Synths for 2025? I been waiting for two:
1) An analog drum synth dedicated and optimized for making drum sounds, at least 3 oscillators with common waves, plus a sub and lots of noise options, very snappy envelopes and KPF (knob per function) panel layout, no keyboard. A synth with modulations that can make endless drum patches of any kind and a 31 band graphic EQ. I would then play the patch into a sampler at desired pitch and build up a kit from all the patches. It would be similar to the Arturia DrumBrute but full of subtractive physical controls. No sequencer obviously since it will play only one sound.
2) A vocal synth optimized for human voice, functions the same as a vocoder, but with human voices. Combination of PCM and high resolution digital oscillators, and dedicated controls for making anything from solo to choir vocals. I have been doing this very well today with a Roland JunoDS and a TC-Helicon vocal processor, and a 5 layer patch with the DS's choir vocoder type. My voice can modulate the patch and add lyrics too if desired. while what I have rigged is very good, it could be so much better if the entire synth was designed for this purpose. Casio came out with something like a voice synth lately, you type in your lyrics into the synth, but it is not good, not even close to as good as my configured setup. Software has done this too, but I don't use computers for music, and the interface is laborious and full of guesswork getting the desired sound.
Great show - PROGtastic!! YES! Gaz and I saw them on the UNION tour ;) and also enjoyed the chat about audio!! 🤫 #polyendsynth
Great show, and just been watching Benn Jordan's AI video, which ...yes.... well...erm, worth watching for sure, and maybe discussing in the show?
Worth a read too - www.ukmusic.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/APPG-AI-Report-Low-res.pdf
Good show gents (watched on catch-up) Like to see a Volca M1 (minimal desktop space) Been asking Korg for a while now :-)
Sorry I missed this last night. Just watched on catchup great show as always. 👍
@Synthspirations ... what inspired me ...
- Bach ... his organ works (before I knew about synths)
- Klaus Schulze Mirage (especially the track "Crystal Lake") ... my "door opener" for electronic music
- Wendy Carlos ... Bach and synths ... who wants more (but don´t forget her fantastic "Sonic Seasonings" album)
- Madis ... an electronic musician from Poland ... continuing where Klaus Schulze and Jean-Michel Jarre ended
- Lisa Bella Donna ... the queen of the Arps & Moogs (who else)
- Éliane Radigue and Else Marie Pade ... take the time to listen to her works
- Marius Leicht ... a brilliant musician with a deep classical background (I recommend his tracks on the Oberheim Eight Voice recorded at the GForce synthesizer studio ... a pure dream)
... and a happy and healthy new year ...
Awesome list! Make a video and submit it! 🙂
Missed last week's show catched up on this week's show...maybe only half concentrated but you missed all the news: Dtronics DT-DX is now on kickstarter, sim'ntonic has released Nome II.
In our defence, we'd already covered the DT-DX and the NOME II was announced a while back and isn't maybe our usual fodder on the show. Plus, as these things happened over Xmas/NY, where we tend to relax the show format a little for the festive season, they, and I'm sure a few other things, fell through the cracks 😉
However, I'm hoping to get a DT-DX to do a comparison with my TX816 to see how they compare, so maybe watch this space? 🙂
Woah, and this is also bad/sad. I thought the space/astronomy community was bad enough, but synths? ruclips.net/video/wAE1Q9p2_P8/видео.html
Also, interesting reading Roger Linn's comments on the LM Drum on Music Radar
Happy New Year everyone...lol
The Linn comments are "interesting" in that for years VST versions of the Linndrum have been on the market and Music Radar haven't committed to a multi page "comment a thon" about those. FM/CM's decision to completely ignore anything Behringer do/did for years, apart from these obviously snotty articles is why I stopped reading them, as the reviews should be about the gear, and its qualities/capabilities. Music Radar now just continuing that tradition of ignoring. unless it's a thinly veiled negative post (see their mini JT etc posts) what one of the largest MI companies in the world are doing, is sadly nothing short of pathetic, and one reason why your channel/sonicstate and a few others still stand up so well, as you balance the disdain for Uli's past behaviours, with honest and technically balanced comments about the gear itself. Beat EN and EM are now the only two magazines worth their salt in terms of reading material.
When it comes to balance, Personally I have little time for TE, but recognise that the KOII/PO's were great little products and offered great VFM/Fun factor, and it's also great in your weekly show that you are so honest about equipment when it comes to price/performance ratios (Kent is hilariously spot on IMHO)}
Keep up the great work, and see you all Friday
