Yes indeed, that is one of those meta call type things. If you play at a chill level where people still let each other play the game, then you should take it easy. If everyone is just playing super mean or powerful decks, screw it, board wipe tribal.
Idk, if this is said in the vid but this is companionable with zirda, I know companion kinda sucks now but every other boros commander that could companion with zirda didnt care about equipment but now we have a commander that does with an activated ability
here it is :D edit: i will build her, as i enjoy equipments and all my commanders seem to have the three fabled words "draw a card" on them... think tatyova, niv mizzet parun and now akiri :D
I built my Akiri, Fearless Voyager deck with her as the commander and both warrior / equipment tribal. Most creatures are very low cmc creatures with equipment or warrior based effects that just has overlapping value dispersed amongst a growing board so w/o a wipe, it makes it really difficult to discern what's the biggest problem? The card value? The attack value? the protections? what's the worst part about whats coming at the opponent? Well simple. ALL OF IT! Boros victory!
I love it. I can't believe I missed it early on, but it turns out 2 of my favorite pet cards are incredible with Akiri. That would be Palisade Giant and Protector of the Crown. Make them indestructible and damage is no longer a thing you care about :)
I want to build a kor tribal with equipment as secondary with this. We have red/white kor and a black/white kor. I would love to see some mono black and mono red kor creatures. Possibly a mardu kor legendary or a black/white kor legendary that can partner with the older Akiri.
@@CommanderReplay I am 100% using the arcbond combo. It seems so secret and powerful, and your commander covers the indestructible part too! And its only like a 5 mana combo if you draw it! after that its gonna be things like Gisela and aurelia on the top end. Adriana seems really good as another incentive to attack multiple people.
Absolutely love it! The only thing that makes me sad about Akiri is that her stat line doesn't allow her to be found by either Recruiter when she's in the 99, but that's probably for the better if Voltron is the strategy for her own deck. I'm definitely gonna try out Winota in the deck, putting some spicy humans that care about equipment in there. Jor Kadeen will be sweet!
Glad you like it. One thing, you'll want a few pain lands, and a sulfurous blast or an abrade to make sure you can get some damage to start the cycle. Just posted some gameplay with this deck today, check that out if you like also.
I am concerned about Akiri's and extra white mana stuff. Using a wrath + akiri's ability is already 3 white mana. I think the mana bases will be important on how strong the new akiri will be. the boros filter land may be one of the best lands for this deck. For the same reason i don't think deathless angel will be that good even with white heavier mana bases. On one hand i think that akiri works well with all the little equipments like prying blade and infiltration lens but akiri with a lens is still only a 3/3 (or 4/3) and draws a card once it attacks. It doesn't look threatening even if it is hard to kill. but maybe it is one of the upsides of this deck, that it will look too harmless until it is too late. I am curious on how akiri will turn out and if there will be different types on how to build him. The new Nahiri, Heir of the Ancients may be even not that bad in akiri or self equipping equipments like Grifter's Blade or sai of the shinobi. I won't play prophetic flamespeaker. It is like this card always manages to disappoint me. 1/3 is not that good and the card needs to be played on the same turn. Angelic guardian reminds me of Stonehoof Chieftain. Never new this card existed. Looks very interesting. Certainly gonna buy one of these soon.
This is an excellent voltron card but I came to the same conclusion as you with it being better in the 99. My current voltron commander is Aurelia, the Warleader and though Akiri has a much better engine, she isn't nearly as good at ending the game. Still, I think I'll be testing a lot with this one. Aurelia may have the higher ceiling but Akiri (who draws, protects your board AND costs half the mana) has a much higher floor.
Yeah I agree. Aurelia is like one of the single best finishers out of the command zone, so that will always be hard to compete with. But yes Akiri is going to have the much better early game. As I started working on my list, I was realizing that it feels more like a combo deck than pure aggro. Cant wait to try it out, and see how it measures up against expectations.

