    Ideal for those who have been decluttering for a long time with little success and those looking for more community and support.
    In the Declutter Your Home in 15 Minutes a Day course we go through the workbook, breaking down specific areas of your home in detail to be able to declutter faster and with more confidence. If you want to know specifics (like how many of each thing to keep) this course is for you.

      Hi! Love your videos. You are inspirational. Yes, I noticed Goodwill increase their priced and yes I try on clothes at second hand stores too except Goodwill took out dressing rooms here. A few weeks ago I also found one of those green molds which I think is an old jello mold (it stayed at the store). I also love milk glass and have a couple of vases. Much love & blessings from Missouri. ❤

      The mystery Tupperware is a Jell-O mold!!
      They were from Beck I believe in the 70s maybe 80s🎉.
      You mix up your Jell-O and you can even do different layers if you like. You put it in the fridge overnight and then you undo the Tupperware and it’s easier for your jello mold to pop out. Then you put the jello mold on a plate! that red cake plate would be something fun to put a Jell-O mold on is with any plate for that matter. ❤😊

      And our local consignment shop is great, too. They have incredible sales!

    Before I buy anything at a thrift store or even on sale, I say to myself "Do you love this enough to pay full price for it?" If the answer is no, then I don't get it. Although I almost never buy things full price, it's a great way for me to judge how much I actually like and will use the item. I also ask myself the famous Dawn question "Do you want to manage this item?". That one has helped me tremendously!

    My kids were extra slim and long-legged. I had to keep a measuring tape in my purse and measure the waist and inseam at all stores, not just thrift stores. And the tupperware is a jello mold! The lack of fitting rooms has almost stopped me from going often. Or, I wear tiny clothes and just try stuff on anyway with a mirror. :-) I asked and they said theft was a huge problem that they could combat in part with removing fitting rooms. It also probably dramatically lowers their staffing for returning items to where they go. I am still VERY not happy with that.

      This is exactly what I was going to suggest. I've done it for many years:keep a little dressmaker's measuring tape in my purse or car, and keep a note of household/family members measurements in my phone (remember to take updated measurements occasionally, especially with growing kids), I even take measurements of areas in my home that I'm looking to furnish. With this method, I've bought a few furniture items and even bought my husband a fantastic suit, because I had all his measurements!

    • @wallflower5182
      @wallflower5182 Год назад +2

      I agree with all of you about the tape measure and have done that myself. I also take pictures on my phone of items I am trying to match (a blouse for some pants, etc), so I don't end up with some odd combinations. I also have DVD's listed in my phone which I need to fill out a set, or other items I am looking for when visiting rummages or thrift shops. My phone is literally my brain, I'm afraid. I'd be lost without it.

      Goodwill prices have gone up but it's due to everything else going up in cost. They have to deal with increased costs in supplies, wages for staff, etc. They aren't exempt from that. I will say, the prices on your video were much higher than here in west Michigan. The area definitely makes a difference.

Like Monday, yellow tags half off, Tuesday purple tags, etc. That was pretty awesome. Love love finding what I need and seeing it as the color for that day. Haha best deals ever. Nowadays though I use Facebook marketplace the most because it directly helps the individual selling them and you don't get easily sidetracked by stuff as you walk by an aisle etc. Less impulse shopping when you have to be intentional to actually go pick up the individual item your buying etc. Def. Saved me alot of money and potentially regret buys over this past couple years. Love that!

    And that was tooo sweet when your daughter brought that shirt that said “ I love Mom” and that looked cute on her even though a little pricey of $6.99 but some purchases are worth it with that huge smile on her face!

    • @unboundbytiffany
      @unboundbytiffany 2 года назад +2

      I love seeing others perception of "pricey", which varies from one person to the next already but especially to see it from people living on the mainland vs. Our costs here, 6.99 even at a savers here for a t shirt is usually the least expensive you'll get nowadays here. Another reason I don't bother on clothing at our islands thrift stores. But then again I don't even bother with clothing anymore. (OK, and yes I'm spoiled as heck from having modal and bamboo fabric clothings especially when I was pregnant, now I can't wear anything else comfortably. So I have the smallest wardrobe probably known to man, but yeah I sadly spent a bit more on them than even 6.99 but I will say, worth every penny as I wear them everyday. Changing between maybe a few pairs of yoga pants, a pair of jeans, rarely, and leggings etc. And just modal tank tops. The one thing I do tend to spend on clothing wise is sweaters.. yes in our tropical weather I wear sweaters daily. Lmao. Except this past month, it's been so freaking hot. Ufh. Sad I love my sweaters! To be fair, they're lightweight, thin and extremely comfortable and soft modal or bamboo sweaters.) But everything besides my 'leaving the house' black yoga pants, doubles as pajamas/loungewear. So yeah I have maybe only a dozen or 2 tops in clothing pieces that I wear daily in total.. not including the 4 large tote bins of clothes from when I was younger before being a work at home momma etc. That need to be donated asap and cleared out. But it'd always fascinating to see how many clothes I used to have, most probably rarely ever worn, and I just don't even know why I ever accumulated them to begin with. I guess as I get older i just care less about style and fashion in the sense of wearing something different (in looks not in actual item haha i don't re-wear the same outfit every single day, but honestly it kinda looks like it. Lots of black. But sooo comfy. That's def. Become my priority nowadays. Lol! But I'll tell ya, it def. Makes my closets alot less ridiculously overloaded and keeps me alot happier. So sorry, that was a long tangent. But yeah, for myself atleast I'm happy with a very small wardrobe as long as it's comfy as all heck. Hahaha. Spend my money and space on my craft room and baby boy over clothing any day

    The Tupperware jello mold from my childhood!
    There is an Assistance League thrift store just up the street. My looks and face and body were just made for vintage Talbots and they happen to have a section of the higher priced name brand clothes that’s heavy on newish and vintage Talbots. I have to restrain myself from going in because I ALWAYS find something awesome for a great price. I do a capsule wardrobe and it’s probably 95% from that one thrift store. I love thrifting, it doesn’t gross me out one bit. The emoji for thrifting is 😏.

