so much for these tutorials!!
Ahh hell yea!!!! My buddy Simon Tinkle would play this song on the Banjo and my other late, great buddy Benson (last name private) would sing the words! He sang different words everytime because of fear of copyright infringement xD My role in the little band (we called ourselves Funnies in Undies because we performed in our under garment XD) was I was the fry cook! I would flip patties on the grill while Benson and Tinkle played their little tunes :) I usually burnt them to a crisp and and they sometimes would get food poisoning. Great times! That banjo that Tinkle carried, yeah, he never really knew how to tune it, but he'd play it everyday and every night! And Benson would sing his got damn lungs out. Thanks for the video, brought back all the memories :) Cheers! -Aunt Timmy Jones
Thank you so much Jen. You give such good, practical advice that quickly gets me to a place where I can experiment. You open up so many possibilities that I wouldn't have even known to try for. ❤
Enjoyed this one! Big fan of this sound. Glad to hear you’re still writing and recording. The Mill song and the Devil are two excellent songs. Have a great weekend!
Hi Jen , thanks for the videos . Frailing all the way , the blues and hill country blues is super addictive . Make another video , you know you want to :)
Frailing at life,, this train bound for Glory, let's hear you play that whole song from start to finish and sing it with a bit of seriousness. I'm sure there's other folks that like to hear you sing all the way through a song from start to finish. Okay it'd be really nice. I'm sure you'll get around to doing that one of these days playing some music. You know you don't always have to do the lessons you could just play music we want to hear you saying we want to hear you play.
I thought my last message came out okay but apparently the very last part of it somehow it didn't make no sense sorry about that, that was my phone misspelling
I've been listening to your frailing. I don't have the method down yet, because I'm new at this. Do you change the order of the boom, chick, a, to the sweep, then the note, then 5th? I don't know why I think I'm hearing that.
I’ve done old joe Clark, I’ll put it up soon, it’s down to you that I can claw hammer, can’t thank you enough oh I cripple creek that’s up cheers. Stray1 the type of man not to challenge Ferguson yet beat fury.
I'm in Manchester, UK, and thinking about replacing my rather worn Goodtime. Notice you are using an Americana with Kavanjo pickup. Does the Kavanjo work ok with clawhammer? And, do you think a fiberskyn head and no-knot tailpiece work well on a 12 inch. I'm currently using them on a 11 inch. Thanks.
The kavanjo works great for me. Not sure if the skin and tailpiece react any differently on a 12inch - I'm not really into the technical aspects of the instrument! I just like fiberskyn heads so would put them on any banjo, can't stand the feel of the plastic ones!
Sorry no, just these free tutorials on RUclips which are hopefully enough to get people going. I don’t have time to commit to regular content like Patreon unfortunately. I mainly intended this channel to just have some initial lessons for total beginners to get started while I was off work with the pandemic. My PayPal is in the video descriptions if anyone wants to make a one-off donation. I’ll try to put a few more videos up if I get chance this year :)
I've played guitar for some 20 years now, and banjo for half as long, and somehow--playing slide on a banjo has never crossed my mind. Bravo!
Where'd you go? It's been a year since you posted. Hope you can come back if you've got the time.Your videos are awesome
Best teacher on RUclips
Thank you❤

Thank you so much for these tutorials!!
There’s a quote in Pete Seeger’s banjo book that says “there is no notes to a banjo. You just play it”
I just subbed, I hope you're still making videos! I got a goodtime banjo too, but mine is so old it has the gumby style head.
Brilliant Jen.will keep watching and learning.

Thanks for this, some really useful, down-to-earth advice, on getting real music out of a 5 string.
Thanks for all the lessons you've helped me so much !

Could you do us a sorrel on Wildwood Flower?
Hello, can you make a tutorial on how to play Steve Martin's Drop Thumb Medley?
I wouldn't have a clue where to start, sorry!
Stupid auto correct. Could you do a tutorial on Wildwood Flower?

Do you have an online course or patreon?