Ive played with most of the cards i recommend cutting and they've generally been outclassed by new things lately which is my reasoning. Winter or Armageddon are safer than giant. Angel of the Dire hour is a lot of mana to hold up, but when its good its really good. Trying to keep a lot of cards functionally similar heres what I would add: comeuppance, rout, magma quake, blasphemous act, winter orb (instead of desolation giant) or armageddon if thats more your speed, add a land maybe 2, boros charm, faiths shield (wild ricochet personal preference) thran dynamo. id also keep kor cartographer, its very reasonable. Id look to add 1 or 2 cards that find lands like gift of estates, land tax, tithe, boreas charger, or thauamatic compass. Chaos warp and generous gift are also incredible even more so with sun forger. Basically instead the tap shenanigans and/or the retaliate type of effects you want to prevent the damage up front with cards like comeuppance and settle so that your life total stays high.
@@CommanderReplay thanx think I'll pull spear of heliod and retaliate, for nahiri and puresteel, I like desolation giant, cause its wrath on a body so if it works I have a creature and no one else does
Definitely excited for Akiri, but I feel it just fits better into the 99. Having a win con like Aurelia or Gisela in the command zone is just too good to replace.
Better is relative. Akiri has better early game and better draw, better for fast metas where a low creature count and a high number of cheap interactive spells is key. Aurelia’s early game is less consistent but she’s an incredible late game commander she can make just about anything lethal. Just depends on what you need or prefer.
I have been looking at boros commanders for a while but have not built one yet. I have been hesitant mostly because I have been building other decks and boros always seems more daunting with the reputation it has for being weaker. After finding this channel, I know that reputation is not as deserved as some would have me believe. I have been attracted to two different build lines when it comes to boros and I am interested how others might go about building them. The build lines are probably best categorized as an Anax and Cymede deck with a feather sleeper commander and the other which I have been looking at longer is probably a Tiana, Ship's Caretaker good stuff. Tiana I think would be the more interesting but I have trouble balancing the build, I feel like it needs to have more of a plan than just "good stuff". I have cards like Sram, Kemba, Teshar, Valduk, Embercleave, the older Akiri(which works well with my Mycosynth Lattice), and quite a few others that fit the atifiacts, auras, and equipment theme sitting in my binders and waiting for a home and that is where the idea came from. This Akiri sounds like it would make for a great piece in that build but honestly right now i would probably just have it added to my massive "maybe board" at least until i finally build or find a list I like.
Boros definitely takes more trial and error, but luckily ive taken care of a lot of that for you :) So heres what ill say regarding Boros Commanders. The best and most powerful boros commanders are Winota, Zirda, Aurelia, Gerrard, Gisela, Feather and Akiri/Bruse. There are then a lot of mid tier Boros commanders that are reasonable, and then a few that I would avoid unless you are a glutton for punishment. I would personally place Tiana and Anax at the lower end of the reasonable category. They arent useless, but they wont give you what many others will. Against the Golos and The Yaroks of the world you may find them lack luster since it just takes more cards to really get them going. Now I will say that I havent played Anax in a very long time and I know that red has gotten some realy good token producers the past few years like Legion War Boss, Goblin Rabblemaster and Loyal Apprentice, but in general once you start putting a lot of creatures on the board anyone with a board wipe in hand is gonna get real excited to use it, so having a lot of protection will be important. It could make more sense to make a similar build with Feather in the command zone, but Anax as the hidden...You'll need to test through that. But a lot of this will depend on what your meta looks like, but in general its gotten much harder to build up a large board state and slam it through your opponents. Tiana's main choice is going auras or going equipments. Equipment on flying creatures is generally good, just that i think Tiana gives you a little less than some of the other fliers, but its not awful. Ive been meaning to do a video ranking the Boros commanders, maybe i'll get there soon. Hope this helps :)
@@CommanderReplay Definitely helps. The Anax and feather deck was the one I was more iffy on, not having feather in the command zone makes it much harder to rely on her for card advantage. In Tiana I guess I was looking at her and seeing a version of feather but instead of cantrips and instants I was seeing auras and equipment, and her getting a form of card advantage by bringing those cards back to hand. There might be something playable in that I can pull out but I'll keep my expectations in mind. I have a few other decks that would probably stand up better against a Golos but I'm between playgroups at the moment and I honestly have no idea what the next meta I walk into will look like.
Its good, is it that pushed though? Its no tymna. It doesnt just immediately combo and win the game like some stuff that they have printing. I think its strong, but it doesnt raise any red flags from a power level concern.
