    Hi Peter, thanks for making these great videos, they've been very educational. I'm going through the initial install of my IOT 2040 right now and these have helped a lot!

    Hi Peter, this device looks cool. I'd like to see a MODBUS demo soon as the device in Master and Slave mode.

    Hello,
    First of all, thanks for the support you give to us.
    Is there a way to backup everything in case of a failure?
    Can I simply copy and paste the content of the SD card into a folder and paste it back in a new card?
    Is there any SD card imaging tool?
    Have a good day!

    Hi Peter, can you provide the link for the TTL cable on RS component web site please. I am not sure which one to choose. Have a good day!

      429-307
      uk.rs-online.com/web/search/searchBrowseAction.html?method=searchProducts&searchTerm=429-307&cm_mmc=uk-cartshare-_-link-_--_-14-11-16
      This is the UK RS Part but you should be able to get it for your region by searching using the RS Part number

      Thank you very much! I works with Siemens PLCs all day long and I can't wait to look further at IOT2040. I have a Sandisk 64Gb micro SD card. Do I absolutly need a 8-32Gb card?

      Nope, just a recommendation without getting too expensive. More is good if you need it. Good for logging etc

    This has been very helpful! , thank you so much for the efforts , however i was wondering if you could point me in the right direction on how to make use of an unmanaged ethernet switch to have my pc monitor an s7-1200 plc and run node red that's installed on the iot2040 as well as have my iot2040 communicate to the plc !

    • @TheBreadboardca
      @TheBreadboardca  3 года назад

      if you set them all with static IP addresses on the same subnet then that should allow them all to communicate with each other, so something like 192.168.1.4 192.168.1.5, 192.168.1.6 etc, if you have a DHCP server on your network then you can simply plug one port of the switch into that network and have all your devices plugged into the switch, they would all be capabable of running using DHCP in this case (Assuming your DHCP server (Usually the local router in most homes) has sufficient addresses to assign)

      @@TheBreadboardca I have an IOT2040, the problem is I couldn't get the eth0 port's IP address to change, I tried to do exactly what you did by changing eth0 to dhcp but after that the command ifdown eth0 seems to freeze and I lose connection, how can I fix that and get my eth0 port in the same range as my network which has the following subnet 192.168.1.xx

    • @TheBreadboardca
      @TheBreadboardca  3 года назад

      @@badreddineessahi6457 If i remember correctly, one of the ports on the 2040 is set to DHCP by default, the other has a fixed ip, it is possible that over the last 4 years the firmware has updated and the method of changing the IP has changed with it. try the other port with a default install first if you have not already

    Hi Peter,
    I'm following your guide videos as I get this thing setup for the first time. I created an image and booted the device up. How do I access the device for the first time? I tried to SSH to 192.168.200.1. Is there particular port? I tried default SSH port 22 and didn't get anything.
    EDIT:
    I did some more reading and understood more fully what the manual meant: " The Engineering Station has to be in the same subnet as the SIMATIC IOT2000 to establish a SSH connection!"
    I changed my IP address to 192.168.200.2 temporarily and was able to go in and change the /etc/interfaces file just like how you mentioned in the video :)
    Thanks Peter!

      run iot2000setup and it will let you set a few things easily, im working on a new video with version 2.1.3 of the firmware, should be out in a few days I hope

    Hmm, when I connect the TTL and run "sudo screen /dev/ttyUSB0 115200" , after powering up the device screen just remains blank and nothing happens. Could this be because of too little power or a faulty cable? I'm using a 12V 5A power supply.

    • @TheBreadboardca
      @TheBreadboardca  6 лет назад +1

      what is the TTL Serial adapter you are using, do you have a link to it. It needs to be a 3V3 version I believe (Mentioned in the video and the user guide if memory serves me correctly)
      Your supply seems like it should be ok
      What screen are you referring to, I have not used anything but a windows machine and Putty or TeraTerm as the clients so I cant answer to the use of a Linux / OSX client.

    • @WinterWeaver
      @WinterWeaver 6 лет назад

      Turns out it was a faulty cabel (2 of them!). I ordered a new one directly from rs-components and it's working now! To answer your other question, I'm using `screen` on linux.
      Now I have one final issue to sort out. I don't want to run the siemens version of linux. We need to run Ubuntu Snappy Core, so I need to get a custom image built for that.
      I've already posted in 3 different places, and hope to find a solution soon :)

      well the Siemens IOT2020 and 2000 is based on an Intel Galileo so you could also look under that platform, hope this helps

    Hi Peter, Great Video!! Do you know about the possibility that the IOT could work without the SD card?

    • @TheBreadboardca
      @TheBreadboardca  7 лет назад

      There is not enough flash on the board to hold a linux os and your apps, so unfortunately no.

    At first i'd like to say thank you for this very helpfull videos.
    I bought a IoT2020 and want to download the SD Card Image. After registration process i can login but not allowed to download the Software. I get this message.
    "You cannot download this file, since your registration inquiry is still being processed.
    Please note: due to the manual review, the registration may take several days.
    You will get a confirmation e-mail as soon as your download registration is finalized.
    You can download the software packages with export restrictions only when you have received the positive confirmation."
    Pretty disappointing. Any idea what to do ?

      I have passed on the fact their sign up is really torturous and that it should be addressed. For now though, the sign up is a 2 part process. 1 creating an account, 2. requesting access to software etc. by now I would like to hope you have access. Please let me know if not.

    Hi Peter, after modify the interfaces file and after ifdown-ifup eth0 i dont get a new address, im only getting:
    eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr E0:DC:A0:11:9A:38
    inet6 addr: fe80: :e2dc:a0ff:fe11:9a38%134535835/64 Scope:Link
    The row with the new address is missing, why this happen?
    Best regards

      Luis Salazar did you put in lower case dhcp. Not upper case. uppercase will not work.

    • @TheBreadboardca
      @TheBreadboardca  7 лет назад

      It should look like this (Or similar)
      # Wired interfaces
      auto eth0
      iface eth0 inet dhcp

      It's correct, I have exactly the same but this don't give me a new address, im planning to put a picture of puttyon the simatic iot2020 forum, there you can take a better look.
