    If we are serious about long term global security than citizens in western countries need to demand that Ukraine be provided the means to fully defend it’s land and drive Russia back to its internationally recognized borders. We have a unique opportunity here and decisively defeating Putin (especially if it results in his removal from power) is critical to dissuading Xi and others from trying the same.

Many were ready to surrender because they hated Stalin but when they saw the Nazis killing surrendered towns they quickly learned it was about survival. Fight or Die. Now they have no reason to fight. They could surrender and be sure if their survival. They could stop the attack and Russia would still be there tomorrow. It's why so many Russian Soldiers are retreating and surrendering.

      Let's not forget that if Putin is successful in Ukraine, Russia will be emboldened and strengthened with the control of the Black Sea. His next target will be the Baltic nations on Russia's border which are NATO allies (Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania). This will place American soldiers on the ground in a direct war against a nuclear armed nation.
      Every single Republican in the house has voted against every single aid package to Ukraine. Aid that has helped them try to stomp out Russian aggression where it starts. Our Republicans in the house are no different than the isolationist ostriches of WW1 and WW2 with their head in the sand, hoping that if we ignore the fire next door it will somehow magically burn out.
      The amount of aid we are sending to Ukraine is a drop in the bucket compared to our overall national defense spending. It does not cost a single American life. The Ukrainians are capable of winning this war without the need for a single American soldier involved, as long as they have weapons and aid to do so. If you know an American soldier, think of them. Vote Democrat for both the House and Senate this fall.

      The West has consistently underestimated Ukraine's capabilities (at least publically) and Russia has consistently underperformed. That under performance should not be discounted. To mount an invasion with the troops possessed by Russia was a fool's errand despite any impelling pressure consequent to demography. At this point, it would be hard not to believe that Russia could be beaten by most any third rate military power (given full logistical support from the West). The age old Russian dilemma, too many miles of weak borders, has bitten deep this time. Her hard numbers looked good on paper, but the cost per linear mile of border security is just too much to permit the Russian economy liberty to undertake foreign adventures. If you can't actually match the enemy pound for pound then you do everything in your power to promote the perception on paper that you actually can. Sometimes you start to believe your own bull shit. Russia has made a mistake that hurts no one in the long run more so than Russia itself. No matter who wins the war, Russia will be an international pariah for at least two generations, cutoff from gazillions of dollars of global economic activity and supply chains worldwide. It will be refused access to Western banking and capital markets; Western manufacturing; Western raw materials (and other global raw materials sources subject to Western influence); and Western technology. The oligarchy has genuinely shot itself in the foot. Russia is unnecessarily going to lose the benefit of hundreds of billions of dollars worth of economic activity.

      Don't forget the rot of corruption. Russian soldiers are paying with their lives because of the holes eaten in their supply systems by all the corrupt officials who skimmed money and supplies from their army.
      Ukraine has been fighting to escape Russian corruption for years and rid their country of it which is why their young government is such a threat to Putin.

    The problem here: Putin is not a student of history. This sounds way too similar to what happened to the military dictatorship in Argentina in the early 1980s. It was suffering from some pretty bad backlash from the Argentine people for poor economic performance. So it sought to change the subject by having "a splendid little war" over the Falkland Islands in 1982, thinking the UK was going to passively roll over. Like Putin, the Argentine military deluded itself into thinking this wouldn't be too bad, that victory would be quick and easy. The Brits were not having it, and the war was a total rout for Argentina. The losses were so terrifically bad that the military dictatorship lost almost all legitimacy and within 2 years it was overthrown and democracy ushered in to Argentina. These may be the first rumblings of Putin going through that same agonizing process...

    • @Luboman411
      @Luboman411 Год назад +3

      @iron threads3 He can't sleep. That's why he looks so pale and bloated now. He's a far cry from the tanned, svelte Putin of a mere 5 years ago, when he had Russia under this thumbs. This war has now cost him his most valuable asset--appearing strong and mighty. This war is making him out to be weak, incompetent and ineffective. And that is kryptonite to a dictator who wants to remain on the throne for any long period of time.

    • @andrewgause6971
      @andrewgause6971 Год назад +1

      @iron threads3 there is a RUclips guy called Lazerpig that hit the nail on the head in that regard a couple of days ago. He pointed out when discussing the sinking of the Moskiva that the USSR was largely Russia exploiting the member states to reap all of the benefits of the system through corruption and the like. In essence, it was a system that largely only benefited Russia itself. And that is why only Russia seems to have any fondness or rose-tinted glasses for that time period, while all the other former states (Ukraine, Poland, the baltics, etc.) Want nothing to do with that.
      I feel that is accurate. Russia has forgotten the USSR only managed half the stuff it did because it wasn't a purely Russian effort. This war is serving as a very, very sharp reminder that historically, when the Russians have gone on imperial "adventures" it has not ended well for them.

I couldn’t do anything about him becoming a dictator, when Crimea had been annexed I was just a 2nd grader, but I really hope that I’ll be one of many people who will at least prevent the next ruler usurping power and killing democracy. This is going to be tough for sure, but I’ll do anything I can so that by my 50th I’ll be a citizen of a free and prosperous country with strong democratic institutions and true federalism (and a member of EU if possible).

    A far easier task in the big picture of War, rather than going all out.

      It is, in fact, the opposite. The attacker gets to choose the time and place of an attack, the defender has to defend everywhere, and doesn't know if an attack is a feint, a secondary axis, or the main axis, so it can't commit reserves until perhaps too late. The attacker can attack on multiple fronts, and reinforce whichever is successful.
      The only advantage to the defender is prepared defences, and falling back on your own GLOC. All the flexibility is the attackers

      Its a really stupid one if it involves ceding your supply lines, your logistics hub, vast quantities of equipment and supplies, a highly defensive line for Ukraine along the banks of the Oskil, shores up their support amongst their foreign arms suppliers, and delivers a knock out blow to the confidence and support of your army and most vociferous backers. Why do people constantly believe Russian incompetence and defeat is always some masterstroke of genius. Here we are 6 months into one of history's most incompetent military campaigns with the Russians running around like the Keystone Cops having their a$$ handed to them on a regular basis by a citizen army overwhelmingly equipped with Cold War era Soviet junk with barely an air force and people still insist the Russians are deploying a devious master plan.
