If only Morne Morkel used the Yorker more in his career , he would have been an all time great . He had all the natural attributes to be a great bowler , unfortunately the tactical side was at times lacking.
Excellent observation. If only he had bowled half a foot fuller especially in helpful conditions, the guy could have ran through lineups on his own. Mysterious to think he never changed his approach.
He was a perfect foil for philander & Steyn.... They used to attack up-front, and Morne not selfishly always held his end, he was always economical & hard to hit .... Always a team-man....
@@dearmrkiran He has the same bowling average as Broad and Anderson, and he played 90% of his cricket as a foil for Steyn and Philander. He is an all time great, and that trio is the all time great fast bowling trio.
Whe Morne first played first class cricket,he was noted for his tremendous yorker which j he somehow lost during his test career. Here he got it going perfectly again!
3:06 I remember watching this back to back yorker incident multiple times (including highlights). The memory's still clear in my mind because how cool and rare it is to get back to back bowled wickets in Test Cricket. And Morne Morkel was my favourite fast bowler at that time. Love from Sri Lanka!
He was a supreme bowler. He was always overshadowed by Steyn unfortunately. Many batsmen especially the Aussie ones have told that Morne was harder to face than Steyn.
Several players not even remembered while they had 350+ test wkts. Shaun Pollock, Herath, Vaas, Harbhajan, Ntini, Ashwin, Ian Botham, Nathan Lyon, Kumble etc Same is the case with test batsmen, players like Sangakara, Mahela Jayawardene, Graeme Smith, Younis Khan, Alistair Cook, Chanderpaul, Alan Border, Sehwag etc

If Morkel had bowled like this more consistently, his career stats would have been much better. Time and again he bowled a short length. I don't know whether this was his choice or whether he was instructed to in order to "tie up an end". With Morkel as a kind of enforcer, often it was Steyn who then got the wickets.
I read a book a few years back on the 50 greatest spells of bowling in test cricket, there was a similar piece done on Cricinfo in the last couple of years, both had this spell as all time top 5. Don't think Morkel realised how good he really was.
Not convinced that the ball hit the glove in the first dismissal. Morne Morkel is a fantastic bowler though and may well have got this guy the next ball/over the way he was bowling.
@@skd2697 But their peak never lasted long. Yes, they did beat Australia in Australia, India in India and India in England They were the Test number 1 side in 2012 for only 1 year and and soon got overtaken by South Africa
What e treat to watch that Africa team Amla, Smith , Kallis, dumini, du plesis, ab de Villiers, Steyn, morkal,Boucher,. All were legend..
True!
Philander too. Unreal side.
Morne was such an underrated bowler, often talked less about, probably one of the best bowlers in all conditions , across all formats
This SA test team... Omg im crying right now as a South African
😓

100%, through out his career I wished he could find a way to swing the ball.

Very very underrated bowler though one of the best along the lines of Brett Lee and Steyn.

Morne Morkel most underrated bowler
If not steyn and Philander than Morkel will deliver...what a team it was those days
You forget about Kallis and Imran Tahir
They had 5 World Class bowlers
The iconic boucher ball throw up in the air after catching it🔥
When an underrated bowlers destructs an underrated team ! Morne and NZ fav for many but were always under destruction.
South Africa test team was something else those days
Golden team

This SA team was freak....!! No matter where they played they alwys looked superior to their opponents.... Even Indian team weren't spared

I also believed. Dhawan could never face him properly 😆

How much destructive this South African bowling lineup was 🤯🤯🤯
This was Mark Boucher's last appearance in test cricket . 147 test matches long career.
999 dismissals too.
That was the invincible South African team at their peak
Left handers even in their dreams they don’t want morne to bowl in test match
That time they won series in England Australia and New Zealand
Most underrated bowler
