Clown is directed by Jon Watts would later direct the entire Spiderman MCU trilogy. Honestly hilarious how many horror directors have gone on to make superhero movies.
If Flo hadn't been cast in Don't Worry Darling it would have been a 1 star movie tbh... she's that good. I liked Gemma Chan in it when she was around, but Flo is a film saver.

Hi!! I want that hoodie, Emma…I have a feeling it’s a new hoodie from your merch!!! 🎉 As usual, I trust your recommendations implicitly! Your tastes are so similar to mine! Have a fantabulous day!! 😊

So excited for the Oct VOD video! Those are my official watchlist guides for every month. Thank you for taking the time to do all that you do, Emma. Your fans appreciate you!
Fun fact (might have been mentioned before in the comments but didn't find it through scrolling): Heartbreak High was also immensely popular in the Netherlands, it was HUGE. Almost everyone in their late 20's/early 30's knows about the show. We co-petitioned with the Australians for ages to bring the show back and now that it's finally here it feels like a little victory. I love the reboot, they kept the spirit alive. Nothing beats the original but this is very nicely done!
I followed you on letterboxd on my own just browsing the app and i was a bit starstruck when you followed back, thank you emma. I loved a lot of september films due to your recommendations and older videos. Speak No Evil and Dashcam are near perfect films you have recommended
The most terrifying movie I watch this month was Soft Quiet…. I went in totally blind, not knowing a thing about this movie. It’s a very simple movie and very realistic. I think that was what was so terrifying about it. I can’t give too much away but it was about a group of every day women. And it was horrifying.
And check out this list , in order, and in hindsight, the Universe put these perfectly in order in which I saw them 1. Prevenge 2. Hounds of Love 3. The House that Jack Built 4. Snowtown Murders 5. Mandy Each one excellent filmmaking!!! It was an amazing day of movie watching. And I couldn’t really recommend 3 of them😂!!
@@leonbeale5431 Hounds of Love is among my favorite-ever Australian films, about an abduction. That's all you need to know, and otherwise don't watch a trailer. Raw, really well acted.
@@reeldeal3227 Thanks RD. I looked at the trailer a while back and realised that I knew the story. I'd watched it in a true crime documentary a few years ago and the events were truly horrifying. That's why it has been in my watch later list. Guess it's time to suck it up and have a look!
If you like Below Deck be sure to check out the movie Triangle Of Sadness coming out in December! But DO NOT WATCH THE TRAILER as it spoils the entire film. My favourite film at MIFF this year, such a dark comedy.
I don't catch all your videos so it might be something you have talked about but if you haven't watched orphan black you should, there's a spinoff coming out soon with Kristen Ritter.
Thanks very much for sharing your list with us, Emma. I've still got to see Barbarian, Don't Worry Darling and Bodies, Bodies, Bodies. I did see a bunch of horror/thrillers during the month, but very few to rave about. However, here are a couple of highlights: SEE HOW THEY RUN (2022) - score 9/10. For the Agatha Christie fan in me, this film was wonderful. Definitely worth seeing for anyone who loves a whodunnit comedy. FEAR STRIKES OUT (1957) - score 7/10. One of the first films to deal with mental illness, based on a true story. Anthony Perkins and Karl Malden both give great performances. CURSE OF THE BLACK WIDOW (1977) - score 7/10. A TV movie directed by Dan Curtis (of Night Stalker fame). A good plot hampered by some dated special effects; it is just a lot of fun to watch.
Speaking of Lars Van Trier, have you reviewed “The House that Jack Built” ? I told my editor that I can’t comfortably recommend it to anyone, but I thought it was a masterpiece in filmmaking.
@@sjs7917 yeah , I haven’t seen a few of his movies, because I joke that one needs a shower after his films, but HTJB, was dark , of course, but dark funny ( on purpose ), and awesome use of “Fame”, by David Bowie, through out, just when a break is needed. I am always excited to see your month's wrap up! I'm surprised you haven't review Allegoria yet... I thought it was just absolutely thrilling and enjoyable.
I had to watch the Netflix series about Lori Daybell after this bc I was surprised you used the term “lured” (into a cult) to describe her situation and I couldn’t disagree more, she was so manipulative! Really great documentary, and recommendation though! Thank you!
Thank Emma - watched much the same stuff as you (given I often follow your lead). You know House of Darkness feels a little under-rated to me. I put it near the top with Pearl and Barbarian. That movie is bloody hilarious. I've never seen a horror movie where it is so obvious to the viewer where it is headed - yet he is so intent on his mission, that he battles on, impervious. What an amazing portrayal of a type of guy that is not uncommon. I couldn't stop laughing. Also, I wonder about Pearl. Magnificent movie, but how would we feel about it if it wasn't Mia Goth acting in this? Half the time I was just watching Mia Goth's amazing acting. Anyway hanging out for Terrifier 2. IMO Art the Clown resides in the same Pantheon as Jason, Freddy, Pinhead etc. Stay spooky.
if you came away from Dogville appreciating LVT a bit more, "Manderlay" with Bryce Dallas Howard, is VERY much done in a similar style. i believe there was a third film he'd hoped to make as a "bare play trilogy", but i think that fell through.
Not a bad month for movies and new TV. Always enjoy your monthly recaps. Best movie I saw this month was Fall and best TV series was Monster. The Jeffery Dahlmer Story. Looking forward to October.
