The 70's TV programmes take me back to a time when I was happy. Born in November 63 I spent mg youth growing up with such wonderful 70,s TV. So many Talanted personalities and quality programmes. Sitting with the family watching everything in black and white, happy 😊 times. When we had nothing, we had each other, those days were so much better than today. I am from Australia, but l ABSOLUTELY loved George and Mildred. Have watched each episode so many times. And Only Fools And Horses was out if thus world. I ABSOLUTELY loved the way Del boy spoke. Every character was fantastic! And also Love Thy Neighbour you couldn't put that on today!
I remember when I went to OZ back in the 80s, two Aussies on the campsite had their Holden battery wired up to a television (and fridge) so they could watch ' Bless This House' while downing some beers. Bloody great characters those two and it was such a great time to be there. They knew more about British comedy shows than I did.
Yootha Joyce was a fantastic actress, she appeared in all sorts of genres. There was a scene in Man About The House where George said something particularly insensitive and the look on her face was absolutely heartbreaking.
It's ironic because, like "Till Death Us Do Part", "Love Thy Neighbour" was supposed to be taking the Mickey out of racist attitudes. Jack Smethhurst's career was ruined by it as casting directors were afraid of hiring him because of the criticism of his character in it.
What a fantastic trip down memory lane. Lying on the carpet being told that it would 'ruin my eyes', getting seconds of Angel Delight and trying to work out what was happening on 'Play for Today' remain very fond memories.
Oh, my! Play for Today. I bought the DVD of one of those that was filmed at a local beauty spot. Apparently it was thought provoking. It certainly provoked a few thoughts in me. Rather uncharitable ones.
Every time there's the announcement that a 70's actor/tv personality has passed away it feels like they must be the last one from my childhood, this proves to be the antidote to all those announcements.
I was quite young but I still love the 70's, there was no Sky or internet & everything was more real , this vid brings back a nostalgia for those missed good old days !
Such a contrast in how we watched these stars then; which was usually once a week at the same time/place on the dial. Whereas now it’s any time of our choosing in a box set/ or media series/clip. Apart from the odd supplement/pull-out article in Radio or TV times, we weren’t force fed their private lives, and they were entertainers through and through. Part 2 right after the commercial break, can’t wait!
Thank you so much for these I’ve been watching practically nonstop. So many memories have been pried loose from my 50 year old 21st century fatigued brain.
As a young person in my 20s, I’m glad to say that I do NOT relate to any of the woke nonsense and politically correct “comedy shows” of today. Since I’ve lived in England, I’ve been going through the back catalogue of 70s comedies and I love all of them. Everybody was a target for jokes - black, white, English, Scottish, Irish, German, Indian, Pakistani - it didn’t matter. Everyone laughed at each other. In fact we have become less tolerant now than ever before. That’s not progress. That’s some kind of regressive evolution. And these comedy stars here should be cherished forever and never forgotten about. They have given us some of the best laughs we’ve ever and continue to in a now very dark and depressing world.
Some of what you say is correct about the comedies back then but to be more respectful is not woke but more considered comedy. There is lots of great comedy about today that tests the boundaries without a crass stereotypical approach that is simply not funny.

I loved Butterflies even though I was only 9 when it began, also Max. Boyce was a big favourite in our house, my dad had all his records (probably still has) 😅
A small selection of comedy stars yes, but everyone a jewel.
Although it ment missing out on some amazing talent is was nice that it only mentioned stars that are still alive today, I have heard about that retirement home for entertainer's, it would be great to be a fly on the wall there and hear some fun stories.
Great to learn Stanley Baxter and Mike Yarwood are still alive.
Wonderful to see a video about stars that are still around as opposed to have died....
I thought though some of these were gone....happily, they're not.
One funny moment that always happens in our family when someone offers a glass of wine to someone else....the quote from George and Mildred....
Roy Kinnear (Another great comedy actor though sadly not with us) is offered a glass of Brandy from Brian Murphy, the portion is very small. Roy looks at the bottom of the glass and says....
"This glass is a bit damp" 😂🤣
Love it!
I utterly agree Brian Murphy is a legend. He brought that intensity to every scene.
He was at Yootha Joyce's bedside when she died.
@@chrisparkes2179 really ?, I didn’t know that , thanks for telling me
@@alanbaxter8100 I heard she was a very lonely and troubled woman, but he always stood by her.
@@chrisparkes2179 hi Chris , Yeh after some thought I began to remember that Brian indeed stood by her, he looked after her when she had nobody. She was an utter Gem also , they were a perfect team
@@alanbaxter8100 She was a great actress. There's a clip of her on RUclips in "The Pumpkin Eater" - just a four minute scene but one of the most extraordinary pieces of acting
I've ever seen.
Brian Murphy - The Booze Cruise - Very funny and underated TV Film! 😂
I went to see Noises Off a couple of weeks ago, and Felicity Kendal was the star of the show.
That made me smile - thank you!
Dave Allen and the Goodies , i loved watching them
Great stuff Stu - more please
Thanks! Got some more of these planned - another 70s one and also one for the 1980s too.
