Thank you!...been searching for an answer!
Nice!
Thank God you made this video I thought I was losing my mind
I know this is an old video, however you just showed me the light! Thank you,I’ve been searching for the source of the knock.
Nice!!
Thanks buddy really appreciate it
Nice!!
Watching from NOrth Dakota..
We were told 02 sensor... thanks so much for the vid!
Nice!!
This was so helpful I really didnt want to get rid of my truck.
Thats awesome. Lucky with that year. The years of 2002 - 2004 were given a weak transmission. We had to ours.
Yea all good and safe.
Omg thank you so much for this video!!! I thought my engine was blowing!!!
;D
My explorer just started doing that noise a couple days ago., I thought it wss the wngine. Your video saved a lot of money. Thank you sir!
;D
Did this stop your car from moving ?
Checked to see on my own Explorer.. definitely the issue.
Thanks man
Ahh yes Thank you my friend.Im stuck on the side on the road as I type this ,trying to figure out this problem.Watching from Cali!!
O no!!~
I hope you were not in an explorer also.
This helped me found my problem. Thanks!
Hello thanks for your video on your Explorer I have a 98 Ford Explorer that is making the same noise
Omy!
Dude thanks! Same issue. I was so pissed after I replaced tensioners and it was still there. On the plus side I had a bad tensioner.
Nice! Glad you fixed it!~ sort of ;)
@@FixingWithPassion better than a bad engine lol
Great video, That's The True NEVER take someone's word for it..
Word!!! lol
You've made my day! Local shop quoted me 500 to replace the cat.
Please don’t tell me you payed that..
@@ericbennett7753 No, after some hunting I found someone to do the job for $350. Now no more knock /tick when cold!
Great garden hose tip, I thank you
its late...now go to bed...lol ;D
Great investigation. Had this noise start this week. 👊🏽😎
Nice discovery, you lucked out. That piece of hose is about the easiest stethoscope anyone can make.👍
I know right!
Watching from Bethel, Alaska! Thank you.
;D
Same thing going on with my 2012 super duty now. Could have swore it was a flywheel. Thanks!
P0420 code is a good sign its the cats with that noise.
Sharp looking explorer
On Explorers, you check the transmission fluid at the drain pan. Remove the T-30 screw and run the engine until warm. If fluid splatters, it's O.k. If it pours in a stream, it's too full. Add fluid with a special little cone tool and a fluid pump.
Big 10-4! A lot of the get stripped ;'(
@@FixingWithPassion You can get the drain plug on those. Lubrimatic 55-001 is the pump. CTA 7420 is the fill tool. Get a Actron CP9690 code tester. It checks live, record, emissions readiness test, transmission codes, graphing, oxygen sensor tests, and MORE! EBAY has it.
Talk I wish I was earlier when this video was here I have a 2000 Ford Expedition that I swear when you start up sounds like it's Rod knocking then after about 15 seconds it stops
O my!
Sounds like it has an exhaust leak as well. Good motor I have 334,200 on my 2007 4.6
Yes it does. Nice to see yours still going!
Thinking of an 08 4.6 with 200K. Guess it is just broken in!
You might of just saved my heart from breaking because I have the same sound on my mountaineer so now I got to see if its the same issue .. Cross fingers
What all have you done to it
..Yep, a dealer will tell ya, you need a new motor...!!
That’s it! I thought it was my lifters! But they were just replaced when I bought the truck! That’s the noise I’m hearing!
Sounds like the same noise I've got, I've tried everything, just this morning I put in two different tensioners in the passenger side, I'm going to go look now ,thanks
Yea that noise can be mastaking for rods also....give it a look craw under and listen,
Thanks for the garden hose trick, it really works 👍😎
This helped me confirm this issue. Thanks bro !!
Would like to see the video if you have on of you fixing the cat convert. I have a 04 Ford Explorer that's doing exactly the same thing.
Thanks boss man 👍👍✌️
Nathan, that garden hose hack is clever. Thank you for saving me some money.
Thank you
your amazing thank you my friend,
Yes I hope this is my problem sound dead on but only when warm.
Nice!
As long as I didnt get a engine code/engine light I would just run it that way and eventually it will wedge itself and the rattle will stop.. Its a round smaller pipe inside that has holes in it and the exhaust flow is going through or it wouldnt rattle. If the rattle bothers you, just drill a hole in the mid section and up to the top and put a long bolt from bottom to top and put a washer and nut and tighten it and that will stop it and save a bunch of money. Running a bolt bottom to top through any exhaust is how baffles were installed.
Yea...so far so good.
So would it be ok to drive like this if this is what the problem is? I’m going to fix it but just need a little time but also don’t want to drive it if it’s going to mess it up
@@vivian5517 If your convertor rattlles??? Is that what youre referencing. If so, no it wont hurt anything. Now if its blocked it can get an engine so hot it can cause damage/ Just be sure your knock or rattle isnt in the engine because if so, YES, that will cause major damage
@@EarlGuyton425 yes if the converter rattles, sorry I wasn’t clear. I checked and my brother checked and we saw it’s the converter not the engine. Thanks for your response!
