Hey guys. I'm new to your channel and enjoying it very much. It's pretty exciting for me as an old prog snob from the '70s to see younger music lovers discover what I fell in love with more than 50 years ago. Your reactions are close to what ours were back in the day. Like nothing we'd ever heard. Keep exploring your musical journey and always have fun. Cheers!

Hi Nick, Still listening, so writing before I forget. I never really got into Gentle Giant, meaning they just never came scross my radar, although I saw their albums in the vinyl record racks when I browsed in stores. ... I'm 6 minutes in to the video and this part reminds me very much of the 'Yes' track' "We Have Heaven" which is reprised in a last track on the album "Fragile", but not listed on the album. It cuts in after the album is finished in a surprise moment. Once you hear it you will see what I mean with the vocals.....and 3 years after 'Yes' track. I love Blackfield and this is among my favourite tracks. That Greatest Hits album is brilliant ! I'm sure I have heard the other artists but only from you doing previous reactions.... I'm sat back with a coffee enjoying this marathon. [ slightly a few days late. Lol ] Thankyou ! Byee Jim X

Roine Stolt, pronounced royna. Is the guitar player in Transatlantic. His regular band is The Flower Kings. You have to check them out. Songs like "The Magic Circus Of Zeb" "There Is More To This World" and "Stardust We Are" will blow your mind ! He has become my favorite guitar player.

    Hi Nick.
The band members for this track (from their album COMM) are:
    - Luke Machin / guitars, vocals, co-producer
    - Andy Tillison / keyboards vocals, co-producer
    - Theo Travis / saxophones, flute
    - Jonathan Barrett / bass, vocals
    - Nick Rickwood / drums
You actually recited a track by the band (a later line-up): The Melting Andalusian Skies, from their album Proxy. Very jazz/fusiony, and you wondered if the guitarist (Luke) might be Guthrie (if I recall).
That album did feature bassist Jonas Reingold, once of the Flower Kings, and an original Tangent member.
Andy formed the band in 2003, with line up you mentioned, for the first album (with David Jackson of VDGG on sax).
PS. Found that earlier Tangent review of yours. Just to remind you. Very different to Tech Support Guy.

Cool that you know Andy Edwards and his show and music. Thanks for playing some. I enjoyed it all and will give a re-listen. I'll tell him if I see him that you ping'd 'im. He takes a philosophical approach to music sometimes, like when he talks about the Britishness of High Prog (my term) and how it may have run out of gas in '74. It did change, as we everything after the war. With the internets being what they are, I see absolutely no reason why you two can't jam...you auf der guitar, und Andy auf der percussif. I may go and suggest it to him right now. Get Newstead (Abbey?) to add organ, und der Dougdocktor, chorals, und der Teen I mean Dean Wolfe, un autre gitarre. Kudos SCD! And RIP to the fallen Giant.
Today at 1 (Eastern), Andy will be comparing Mahavishnu and Weather Report. ruclips.net/video/7sWQegnY-nM/видео.htmlsi=SB7cp8V0UdogLb6x

Great reaction as usual Nick. I really enjoyed the IQ selection. I am only familiar with their Frequency and Road of Bones albums. I need to dive deeper into their catalog.
Enjoy the Kansas concert. I saw them twice in the mid seventies, first as an opening act, then as a headliner (in a large Arena).
You have heard a prior Tangent song from their album Proxy (pawn chess piece) called The Melting Andulusian Sky...a instrumental Jazz fusion song. They are a very surprising band with lots of genre mixing.

Hi guys, as always, love what you do. I suggested you listen to Thomas Dolby ‘I Love You, Goodbye’ just for your personal audio enjoyment- incredible fidelity!
Now I’d like to introduce you to the band Touch - amazing (though effect heavy) American prog from 1969. Very eclectic, with soaring and subtle changes in tempos , styles, and moods. I hope you’ll take the time to treat yourselves to this gem!

As an old schooler or Prog OG, I find it hard relating to the later post-Progbands or the sons and daughters of the originators (who are always going to be the most unique, adventurous and progressive.) Often it's because newer bands clearly use the ideas from the past but rarely come up with ideas we've never heard before which makes them sound cliché' and that especially goes for the singers who tend to sound generic & not very original. I am still waiting for HAPPY THE MAN to have their day! One of the true purest of the 70's next unique incantations of Prog

    1. Cogs in Cogs by Gentle Giant. >>> Boring, too much like yes.
    2. 1,000 People by Blackfield. >>> Prog-pop genius, side project from Steven Wilson with Aviv Geffen (Israel). Gorgeous music, all albums are stellar.
    3. All Falls Down by Flying Colors. >>> Boring neo-prog, you could put any other recent supergrpup on it, makes no difference. Too demonstrative (You shear how fast we can play?)
    4. Tech Support Guy by The Tangent. >>> Boring, they try to sound like old prog bands without the same talent.
    5. Black as the Sky by Transatlantic >>> Used to like the first album. Changed my mind since?Boring neo-prog, you could put any other recent supergrpup on it, makes no difference.
    6. You Never Will by IQ >>> My favorite neo-prog ever ;-) So glad you do another one but MORE MOORE MORE please !!! ;-)

Well, good to see that this marathon was able to stay up!
"Cogs in Cogs" is my FAVE Gentle Giant track. I can remember it was too "weird" for me when 1st hearing it (and the album) and it stayed on my shelf for years. If it wasn't for this album, I never would have _understood_ the wilder and avant-garde Prog (and Prog Metal). Mid-period King Crimson also helped get into the atmospheric and odd.
But you can totally hear where Spock's Beard's earlier days were inspired by. And YES! If you ever get around to *Kansas* "The Spyder" & "Paradox", you'll hear a bit of GG! Btw - the singer, keyboardist, guitarist from Blackfield, "Aviv Geffen" is from Israel, and is now the lead-singer since Wilson is concentrating on Porcupine Tree now.
I've forgotten about that Flying Colors track, I think that's the heaviest I've ever heard Steve Morse get on the guitar. If anyone is gonna' get Steve that heavy, it be Mike Portnoy :D. And I agree that "Casey McPherson" does sound like Muse's vocalist in this one.
    - ALL these pieces were excellent, covering different aspects of Progressive Rock. Good stuff Sidecar! I hope your doggie is doing well too. Thanks for introducing more Gentle Giant to Nick :).
