Mega Drive has some "interesting" features: Unique soundtrack for BGM 2 Mountain Environment has been changed to the Beach, probably a reference to Outrun The Sprites aren't recycled unlike Amiga, Atari ST and DOS, they are new and original The AI on Championship are more difficult The camera angle during gameplay seems lower Also, the Mega Drive version is impossible to beat without using Game Genie
Sincerley the genesis version of lotus named lotus 2 R.E.C.S. , looks pretty good, as I heard that people sayed most of their games have horrible and disastrous music, his music in the genesis version of this game turned out very well for me
Friend: "I hope Horizon Chase Turbo reminds me of Lotus III on the Genesis. Me: "I think Horizon Chase Turbo will remind you o pretty much any arcade racer you played in the 16 bit era."
Having a smooth scrolling 2D (or 3D) racing game on the PC at the time was not a given in any way, so well done for Gremlin and Magnetic Fields. Still, the game was released in 1993, a full year after Geoff Crammond's F1 Grand Prix, so the "OUT RUN" format was incredibly dated by that time. Then add to that the cost of a PC and the user's profile, and you have a game that's waaay too little too late, which renders irrelevant any goodness it could have. The GENESIS version is a worthy addition to the system's lineup of similar games
The Genesis version looks worse here, it looks like a SNES game, with stretched graphics because it runs in the Genesis low resolution mode which is the same as SNES default resolution: 256x224 pixels. Most others Genesis games looks better/crisper because they run in 320x224 pixels. Then audio wise, both versions sound rather bad. F1 on Genesis (the formula one game by Domark) has much better engine sound than this! Anyway by the time this game came out, the Sega Genesis was already released since 5 years (since 1988) and this versus more recent PC, it's not surprising that the latter wins but still the Genesis version is pretty good.
Just so you know, the Mega Drive is basically a stripped-down System 16, a Sega arcade board released in 1985 and which also served as inspiration for Capcom's CPS-1 arcade board or the Neo Geo and the Mega Drive is already more powerful than the Amiga so imagine the System 16 ;) But about Lotus III, I never bothered much with the Mega Drive version since it seems like a rather cheap port, same happened with the previous Lotus game. But with a more involved development, the Mega Drive could have handled both Lotus games in higher res and with music + sound fx at once.
The Genesis version looks worse, it looks like a SNES game, with stretched graphics because it runs in the Genesis low resolution mode which is the same as SNES default resolution: 256x224. Most others Genesis games looks much better because they run in 320x224. But about the sound though, both sound bad! xD
Back then, 2D games were mostly better on consoles. Especially because the monitors were mostly non-interlaced so games looked extremely pixelated and also because side scrolling action games such as platformers and shoot-em ups are barely even playable with a keyboard. There were controllers but good luck finding one that was compatible and good luck finding a PC game compatible with a controller. Point and click adventure games were pretty much the only exceptions and even those usually had extremely choppy scrollings. All that being said, here's a Lotus game that's far superior to the Genesis version. I don't think it is the best version though because the Amiga versions have such vastly superior soundtracks and sound effects. Synthesizers are so inferior to samplers. They could have used sampled tracks on PC but, for some reason, developers were mostly using synthesized soundtracks on PC. Yes, there were sound cards such as the Roland MT32 and General Midi sound cards after that but sound effects were horrible. Also, the sound would be completely different depending on whether you were using a Roland MT32 or a General Midi standardized sound card and games were not always compatible with those. Some PC games even resorted to using two sound cards at the same time but not many were and it was so expensive and such a hassle just to obtain some decent sound.
"Graphics: MD=PC" No, the Genesis version looks worse, it looks like a SNES game, with stretched graphics because it runs in the Genesis low resolution mode which is the same as SNES default resolution: 256x224. Most others Genesis games looks much better because they run in 320x224. "Cheap : MD>PC" lol, "cheap", liked that part :D and it's true, the Genesis was released in 1988 so by the time this game came out, a Genesis might only cost $100-150 vs some $1000 PC :) Anyway overall PC wins here.
Wait, what? o_0 if anything I would choose a Genesis over a PC or any other computers of that time but that's not even the question, the question is: did you even read my post? And what is wrong then?
Because it's one of the 10% Genesis games which run in the system's low resolution mode, 256x224, which is actually the same resolution as SNES default resolution which means that SNES games always look like crushed pancakes :)

Замечательная игра, замечательный саундтрек, я часто играл на работе родителей и на уроке информатики в школе. Более 25 лет назад.