Ty!
Ty!
Yup. That's thi exact noise I'm hearing on my 02 explorer. I thought for sure it was going to be the transmission, bad or low oil in the engine, or some of the pistons went bad.
Thank you for this video.....
But, what's the worst scenario that could happen if I ran it like that for a while?
I know I’m 7 months late. I also have a 02 explorer! Same sound! And the problem he had was the same!
How'd it get resolved and how long you drove it this way?
Two Saturdays ago mine started doing that and I swore that it was the engine blocking but it still runs
O my! Cat time!
This happened to me a year ago. And 2 days later I was barely able to drive 03 explorer. now my ROM won't even pass 2500. Dang this gone cost a lot
Did the sound go away after the truck warms up? I have a knock on 4.6 Mountaineer that goes away after starting for the day.
Sometimes.
My expo just threw a check engine for catalytic converter and this noise started to happen.. I believe this might be my problem.
O no!
Man I hope my ticking sound is something similar to yours , first I thought it was cam phaser pin sound.... but as I go under it sounds like the sound is coming from the exhaust system somewhere
I have the same problem from the truck I just bought today 😅
Interesting. Facebook marketplace has a Ford Explorer that runs and they say it's making a knock noise. They are selling it for $500 and it's a 2004. With 197,000 miles I wonder if it's just that.
If the running boards were off, then its mine ;)
I used the hose trick and couldn't find the noise anywhere on motor are trans..Hmmm..Cats didn't get checked..I never would thought to check them..Hope it's that..Ty sir
thanks for posting
Have a nice day!
10-4! ;)
I'm having This issue on my Ford explorer xlt 03 I thought my engine was knocking then I heard it under the car. I already many issues with it I just don't have the money rn to fix everything
O my!!
same thing happened after i rebuilt the motor , so i bought a converter and had a muffler shop cut it out and weld another one in .
Nice!
Dude you're a life savior im having the same issue with my 03 expectation .. i just test it out just like you said on your video and yup its the cat converter ....i was literally ready to take my car to a mechanic shop tomorrow .... and my mechanic said that my exhaust ring was bad .... thank you 🙏🏾 you just save a life 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Lol. Expectation. That's a good one
Hey Long & Strong Horn, I have a 2006 ford expedition 5.4L 3V - is this possible with my engine as well? sounds like shattered glass when i am in the drive thru.
hopefully it's just this, i hear two noises one is that rattle and the other is a constant rod nock sound.
Hoping for the best!
So was that it?
@@ninailsgimp No, it was the torque converter failing. Making a very similar sound
Thank you...saved me a boatload of $
Great!
I had the same thing . Be sure when you change the cats yo also check your muffler . Two of my cats were completely empty and all the material had blown through into the muffler so even after replacing the cats I still had low power until I changed the muffler !
Yea, its happened to me also. Thanks!
@@FixingWithPassion What did you end up doing to get rid of your noise.
Nathan, I M getting the same noise from my ford 2006 4.6 but it goes away after 10-15 secs. What if I leave it as is. Is it going to damage the engine?
Ik it’s a old video but did your cel come on or no? I’ve got a rattle from somewhere and I’m trying to narrow it down I’ve listened to the timing chains it’s doesn’t sound like it’s them and it’s so on off i haven’t a clue
P0420 code ;(
If that is my noise do you feel the rattle on top of the engine like the power steering pump
SPEECHLESS :)
I've got 04 F150.....scanner says cats are not working and Ive got the exact noise and no power !
Working on the truk all this week ....I ve already done the timing chains tensioners and more. Im just going to gut the cats until I can afford new ones.
This made my day
Can I get an update? I’m having the same issue with my F250….did removing the cats work for you ? Any feedback would be appreciated
03 expedition Eddie Bauer edition started doing a noise just like that on the passenger side so more than likely could be it. Sounds like the video. It’s coming near the cat also
Mt Olive NC
Nice!
Sir I’m very poor guy about car ! Do you’ve another video about that ? How did you solve the problem please??
nice good video sir
nice
I changed my oil then heard this after driving a while I got super scared. But I just bought it and it sat a year and half with not much starting or giving it gas. I live in a wet snowy place so I bet it got rusty or something and just snapped inside
That what my 2004 sound ñ mec.told me is the lifter.
you cut holes in the CC? Did that helP?
