The Gjellestad Ship Excavation: Searching for burial mounds - look what we found!

- Join archaeologists Christian and Margrethe on their search for two ancient burial grounds, following Norwegian archaeologist Nicolay Nicolaysen's 150-year-old documentation of the sites. In 1880 Nicolaysen led the excavation of the Gokstad ship. The Gokstad ship, Oseberg ship, and Tune ship are the three best preserved Viking Age ships in the world, and they will be exhibited in the new Museum of the Viking Age in Oslo, Norway, when it opens in 2026.

Gjellestad-prosjektet: På leting etter gravhauger - se hva vi fant!
Arkeologene Christian og Margrethe leter etter mer enn tusen år gamle gravhauger basert på 150 år gamle notater fra arkeolog Nicolay Nicolaysen - mannen som ledet utgravingen av Gokstadskipet i 1880. Gokstadskipet er et av de tre best bevarte vikingskipene i verden. Alle tre skal stilles ut i det nye Vikingtidsmuseet.
