The “split primary”idea is new to me, but it makes perfect sense! When I try new paints, I usually buy the primaries; now I know why some of my color mixing is so hard! Just one of those “duh!” moments!❤️

That's great, Nanci. I stumbled over it a long time ago. Don't know why it's the best kept secret in the art world

hm, my palette looks similar, but I use a green instead of the orange yellow and I have a primary and secondary palette.
Maybe that's why some split-primary palettes work well, because some modern colors are more primary and secondary colors are used instead
of e.g. having no primary colour and instead having two colors that are too much in one of two directions and when mixed come close to one primary colour.
Through the too high proportion of these two colour directions a bit into a muddy look.

This is a very timely lesson. I am understanding more and more about watercolor because of you and am trying to get up the nerve to set up a palette. I think I will start with a smaller one. Depending on price because I am on a limited budget, I would be very interested in taking a class on this subject.

I'm so glad, Glenda. Thanks. Remember that the order of importance is Paper, then brushes, then paint. Start with cheaper paint.

Hi Diana, thanks for this video. I’d be interested in an online class, especially about the colours possible from mixing the split primaries. Btw, is there a reason you left a space between the yellows in the palette?

Thanks Beverley. Keep an eye here and on my blog. I'm be starting private live streams in color mixing colors and brushstrokes soon. LOL about the yellows. I don't know why there is a space there either.

I’m at the stage of wanting to set up a good palette so any advice I can get with mixing would be awesome, it’s going to be a slow process due to cost!.....Susie xxx💕
