A little thing, but the A is actually for "Alternate", not "Assistant", really. The reason for having Alternates, (usually always two), is if the Captain is in the penalty box, on the bench, injured etc., an A takes over the duties of a team's Captain. There is more to being a Captain of course, but one technicality, is he is supposed to be the only player representing the team on the ice, permitted to discuss/communicate with the Referees during play, as far as the rule book states. Mostly it's just about penalties and/or goals either missed or called. All players talk and chirp at the refs, and the Coaches are always screaming lol, but in theory the Captain has the top respect by all those involved. "Horny" is the player Patrick Hornqvist's nick name by his teammates. Probably 99 % of all players are given 1 or 2 syllable nick names, some make sense based on their name, others are just made up based on personality. Ovechkin = Ovi, for example.