    Dawn you can also fill the white mold in the center with punch, fruit etc. freeze it, unmold it, and put it in a punch bowl, then you don't need ice. You can do the same with the outer ring as well. Every Christmas we freeze punch with lemon's limes and orange slices in the big mold and then we put it in the punch bowl add, more punch gingerale, and sherbert, keeps it cold and also it dosen't get watery.

    I have had an amazing life so far with having been able to visit Paris (years ago) and shop there, but I must say that nothing beats the joy of finding a treasure at a thrift store that is the perfect purchase, and I am absolutely not too proud to recognize the true value of things like my $2.98 German leather loafers that garnered so many compliments. So I am dedicated to going anywhere I may find that "just right" thing - and watching Maggie derive so much joy from her cool thrift store blouse, that is the real answer. It is going to set her innate sense of style, and it could have come from Paris itself for all the pleasure and confidence it generates!

    My friends and I love thrifting. Growing up in a large family it was so helpful. In the Chicago land area very few have a fitting room but many will put mirrors in back of the store. On thrift store day we wear leggings, a tight fitting top or tank top with a large top over it. Remove the large top and try on clothes in the back of the store over our tight fit clothes. 🤷 It the norm here. Everyone does it. LOL. Love you videos.

    I am a true believer in resale shopping as well as 2 of my daughters! Kids clothes in good condition are a good buy. We have found many quality name brand clothes both for children and adults. Along with clothing and household items we have found everything from backpacks to handbags! I do have a rule before buying, I have to really like the item and have a definite place for it. If I buy an article of clothing I use the 1 in 1 out method to avoid over indulging. I keep a donate box handy to remind me not to buy something I don't need. It is fun exploring resale when I have something in mind that I am looking for. I do agree Goodwill prices have gone up so in our area they offer half off a different tag color each week. So I always hope that I find the sale tag to save a little extra on an item I want to buy!

    That thing that looks like a Bundt cake maker is for making ice molds for punch bowls. My daughter never wanted secondhand stuff when she was a tween. We all wore hand me downs as kids. I turned her on to thrift stores and she is now hooked. She also has this group of young ladies who get together and they bring items they want to swap. They have a good time hanging out and stretch their closets for the cost of bringing a bottle of wine. She believes in recycling. I have foster kitten who is incontinent; she saw an almost full package of wee wee pads sitting on top of the garbage in a rich neighborhood and a really expensive, almost brand-new pet carrier, and brought them to me. I used the pads and love the carrier. I watch you and Cas and have been working on decluttering this house a drawer at a time. I cleaned out my linen closet recently and gave a giant bag of big towels to a horse farm that works with vets, and the smaller ones went to the shelter I foster for. "One man's garbage is another one's riches", my grandma always said.

    I am very intentional about buying all clothing for myself and my kids at second-hand stores. (Besides the obvious undergarments and socks.) To me it’s not just a frugality thing, it’s an ethical thing. Knowing that most clothing is not ethically made, I don’t want to add demand for it by buying new. But I will happily take someone else’s discards to keep them out of the landfill. And I do try on in the store! 😄

    Yes, the prices at Goodwill are so high now! We still have fitting rooms though (which we take advantage of too.) I have a local consignment store that I buy things for myself at. They have only accept nicer to high end brands so I pay a little more, but definitely less than buying new and I can try things on before buying. Plus, I take in any clothes I'm decluttering for store credit so I am able to pay for new things out of that.

    I have a list also when I go thrifting. My rule is "when in doubt don't" and if it has to be modified, the answer is also 'no'. I love buying clothing at the thrift stores and I have no hesitancy about trying things on. I don't think the people shopping there are any worse than the ones trying on clothes at Macy's. If there are not allowing trying on in dressing rooms, I just stand in front of a mirror and slip tops on over my clothes (I always wear a t-shirt so there is no bulk). I don't buy pants if trying on is not allowed because of the return policy. My favorite thrift store is called Eco Thrift. Second favorite Goodwill. Both are organized by size. Goodwill also organized by color. Love it.

    Great job on normalizing shopping at thrift stores. It feeds my environmentally conscious sole.

    I’m from the PNW area (puyallup, wa) and our thrift store prices have become outrageous. The local value village now prices children’s picture books at $4!!

    I get so frustrated thrifting! Clothes are something I have to try on. My daughter is 16, so she, like Adeline, has to be there to pick it out. I’m not sure if our Goodwill still has places to try on clothes! I WISH I was as frugal as you! Sometimes I’ll buy something just because it actually fits!
    Hope you’re doing great, Dawn!

      I hear you on the fit part! Just finding something in the right length, after 20 stores in multiple towns you buy it unless you absolutely detest the fashion.

      I go in leggings and a close fitting tee, and just try stuff on right in the aisle. Also our stores allow returns for credit, in 7 days if the tags are still on.