Impossible to beat? I didn't know that. Why is it so?
Very cool video. I have the PC MS-DOS version of the game. Thanks for posting.

Wow. These are surprisingly similar! I like this latest batch of comparisons. They're not the usual done-to-death fare!
MS-DOS wins on every level.
Except Genesis is faster.

MS-DOS version all the way 😆 it's very similar looking to Super Nintendo graphics but better
MrDmoney156 That's muuuuuch better then snes
port decente do Mega mas o PC... Wins!
lol, why does the tire screeching on the PC version sound like an angry chimp?
Amiga better ;)
The Amiga A1000 could run this game and it was released in 1985. Would have been nice to do a 4 way comparison Amiga, ST, PC and Genesis/Megadrive.
Just so you know, the Mega Drive is basically a stripped-down System 16, a Sega arcade board released in 1985 and which also served as inspiration for Capcom's CPS-1 arcade board or the Neo Geo and the Mega Drive is already more powerful than the Amiga so imagine the System 16 ;)

Versão rápida e decente do mega drive. E bem mais difícil
Reminds of me Chase HQ. OOOOHHH!!! Do a Side by Side of Chase HQ!

Megadrive wins Lotus Esprit turbo SE > Esprit S4
To me Genesis sounds better and the road on it looks better so it wins!
WTF???? Man... you must stop the Milk overdose. Throw that feeding bottle and catch a gamepad...

To me Genesis is running faster. You can tell especially by how fast the tunnel comes at you
AMIAG 500 was the best game play.
I swear the Genesis version doesn't exist... can't find anything about it anywhere else
Because it's called Lotus II RECS on the Genesis instead of Lotus III but it's the same game.
PC wins. Better color, better scaling, better resolution.
I think it's 320x200 vs. 256x224 (one of the few Mega Drive games not in 320 mode). So, you gain width but lose height with the PC version.
Stephan Dolby the resolution Of pc version is 320 x 240... so you loose everywere on megadrive version
Are you sure? I remember most games in MCGA/VGA 256 color mode used 320x200
It's 320x200. That's the standard VGA mode 13h. 320x240 was not VGA.
MSDOS beats all other versions.
Game sound on pc is epic! On sega genesis sounds horrible !
The Amiga version beats both :-)
Jogão, empate.
o de ms dos ganha, po

bullshit. More definition >>> Interlaced
Eddie Xavier
It's fine as soon as you get into 640x480 territory but it looks like utter shit when you're in the 320x200 range.
el mismo juego pero con diferente nombre segun plataforma
DOS version in the clear winner, no questions! However in the sound department, both versions sound like shit.

You either misread or misunderstood Yohko M. but she's spot on.
What's up with those annoying tire squealing sounds on PC. Man those are annoying.
Car and road looks better on genny.
Why the Genesys graphics looks like a crushed pancake... :D
Because it's one of the 10% Genesis games which run in the system's low resolution mode, 256x224, which is actually the same resolution as SNES default resolution which means that SNES games always look like crushed pancakes :)
Most others Genesis games run either in 30x224 or 320x240.

E o Mega Drive perdeu mais uma vez, meu deus, q saco de pancadas.
Teu cú!
Genesis wins because Fuck PC Sega is Master Race!!!!
Cara, parece o mesmo motor gráfico usado no top gear do snes.
Thiago Loureiro eh o mesmo jogo pr baixo
