Old aviation is just like a food item that expires, we are seeing it less and won’t be able to see it for any longer, the Boeing 707 was a REAL plane💪
Yeaaah, no… a “real” plane isn’t a completely inefficient, unsafe and costly one, which explains why we don’t see them much anymore; beautiful planes for sure but not useful anymore

2. Even land at Saba and you'll still stop in time
3. So many people in a singular plane at a small airport

Fun fact, the 727 and 737 fuselage was designed based off of the 707, slightly adjusted and shortened to fit short runway use etc.

Hey Swiss!!! I love your videos!
I really love these obscure variants of successful aircraft. Luckily I’ve known about this aircraft for a while and is a great classic jet.
Compared to a lot of other unsuccessful variants, I feel this one was more successful than aircraft such as the 747SP, 747-300, 767-400, A318, & of course the OG 757 Combi.
Definitely a cool aircraft that I’m glad was produced and had some success!

that was useful, I didn’t know much about the b720
that 707 model in the beginning was a little annoying because it had 4 turbocompressors ( the little holes on the front of the engine pylons) when in real life the 707 only had 3.

Hey from Dundee, the sunniest city in Scotland....ahem. I see lots of planes on approach to the airport from my office, and sadly no 720a yet. But I'll keep hoping!
And I'm not sure I'd call the 720 a failure if you consider its main tasks were to screw over Convair and keep everyone Boeing-loyal until the 727 and 737 came on stream ;)

The 720 should have been the 707-020, but thanks to United not wanting the Douglas DC-8 to be seen as inferior (since they had the DC-8 and forsaken the 707), they asked Boeing to rename the plane - hence the 720.

@@Swiss001 It has a working coffee machine in the cabin! :)) (also the fasten seatbelts and non smoking lights are fully functional in the cabin). Not to mention many small details and AMAZING sound out of the box. :)) The cockpit, cabin and exterior detail can be compared to MSFS, even FENIX I guess.

The 720 really was great but it only failed because who needed it? The 707 was preferred over the 720 because the 707 had more range which airlines wanted instead of the 720 with a shorter range which most airlines back then had more aircrafts suited for domestic flights. Sure it had good short takeoff capability but let's be real, who's flying it to these short runways, also Swiss bullied poor 720 so it could land at these runways which is why it was able to stop. It would overrun easily if it were to land at these ABSOLUTELY INHUMANE runways in real life.
Also those who bought it were too broke to afford the proper 707 I guess.
737 did the job of medium range plane very well…
