My sister and BIL spent a lot of money on my nephew towards college! He was so unhappy. He wanted to fish. So they finally told him to find a way to make money at it. He now has a very successful kayaking fishing guiding service. He has been featured on TV, in magazines… he has won many fishing tournaments and is heavily sponsored. I have never seen someone so happy with his work and life!

But I had a career I enjoyed, and was among the best in the industry, and was compensated well for it. I spent 35 years in the restaurant industry as a chef and manager. I retired September 2022 at 61. And I never discussed what I earned with my family. Until this past December. My brother asked why I drove $500 cars earning what I did. I explained that I was saving for my retirement, because Social security doesn't pay crap. I haven't worked in a restaurant in over 3 years, and yet I still get the occasional job offer. Find something you enjoy and be the best you can at the job. Ask if you can learn from the older employees, and don't be afraid to ask questions. AND PAY ATTENTION! Keep the phone in your pocket and listen.
