    To sum it up: Overwatch 2 is watered down and made far easier for new players to pick up, but as a result the characters lost most of their identity and uniqueness. No off tank also makes the fights more one dimensional and allows for less variety, playmaking, and coordination in teamfights.

Even if you do so successfully it's just not in the slightest bit fun to deal with constantly. Especially with only 1 tank you can't ALWAYS be on alert for her when you have other responsibilities. Whereas with 2 tanks the off tank can balance focus between frontline and peeling more freely.

    Also: I can not get over the fact that they removed SO MANY features. The levelling system (I had a frickin diamond portrait that was just ripped away from me for good after grinding thousands of of hours for it), the LFG feature that was removed for new reason, the ability to unlock stuff without paying real money for it, 2CP (yeah it sucked but the maps were kinda cool)...

As time has gone on, I’ve begun to miss 6v6 more and more despite wanting to hold out hope that 5v5 was the right direction. Having all of these character designed in a 6v6 environment means that they have to be stretched and contorted to fit 5v5. It’s resulted in the loss of tactical counter play and heroes’ identities. Don't have a source for this, but I'm pretty sure the developers said that they are intentionally making heroes more homogenous so that they are all equally viable at all times. This is why all new supports can 1v1 dps and all new tanks are more brawlers than about controlling space

      They said that before 2 came out. But you've completely changed the wording.
      They said they weren't going to make it about counters so that players can play the hero they want, because that's how most people played. They then went back on that, saying that removing counters took away too much of certain character's identities.

    What's great about the Engineer is that he has 2 separate play styles. The defensive lvl 3 sentry or the offensive/aggressive mini sentry
    What's even funnier is that he hit the nail on the head. Most people don't use the shotgun. They use the Rescue Ranger for their level 3 sentries instead of the shotgun cause it prioritizes the sentry and does less damage to people than any other shotgun.

    To me the craziest set of design decisions is the combo of making everything less vulnerable to interruption while also removing most ways to interrupt. Like I get stun spam was bad, but why then if we've already removed like half of the stuns in the game do we ALSO need whole hog to persist through stuns, or Moira fade mid coal, or give Mauga's movement/stun ability a cc immunity as well? Suzu is stronger as a purple cleanse and damage negation than it is as a stun remover, which just blends its identity with Bap's lamp. No way that would be true in OW1

  • @boylwo4175
    @boylwo4175 4 месяца назад +2

    I feel like tank synergy was the most complex and fun part of ow1. Your comp and playstyle was defined by the tank duo. Its kinda understandable why they would remove it, after all loading in with a comp like zarya/dva was pretty much a guaranteed loss back in the day, but I think it's undeniable that no other roles could complement each other as well as 2 tanks. Removing a tank just makes the game far more simple, all for the purpose of making kills easier to get and healing easier to do
    One less tank also arguably encourages counter swapping more. Back in the day, you could force something like rein/dva and have a pretty decent matchup against anything including annoying fliers like pharah, whereas nowadays you could far more easily counter rein in a way where he cant really do anything but swap

      I remember this fondly, and being able to pick whatever character was best suited to fill whatever void your team had in ow1 felt so much more impactful than being locked in one role in ow2, where in ow2 say if you're dps and you don't receive heals versus enemy DPS that have a pocketed mercy or you're playing healer and there's a huge disparity in tank skill and your tank doesn't know how to position or pressure it feels like you have much less impact compared to how it used to be. Instant queues were great, and I remember being able to climb easily from calibrating plat s2 ow1 to climbing to masters the same season, staying as GM until around s9 when I stopped playing. Even playing with streamers, I remember picking last to fill whatever role was needed and ster just silently looking at my profile and saying "yeah, makes sense this guy's top two most played are ana and rein lol." Maybe it was rose tinted glasses as well, but it was a very fun game to play up until around season 6 or 7 when ow1 was on its decline.

      Also re-commenting to myself that having modern open queue is not the same as when it was the only option, as the game is balanced and intended around a strict meta around role queue, where the balancing for open queue is not the intended balance for ow2 and feels like a weird overwatch arcade and it feeling like the queue system nobody gives any regard for. Just look at any overwatch media nowadays, nobody talks about open queue because nobody cares about open queue because the game is designed around role queue.

