Really nice set of detail updates on this one. One little thing as a detail driven engineer myself... on the position lights, when they change aspects, ya gotta get the blink in there.... The what? When you turn the clear aspect off, there's a time delay for them to go dark, and there's also a time delay for the stop aspect to light. it's about a second total but for a very brief moment, they're both off. Now depending on what timeline you're looking at, the center bulb would turn off for the stop aspect, but for clear and approach, it would be on. (much later heads had 2 reds for stop while the others remained yellow, hence the name 'red eye' signals on standard gauge). I completely realize that's a nitpicky detail, but it's sorta the same thing with searchlight signals, they briefly flash black then to the color of choice and sometimes twice depending on how many aspects it has to go past to get to the desired roundel, and when stopping on red, sometimes they bounce if they're well enough maintained such that the friction is so low when the head is released it bobbles once or twice when it lands in the unpowered red state. I can an agree compared to the two other operating locomotives at ford simply because torch was built for the sharp turns of the village. To help navigate the turns the wheels were changed and it needs to slow down on the shaper curve in the back because of how tall it is.

Supposedly they hated it as being "rough riding" but I think their track may have been a trifle on the shaky side.

I thought the engines looked like an american single fairlie. Then you guys described its articulating abilities, it definitely sounds like a single fairlie. It wasn't a coincidence, a search on wikipedia says Mason was the american licensee of fairlie's patent
Yeah Mason built a Fairlie called "Janus" a big 0-6-6-0T engine for the Lehigh Valley, then began building his own Bogies after that. I know Mark has roasted the D&RG Mountaineer on his channel before, but I hope it makes it to the game someday too. The evolution of narrow gauge is early on owes a lot to Fairlie's engines, and without the Ffestiniog then William Palmer may have never begun the Rio Grande. Yes the Baldwin 2-8-0 won the Rio Grande early on, but there was a time as short as it was; where the vision for the Grande looked a lot like an American Ffestiniog full of Fairlies and two axle rolling stock! I'd love to see that as a "what could have been" or maybe at least learn why the Fairlie never stuck on the Grande by trying it hand's on in game.
Mountaineer might find a home in Ponderosa given the maps smaller size, which would minimize the design’s lack of capacity. The lack of any leading or trailing wheels made it a rather rough rider, and it just didn’t have the range to make sense on something like the Grande. For Hyce/Studio346: an awesome project, but I'd like to add my 2 cents. The reverb on the whistle sounds a little overdone (I can't hear that much echo through the mountain valleys in my country when a loco whistles) and the whistle sample rate has audible steps in the pitch progression (can't it be blended further?). In any case, keep up the good work.
As a software developer I’ve always wondered why this and railroader have choppy whistle sounds. Could you not interpolate between the physical position of the 3D/UI handle between update frames to stop it from skipping between intensities?
I wonder if mason made a 0-4-4t locomotive because I’m thinking if the 2-6-6 and 0-6-6 are such good locomotives that they would still be amazing even if they were just a little bit smaller ( please know I do not know, but I do find these locomotive is beautiful so that is why I am asking)
Thank you for letting me know that mason made 0-4-4 now I’m wondering if there will be one in the game ? If not completely understandable with how much amazing other locomotives there making but if there will be I will definitely have one
Railroads Online planning on adding the Uintah Mallet feels like an act of desperation when looking at how stunning Century Of Steam is. 21:11 Speaking of the Uintah Mallet…
I know the Uintah Mallet has been teased by RO! for a long time, but this is only the umpteenth time they've announced a feature coming to their game weeks after CoS announced or teased it on their end. I am 99% convinced at least one RO! Dev is subscribed to CoS's Patreon. It's comical, but after multiple instances of this happening I assume somebody in RO! thinks they can beat CoS to the punch by watching Patreon uploads like a hawk and furiously writting down notes. If the Uintah Mallet ends up rushed and half-assed in RO! it will only make it look like they shoved it out to match CoS even more.
Can these operate like tank engines? As in as fast in reverse as they are going forwards? Or does the rear truly count as 'tender first'? Because if they can go both ways just as fast, that seems really handy. Capacity of a tender engine, but doesn't need a turntable necessarily
I wonder if you've made Walschaert's animation through rigging or some other method? I've been trying to do it with formulas for ages, but couldn't figure the final part which is a six-bar linkage.
Defiantly awesome, a mason bogey loco on 3ft gauge, shame no actual 3ft gauge loco doesn't exist, but ya gotta love the semaphores, especially at night. @TheUndeadHooligan gotcha, i knew it was set late 1800s to early 1900s, but I didn't know it went into the 60s, thanks!
the mason bogie make's me think of a larger forny, but only in terms of basic frame layout. ( if that make's sense )
Yes. Mason's first 3ft gauge bogie was named "Onward" and was an 0-4-4t.
There were several 0-4-4 Mason Bogies built.
@@rockytopgaming6820 thank you I appreciate it
@@joshbernhard882 thank you I appreciate it
Thank you for letting me know that mason made 0-4-4 now I’m wondering if there will be one in the game ? If not completely understandable with how much amazing other locomotives there making but if there will be I will definitely have one
Will there be the 2-8-6 Mason in cos? Or any of the other wheel arrangements of Mason bogies?
We yearn for the Choo-Choos!
Awwww man I was hoping they were hinting at that cursed rio grande garratt model lol.
Can these operate like tank engines? As in as fast in reverse as they are going forwards? Or does the rear truly count as 'tender first'?
Because if they can go both ways just as fast, that seems really handy. Capacity of a tender engine, but doesn't need a turntable necessarily
Yes. A number of railroads that had them, particularly in the northeast, used them as the backbone for commuter services.
Mason Bogie my beloved
BRO IT'S MY BRITHDAY AND I WENT TO THE HENRY FORD MUSEUM TODAY
Happy birthday! What a fun coincidence as well. :)
are the BRB&L EMUs going to in the game? It'd be fun
Mason Bogies? Absolutely yes ❤😂
Signals!!! And you can place them where you want!! And they have manual controll!!!
And... will we have some AI drivers for our trains?

I wonder if you've made Walschaert's animation through rigging or some other method? I've been trying to do it with formulas for ages, but couldn't figure the final part which is a six-bar linkage.
Defiantly awesome, a mason bogey loco on 3ft gauge, shame no actual 3ft gauge loco doesn't exist, but ya gotta love the semaphores, especially at night.
So are ya getting to work on more, including the D&RGWNG K-28s and white pass diesels soon in the near future? Just wondering, because I'm hyped up for the game coming out soon, but I promise to have patients.
They mentioned in their last dev log that they're working on the diesels, you can see an in progress 3d model of it.
@@WasatchWindI know, but I'm not quite sure whether they are working on the diesels or not, but then again that's just me.
@@danielmckinney5527 They literally showed that they're working on the diesels?
@@WasatchWind I know, just making sure they are, for sure.
the man-children yearn for the railroads
Oh hey some one actually talked to the Henry ford about there mason bogie and yes the locomotive is at the henry ford
hey mark, just wondering if there is any sort of timeframe for the games release
There is not
You do not know what suburban passenger hell you have unleashed upon my future saves with semaphores hahaha... MWHAHAHAH!
the tombstones are too good
So, are you guys gonna make a 2-8-6t Mason Bogie?
Pennsylvania Railroad cab signals please? I think they had narrow gauge set ups for it
