I live in the west valley (Phoenix area) and my wife and I have our passports but I have been reluctant to go down there. It seems a bit complicated and I will explain what I mean. Some people tell me how cheap it is down there as far as your stay but I am finding that to be deceiving. After doing research on how much it will cost I am not sure if it's worth heading down there and honestly, I find it more expensive than San Diego. As an example of what I mean let's say a hotel is $130.00 per night so $260.00 per weekend. That's not a bad price but then you have booking fees, service fees, tax and administration fees, Mexican auto insurance, Mexican medical insurance and the horror stories of people being stopped by the police and having to pay them along with the dangers of the cartel I just can't pull the trigger (no pun intended) Some people make the argument that Phoenix is just as dangerous however at least in my case, I conceal carry all of the time here in Arizona which means I am legal to carry a firearm and I can't in Mexico. I would feel totally vulnerable down there. The other thing is if God forbid I get a flat here in Arizona or my car breaks I feel much safer here. If this happens in Mexico, who knows what will happen. What are your thoughts on what I said? BTW great video and I still want to go make no mistake but I have not been convinced it is worth it. Thanks Dave
Hi Dave, thanks so much for sharing your thoughts! I read this earlier, but wanted to wait until I had time to really address all of your points. First of all I agree it seems like nothing is cheap anymore! That being said, I think that it is relatively inexpensive when you compare it to accommodations that would be on the ocean in a place like Southern California. And while the room rates may not necessarily reflect, a huge savings, the cost of everything you do while you’re there does add up to give some good savings. Cost of food, souvenirs, entertainment, etc.. I know where you’re coming from where the concealed carry is concerned. If that is important for you to be able to do when you are on vacation, I would definitely say don’t go to Rocky Point! Best to travel with in the states that honor our Arizona concealed carry license. You probably already have resources for that, but if not, I will post a link to a book you can get that shows all 50 states, and if they honor, concealed carry licenses.
Overall though, I just want to let you know that I’ve never felt unsafe in Rocky point. I think where safety is concerned it’s just always a good idea to be respectful and aware. Also, I find that sticking to mainly tourist-friendly areas is a good policy as well. I’d say that’s true of Rocky point or any town one visits but is unfamiliar with 😊. Please keep us updated. If you do decide to go, we would love to hear your experiences.
@@EmptyNesterLifewhere can you get the Mexican insurance? We are going in 3 weeks from SoCal and also meeting up with some family coming from surprise, az
@@1bird2stoned You can call your car insurance agent and they should be able to set you up with the Mexico insurance. Or you can actually stop roadside on the way down - there are a lot of places in Ajo, Why Not, and Lukesville where you can pull in and get the insurance. I recommend going with your insurance agent though so you're paying a better price.
Sonora does not have a city called Rocky Point, it has one call Puerto peñasco. Let go visit La ciudad del lago salado in Utah or Montaña state, what about dirt red state,
Thanks for sharing a fun video. Did you have to get any kind of international insurance for your car, and how much did it cost? Any issues/concerns with driving an AZ plated vehicle into and back from Mexico on this particular route?
Yes you do need Mexico insurance for your car…our insurance agent does that for us, but you can also buy it on the way down. Ajo and Lukeville have lots of spots where you can stop. No issues driving an AZ car. Rocky Point is within a certain mileage from the border so no need to do anything special or get a vehicle permit.
It depends…we’re usually “one and done” drinkers when it comes to enjoying a cocktail so we drive ourselves. But if you do decide to tie one on, we Uber!
@@EmptyNesterLife That makes sense! I try to park as close as I can (ideally where I can see the car). I'm always worried I might be parking in some restricted area
Yes. We usually contact our insurance agent, but you can also stop in Ajo on the way down. There are a lot of places there to get insurance before you cross the border
We did this video the first week of August, which is when a lot of the kids in Arizona go back to school. We purposely like traveling places when it’s not as crowded :-)
We’ve always felt safe but we recommend making sure you stop for gas and bathroom breaks before crossing the border and just stay in vehicle until you get to Puerto Penasco
Rocky Point consists of shake downs by the "police", trashy beaches, abusive HOA fees, and obnoxious sales people on the beach. It is too bad because Mexico has 1000 of miles of Hawaii grade beaches or better, but the corruption has decimated the country. Getting that way here in the good old U.S. of A. That said, the people are the warmest hardest working people you will ever meet. Their language is beautiful. Too bad.
Completely agree that the people are amazing! Not really sure about the rest of it on personal experience, but we really appreciate you sharing your insights!
Bienvenido a Puerto peñasco another paradise of MEXICO.
Thanks for the great vid guys!
Thank you!!
Se agradecen mucho videos así,saludos
Gracias Marcelo 😊 🏖
Awesome video! I live out in NorCal so I don’t think I’m able to do this drive very easily haha but I would definitely love to!
You can do it Justin! It would take a long time though!

Your just a person that plays it way too safe it's pathetic. People like you will never walk on the moon or explore a new frontier
Se mira bien adóptame para viajar con ustedes😊
I go there every October
It’s such a great place to visit!
Did they check your passports when you crossed into Mexico?
No not crossing into Mexico, but they do check them on the way back into the United States
I'm thinking about driving to Mexico tomorrow from Scottsdale
You should be fine. Don't stop anywhere once you cross, and obviously during the day. Get Mexican car insurance. Be well!

I really want to go to the motorcycle rally! but I don't have a passport. Any idea if they're okay with ID and Birth cert coming back to the US?

Indeed Dennis! Blessing!
Recommendations for places to stay in Rocky Point?
Las Palomas condos are great. We love Los Conchas or Cholla Bay if renting a house.

Just for your guys records is Puerto Penasco, Sonora, Mexico. Or when you search your address only uses the city and country?
Yes Puerto Penasco is in the state of Sonora, Mexico
How much did your Mexican insurance coverage cost for this trip and how many days was it? Awesome video thanks. Very informative.
Hi, its about $30 or so, if i remember correctly.
Enjoy the “Hot Tub”. May caliente.
Yes! Especially this time of year
Where did you park your car when you went to the beach ?
We were staying at Las Palomas, so we walked to the beach from our car.
When you go to dinner restaurants do you walk or take ubers?

Hola pienso ir a puerto peñasco desde arizona cln mis niños , es tranquilo el camino ?
Hola Maria! The roads are quiet...once you get through the border town, there's approximately a 1 hour stretch that is just desert.

I'm going to guess that Mark is an Aquarius and Jacki is an Aries.

Is Puerto Peñasco AKA Rocky Point
Yes that's correct 😊

Rocky point is beautiful and never had a problem with locals. Everyone is working and hustling to make a living like us.
No , no , no the real name is puerto peñasco, not rocky point.
We hear you. That's the gringo way to define the area! Thanks for watching!
Cool , cool, and gringos are always welcome in mexico 👍😎