    Most DPS heroes now are similar to each other when it comes to ability design and while the all differences between them matter in high-level play, to the average player half the DPS cast is all just what kind of gun you want to shoot. Heroes used to be much more exciting than that. Like compare the old builder heroes, old Doom and pre-rework Sombra, all so vastly different from each other. Tank and support roles have more uniqueness to them though imo (Winston vs. Doom comparison fair tho)

    The way they keep shifting balance towards easy-bail options to compensate for objectively bad plays and bad game knowledge, is crazy. They think they make the game more approachable and easy, when in fact they just make it more abusable and tedious and bland.
    I'm a long-time Pharah main, and the last thing I'd want for that hero is to have her ultimate being cancellable. If they ever make it cancellable, that's my clear sign the game has gone off the cliff. Yes most Pharah players die while using it, and that's a damn good thing because it's both a skill check and a risk check relative to its value potential. High risk high reward is what creates nuance and counterplay. The more you lower risk, the more mellowed out everything becomes, the more hero overlap you get, because what sets apart heroes isn't just their strengths - in reality it's their weaknesses that make them unique. How can other players interact with you? That's what makes your character unique, because it means you have to play around this weakness and develop hero-centric playstyles that don't just easily transfer to any other hero. And if they straight up can't interact with you, if nobody can interact with each other due to bs immos and low-risk abilities everywhere, then whats even the bloody point.
    Haven't seen a multiplayer fps dev team fumble as hard and as consistently, as the OW Team 4 does.

  • @blinkachu5275
    @blinkachu5275 4 месяца назад

    Exactly what I've been saying
    Balance is all about risk/reward. That's key to making characters that are fair. Tracer hasn't changed much luckily in that respect and is the perfect example of a high risk, high reward hero. She can get one shot by like 70% of the crew but with her mobility and damage she can be exceptional in the right hands.
    Overwatch has forgotten about risk/reward. Every hero needs an escape, every hero needs "sustain", every hero needs a button press ability that does tons of damage with minimal effort. It feels so much less interesting to play now. The changes to Reaper and Genji are very good examples like you mentioned. Canceling deflect/teleport is such a dumb thing. It's a high reward ability if used right, why remove the risk of using it? Same with Hog's vape, Reinhardt's charge like you said. Same with Sombra's invis that just auto-enables now, you don't even need to press a button for it and it automatically starts after teleporting as well.
    I genuinely hope new management by Microsoft brings some new blood to the team that have better ideas. A lot of people are like "don't blame the devs, it was Kotick" but the devs still are the ones that decide the balance. And they've ruined Overwatch slowly but surely.

I remember a match that my cousin and i were being destroyed, then we both switched to dps and healer, and the rest of the team adapted to it. we won a match that was probably my highest kill match ever, all because something wasn't working and we fixed it. I will say that CC made the game more unique and requiered more skill to play around, stuff like McCree tracer was such an interesting fight, of baiting the CC to win easily, or delaying it to bait recall, now however dodging flash is nearly impossible because it just follows you, so even though you "dodge" it the game says no and you either cleanse it or you're doomed
    Now i 1 billion % understand it was not fun for tanks, they were too easy to CC, and was very stressful as you wouldnt take 1 CC and die, instead you took like 5, CC needed tune down against tanks, and maybe balance so that 5 heroes with CC wouldn't synergize well with each other, but the lack of CC did make the game just too simple IMO
    The value no longer comes from plays, stopping someone temporarily, wasting cooldowns, instead you either kill or you don't, nothing really provides as much value as kill, specially if you get the other tank down

    That’s thanks to the player base like mercy players …rather than understanding one character will never be the best in every situation everyone complains how nothing is balanced at all (some hero’s were geniality broken) or roles like support where it was way hated in OW1 to get value . Now everything feels almost the same and not unique at all

    i just wanted to point out i had watched this thru samito but i came here to like the video and comment, but not only ow2 but even games like ff14 they are simplifying and making similar the jobs design and having like a 2 min meta. like idk if all video games are going thru this but it might be to cater in thier mind the the majority who suck at the game and arnt will to understand the nuiances of characters and what they should and shouldt do. I.E. zen glass cannon before the kick at 200 hp. like overall this is going to be pretty much the thing that makes a video game not as ground breaking as old games but playable so more people get into it. everyone has an escape and op ability like chipsa said basically

    I think the rein charge change was fine. Charge was far too easy to punish for only the chance of getting one person and most of the time your team gets left behind.
    Hog example is perfect, everything about him has been changed to be made easier to fit the meta and the 5v5 format.

