- We've had a lot of questions about making left handed fans! It's all in the location of the screw and the direction you fan the stave as you craft. Fan the staves to the right for right handed fans, and to the left for left handed fans. Make sure the hardware is nearest to you as you craft your fan and begin your feathers farthest from you. Links below for the staves we sell and the ostrich femina feathers we used in the video. :) Thanks and please Like & Subscribe for more fun Feather DIYs and fashion!

Hi! What kind of glue is best, and how do you avoid getting glue all over the feathers? 🤪
Great questions! We use hot glue for our feather fans (and for most of our feather work in general). And as for not getting the ostrich feathers in the way of the glue, it takes a little bit of practice. Ostrich feathers have a thick quill down the center, and that is what we always aim to glue on. It is the strongest part of the feather and will adhere nicely to the stave. We add glue first to the stave, and then place the ostrich plume down, pressing firmly up and down the spine of the quill to make contact. The flue (aka ostrich hairs/feathers) is so lightweight that the motion of placing the feather down, makes the flue float up, conveniently in the opposite direction. :) And as you see if the video, we place a piece of paper in between the staves so the feathers are out of the way. Thanks for watching and hope that helps!
this might be a stupid question but how many staves do you need to buy per fan? do you have to put together multiple staves?
Not a stupid question :) You can either buy single staves or an already made fan that has the staves, hardware, etc, so you just glue the feathers you want on to it. We have links in the description of both single and pre-made. If you buy single staves, its up to you how many staves you want, but the pre-made kind come with either 16 or 20 staves.
What's the name off the screws that I need to do this pls
