- This video is the ULTIMATE guide to making a wooden skimboard.
I show you how to make a high quality, DIY skimboard at home, with minimal tools. I go through all and explain all the steps, from laying out the board to giving it rocker, to cutting it out, sanding it, and clear coating it. This is a woody style skim board, rather than one with a foam core.

Very nice job, I’d love to know how you did the stencil for making your logos, maybe a video on that would be cool. 👍
Buy 1/4 thick marine plywood...and coat it with marine epoxy to waterproof the board so it won't get damaged easily..
i wonder if polyurethane bonds better to wood
Good job!
I've been waiting for this
You probably dont care but if you are stoned like me atm you can watch pretty much all of the new movies and series on instaflixxer. Have been watching with my gf during the lockdown :)
@Hendrix Brysen Definitely, been watching on InstaFlixxer for since november myself :)
Are you suppose to make the bottom slick
Could you use a spray paint clear coat to do this?
Do u put the polyurethane on the bottom and did u just leave it as a flat piece of wood with no arch?
Yes it's polyurethaned, and nope, the weights and shims give the board an arch.
what material or minwax did you use to finish your board?
i used marine polyurethane
Why not start with a thicker piece of ply, attempting to laminate 3 sheets while forming looks like it’d introduce voids and weakness
Laminating is how you get the curve to it. And how you get it to hold the curve. Also you could change the direction of each layer to add stiffness.
dope video! how much does the wood cost and where do you purchase the wood? great video!
Thanks! I buy 5'x5' sheets of 1/8 inch baltic birch that I buy at a local wood shop. Cost varies by location but it isn't crazy expensive.
Did you stain the top then put the design
What size of marine plywood to make a skimboard?
I used a 5x5 sheet of Baltic birch plywood which was plenty for one board with lots left over to make more
Do you think you can put all info in the comments
WHAT WATERPROOF SEALENT DID U USE
WHAT DO U DO TO THE BOTTOM
It's a oil based polyurathane
Can it be a tipe of water proof paint
What the name of the glue?
Titebond III, good stuff for board building
Miata!!
check out my cars channel if you're interested in seeing the Miata! @CashedOutCars
you should make a freeboard
+CR Pulizzotto we'll see, I don't have much time to work on projects right now but it would be awesome!
I just got one for 5 bucks at a garage sale and I love it
I wanna make a thkimboard!
Thame!
In my first work I always used Stodoys plans.
Can you make me one and sell it to me
Possibly! Message me at cashedoutboards@gmail.com and we can try to work something out!
whoa that is one fat board
+Max N 😂that's a skim board for ya, more surface area helps you skim on the water better!
No a proper flatland board should be 4 ways symmetrical and no more than 50cm wide otherwise you can't do any tricks. If you want to skim better you make a sturdier board so it doesn't flew when it touches the water
