I did this or some very similar firmware upgrade to two cameras back when this video first came out and they seemed to work just fine until . . . Until one day I took my entire security system off-line for several months. When I brought my system back on-line, all my Hikvision and Reotek cameras powered right back up as if nothing had happened, while both of my Amcrest/Dahua cameras now seem to be bricked. No matter what I’ve tried, I can’t seem to get an IP on them. Factory resets don’t help either.

    Awesome video, thanks for sharing.
I have those exact cameras and found an annoying bug in amcrest firmware. You can't flip the video 90° when resolution is set to the highest possible setting. It throws an error. I wander if that has been fixed in Dahua firmware. I have a couple of cameras mounted vertically but can't use them in full resolution.

Well, I flashed the dahua firmware on my camera and the issue is still there. There is a newer firmware for that camera that I tried as well, doesn't look like they wanted to fix it I guess. And unfortunately this camera has been discontinued by both companies, so don't expect any more firmware releases.

Sadly in my case HX1XXX-Eos - the amcrest firmware is 2017, and dahua is 2016. Firmware upgrade worked and kept my login credentials it was pretty much identical - just new badging. Going to switch back to amcrest if I can. Sadly IP2M is super duper deprecated despite being really high quality video.

Nice find. I recently purchased few of these cameras and upgraded to the newest FW. With the new FW (same number but different build date) I no longer need to install the plugin just like you said but many of the features that are in the bottom left and top right of the UI are missing now. IE is no longer supported and if I try to log with IE in it show a message saying to use Chrome. But this is interesting that a Dahua FW can be used. Did you try and revert back to the Amcrest FW?

Flashing Dahua firmware onto Amcrest cameras has been hit and miss, but I've never bricked a device - your mileage may vary.
I can confirm that both the IP8M-T2499EW and IP3M-954E are Dahua cameras and both models work just fine with the Dahua firmware. I believe the IP3M-954E has been EOL'ed though.

I have a bunch of IP8M-2493ew after watching your video I searched the same way, I was in the newest version of amcrest's firmware but I flashed the same V2.800.0000014.0.R, Build Date: 2019-12-03 Dahua firmware, it installs, the new logon screen does not say Dahua OR amcrest now the new web interface has the Smart config features and the event tab has the special added features. The odd thing is it will not let me flash the Amcrest version back after this upgrade. I will mess with one camera first before I do it again to the others just in case I have bricked this one.

Hi there, So I was able to update my Amcrest to Dahua software but I am noticing that if I am not connected to my WiFi, I am unable to view the camera remotely (Amcrest / Dahua app). Do you have this same issue? Do you have a work around? I am also looking VMS that allows to view the cameras on a computer but saved to SD Card. Any recommendations for a particular software? Thank you.

Once the Dahua firmware is installed, is there a way to go back to the Amcrest firmware? Reason I ask is with the Amcrest fw the videos uploaded to FTP are MP4 format, however with the Dahua fw the video format is DAV and I prefer MP4 over DAV. I tried to revert back to the Amcrest fw but it would not complete the process.

To be perfectly honest, I haven't spent much time testing things out or using the new features since switching from the Amcrest to Dahua firmware. Haven't tried the mobile app since then either.
I have all of my cameras configured to save their footage to a computer on my network that runs 24/7... I believe I use the SMB protocol. It works fairly well and doesn't require additional hardware. The big downside to this approach is there doesn't appear to be a way to play footage saved to a local network server from the mobile app.

Hi Joe, I am so glad you did this video and I found it :) I did not realize that Amcrest IP8M-2493E camera do not have the advanced motion detection and was getting a lot of false alarms. I am planning on trying the new Dahua firmware's motion detection. I hope this works. Also after I made the update, my web browser to view the camera still says Amcrest and not Dahua, but the advanced features are there Do you (or anyone) have any thoughts on why this is? Also have you or anyone used the Dahua app? Thank you.

Thanks for the complement! It may work on other cameras as well. It depends what the "real" model number of the camera is and if it falls under Dahua's smart camera series. I'm a bit concerned with all of the bad press Dahua and Hikvision have been getting recently and if that is stunting innovation at these companies.

Thank you for great insight! This is really cool work you did. Unfortunately it did not work for me and I wanted to ask if you have any idea if anything can be done. You probably encountered something similar at your experiments :) Basically the update has stuck on the first 1 and 1/4 box, for a long time (20 min or so). I rebooted the cam (stupid, I know). Now it seems it doesn't start - I can not find it in the list of active devices (even though the link light on the switch is blinking). I tried restoring it to factory defaults, but no help. Do you know if there's any way to unbrick it? Maybe force the flash of original firmware?

I believe there is a procedure to recoveer it via TFTP. I have never had to do that before but I remember reading something about that in the Dahua documentation. Tried doing a search for Dahua TFTP recovery. If you can't find it let me know and I'll see if I can dig it up for you
