- This talk is a wonderful global perspective on climate change and the effective actions we can take as individuals to collectively save the planet. Gordian Raacke is executive director of Renewable Energy Long Island, a not-for-profit organization working to accelerate the transition to 100% renewable energy systems. With a degree in civil engineer and 25-year track record on regional energy issues, Mr. Raacke will portray why and how we must and will transition to a 100% renewable energy supply glocally.
Gordian was a founding member of the Long Island Offshore Wind Initiative established in 2002, helped build the solar market on Long Island, and was trained by Vice President Al Gore as a Climate Reality Leader. In 2011, he led an initiative to study a one-hundred percent renewable electricity future for the region. He chaired the Energy Sustainability Committee of the Town of East Hampton and serves on the Town of Southampton Sustainability Committee, helping to formulate and implement community-wide 100% renewable energy goals. Martin Luther King had a dream..unfortunately this gentleman has an hallucination. Free, sustainable,clean catchwords don't fit the oxymoron in the industrial processes required to produce the technology. He should go play with some carbon fibre or pick up the dead birds.or find the recycling options for the next generation waste streams he will create . His ideological solution is whimsical and at best a part of the problems solution. I found the analogy of the tap most useful because as individuals we can use a lot less. It was nice and warm and fuzzy and hopefully.. just very light on substance.

I thought there would be no other comments under this talk than "Excellent talk". Had to scroll to the bottom to find a handful where people had something meaningful to say. I guess this is an indication that the talk was not so "excellent".
There is so much challenge associated with implementation of renewable energy, which we need to find a way to overcome and waste a TED talk on saying nothing is unfortunate.

Very poor quality propaganda - sorta like the barber telling you need a haircut. CO2 levels were way above 1000ppm before in the geologic history and the life flourished. There is nothing alarming if they go up to those levels again - the main effect would be the greening of the Earth - at the end it's the plants food.