    I want 6v6 back
    More Teamplay, Synergy and it allows for more Tanks to be played because they can somewhat cover each others weaknesses.
    Also less Counterswaps, Supports could be nerfed down because youd have another Tank again and when the Supports are nerfed and would (hopefully) have less invuls or dumb AoE heals it would feel much better.
    2x Shield wouldnt even be a problem with Orisa reworked and with the overall shield nerfs, and they reduced lots of CC (Sombras Hack from 5s -> 1.5s, Mei freeze from fully frozen to just a slow, etc.) which would have improved 6v6 aswell.
    Idk, 6v6 just had more depth and a more fun skill curve, OW2 is so watered down you can win by counterswapping or pressing 1 Cooldown on Support, its just so boring.

    I'd like to amend the reason people fell in love with Overwatch 1, specifically late 2016 OW1, around after Ana released. It's because it felt a lot more like an arena shooter, rather than the MOBA-spam and heal simulator that it is today. Consider that in open queue you almost never saw more that 2 tanks and healers on your team, the most amount of healing you had was mercy + ana at about 140 hp/s. That's less that Illiari could do by herself when she released, and it was also all single target. The only thing that made things like triple tank viable back then was the ridiculous amount of extra healing that nade provided. Not to mention Ana only had 10 shots in her rifle and a longer reload, and it really made the game feel like every 1v1 in the match was high stakes, even when fighting a tank. There were few if any get out of jail free cards, and those that existed were usually support ults. Heroes that were easier to play were generally not as viable as those with a higher skill floor and ceiling. For example Junkrat used to damage himself with his explosions and he only had one concussion mine. Hell, even nano boost didn't used to heal back then.

      Tell me you didn't watch the video without telling you watch the video. This is just rude for no reason. He brought Doom once, and he only did because Doom is Winston 2.0, he never brought up his relevancy(probably because he doesn't care), and the only "cope" is comparing the game to tf2 but even than that is a fair comparison. One has good gameplay, and it didn't have to change its entire format just to be considered "better," and every character is unique to each other. The only one coping here is you.

    they are just copying and pasting the core gameplay of league of legends. Every champion in the league is basically sitting in a specific role but performs different functions(higher or less dmg/More or less cc, etc.). Basically every season the designers are setting some OP champions as anchors and buff ops counter pick or nerf the OP's item. It makes every single champion within the same role are basically the same.

    The homogenization of the heroes is one of the biggest complaints ive had about overwatch for years now. The changes they made to torb and sym was enough already, but it became impossible to ignore when they turned bastion into a soldier 76 clone with ow2. The game isn't about strategy anymore. Its just death match with extra steps. Most heroes dont have identifiable strengths and weaknesses anymore. You can approach pretty much any map, game mode, and team fight the same way. Just be better at aiming and positioning than the enemy team and you win.

      Nothing to do with skill, only skill involved was ow1 pre double shield and pre-goats then they changed the game from Fps to "super smash meele" then released ow2 and made everything broken to compensate for it and now it's an abomination, every new character they release is 2 times stronger than the previous (it only doesn't stand for wifeleaver) it's the same reason we step into the double shield meta, Sigma was just too strong with his peels on release then people figured out you stick an Orisa next to him and you have endless shields/flux/orisa golden on repeat.

    • @Senarak
      @Senarak 4 месяца назад

      @Exknight2 What I meant was, if you're good enough at a hero you can make it work in most situations. For example, I main Genji, and there are times I've made Pharahs swap to non-aerial from how many times I'd killed them or their Mercy.

    • @Exknight2
      @Exknight2 4 месяца назад

      @@Senarak I mean that stands since ow1, you can pulsebomb a pharah midair for example but now the difference is you have supports that do more dmg than dps while healing at the same time, a good example is kiriko, kiriko can carry a fight easier than any other character, cause it's easy to dink and you only need 2 shots for a kill, you can tp and climb walls you have suzu as well plus hitbox wise shes the most annoying character to deal with (A/D dodging etc) kinda like ana A/D which makes weird movement to the eye but kiri's is even better.

    • @Senarak
      @Senarak 4 месяца назад

      @Exknight2 Well yeah thats just meta creep. Every OW2 hero released so far has been busted in comparison to the rest of the roster except for JQ and Illari who were giga-nerfed out of meta.