Just changed my canister vent valve solonoid, it fixed my hard shifting and rpm's from reving to high. I changed the throttle body, and it stopped me from losing power while making right turns. I think it was one of the sensors on it, i believe it was the throttle position sensor. I have a 2004 explorer 4.0 sohc flex fuel. The fuel and air intake problems are a nightmare. 3 mechanics, and a transman couldn't figure out the problem, returned my car free of charge after days of paying for rental cars. So me being a millwright who never worked on a car, decided to learn how the intake and fuel system works. I fixed the problem 2 weeks later. The hard shifting was destroying my drivetrain, i will never buy a ford ever again. The nightmare is real, and im living it!
You should have put more wd-8 to the intake snout. That's your Issue.
@@FixingWithPassion WD-8? Can you explain what you mean? I just drove it, and it didn't totally fix my problem.
I'm having the same issue with my mercury mountaineer 2002, a guy told me the engine is bad
Nice!!
From where you are at, Now in Spartanburg, S.C
Mom mom's was making the same sounds and the mechanic just told her it's the bearings in the motor
Get a 2nd and 3rd opinion.....
Did is sound extremely loud inside the car? And if your foot was on a gas pedal my foot vibrates but actually sounds like Its from my upper intake 04 ford Taurus ohv v6 single cam M
Yea it real loud and out
@@FixingWithPassion thank you Sir
Is this why when I press on the gas the noise stops
Bochom 705 Mine gets louder :(
For a few days it would go away when revving but yesterday it got really loud the more rpms so now im concerned
That's your timing chain tensioner
what if you drive a screw through the converter and push it tight against the exaust will it work u reckon i am having same issue thinking of a short cutt way of doing
Omg I've been thinking my tranny was going but it's making the same noise and I thought it was a loose hanger....
O my!!
Can it cause your truck to stopping running or driving?
Dude I just came to that conclusion when I was tightening bolts under my explorer now how much is it going to cost u
Another video was saying the timing chain guides wore out. I was hoping that's not my problem
O my!!
I was told it was the timing chain
Ours was the timing chain guides. Bought a junkyard engine and it had the same problem
@@alexvalencia1932 the chain itself is fine. It's the plastic guides they put in there to keep it where it's supposed to be.
Would a similar noise come from the tensioners like in the 4.0L?
Yeah
Ok, thank you I think it is the cats rattling. Thanks from NM
@@FixingWithPassion any codes pop
@@FixingWithPassion mine sounds
@@FixingWithPassion like sewing
I got a 1996 trying to figure out a noise that comes on idle but it’s really low sound
Can I get away with removing them? Or to just take out the insides?
Is this the 4.0 or the 4.6? I'm looking into buying a ford explorer for a noise issue.
I’m see from city of Uplund cal
Nice!!
Great advice!!! I have a similar clicking noise too.... Will try that hose and check where the noise is exactly... ;-) Mike in LA, Calif
Was it worth the buy Eddie Bauer
I have a 2006 ford explorer and it makes a rattle noise and it sounds like it's the motor. Do you think is the same problem as yours?
yep...if running fine....just a rattle in the cat. Got any codes?
Can this problem happen in a 2002 Ford Expedition with a 4.6?
Same with mine
Oh my God thank you bro you just saved my day
Nice~~!
Wow it sounds alot like rod knock
Do more videos on the explorer
I'm working on it tonight....and cussing it ....o-O
TVWXMAN32 ahhh! I drive one myself I’d like to see you replace the timing chain tensioners. Also trying to figure out a grind under the drivers side wheel just changed the brakes and has a new bearing
I have a video for timing chain tensioners on here also. It was for mountaineer 4.6 all the same.
My 97 5.0 explorer has this noise sounds like its right under my seat so that seems to be the issue.... That and my harmonic balancer is wiggling now at 345,896 miles
Wow! That's a lot of miles....Keep it going!
Ya just discovered today my rack and pinion steering is cracked right down the middle
;(
I'm watching from Orlando FL babe
My cat is in the same place under the driver side also.
Hi watching from chaparral nm
My engine oil temp light came on.
I just wanted to say thanks. I am currently having this issue with my 01 Explorer Sport. I was thinking the worst, being as the sound is close to the bottom of the engine and the bell housing. I thought it was going to be a larger issue.
I'm thinking this is.the issue tho, which is a relief. I'll report back after the fix.
Can I drive sport trac 4x4?with no front driveshaft
I found the same thing was told by a guy oh boy that's not good . So I did the same thing followed the noise and sure as the sun same thing.
Yea O my!
How much does this job cost at a shop?
$1,600
5.7 million
Did it fix it or what
Thank you very much !!!!
I bought my truck from a mechanic right? He thought it was a motor bearing right? Bought it for $600. Well 300 and my cats. I told him thanks. Because I knew it sounded great til ya hit the gas and clunk clunk clunk them biscuits were doing the noise in the cats. I was glad to Rush and give him the cats to gloat in his face!!!!! Lmao.
But yes the torque converter are big problems on these. You'll notice going up a hill in town 35mph limit that it tries to slip? Take it out of overdrive!
You did not accelerate it to see the resemblance to a rod..how about check engine light
