Tv3 should stop the rappers from doing free style on popular songs. The rappers should sing songs as they are and not recompose new lyrics to the instruments. It is unprofessional to change someone's song on national TV because among other factors, someone could be hearing it for the first time and may think that's how the song is. If the rappers use their own lyrics it makes the competition unbalanced for the singers who have to memorise the right lyrics and sing word for word. Please take note. Its annoying to hear a rapper turn a popular hilife or cool song into a rap, using his own lyrics. It spoils the beauty of the song and the competition. Most annoying is that, even when its a rap song, these rappers still use their own lyrics and free style. It may look creative but as a National competition it sounds unprofessional. Shows like American idol will not tolerate that and we need to learn from best practices Tv3 Mentor XI pls take note. Thank you.
I disagree. Rappers are judged different from singers. Singers are judged on their singing techniques, vocals, pitching, etc. In the world of music, songs that are mostly covered are sung, while it is more rare to find covers of rap songs. Rap songs just aren't that creative when performed by another person. What criteria can you judge a rap cover by?

People rap obrafuors songs and get positive reactions from the audience. Singing competitions are known for popular songs being sang by the contestants as they are. If its a cover, they just change the tempo or genre but not the lyrics. Rap can also be covered using the same lyrics but changing the style of the chorus. Accept the truth that, the rappers are doing their own thing, changing popular songs and deviating from the core ingredient of the competition, which is the ability to sing and perform popular songs. Singing your own song was started by MTN hit maker but they later abandoned that brand because it was boring.
