  • Ronnie Brannan demos the Valeton Dapper Bass, utilizing all of its effects and tone shaping options in one song. This pedal is a great all-in-one solution for bassists looking to record or play live, with or without an amp. And it fits in your gig bag!
    The pedal's signal was taken directly from the XLR out, into an Apogee Duet 1st gen interface, then into Pro Tools. No further compression, EQ, or additional treatment was used. The Boost/Comp and Bass Amp sections remain on for the entire video.
    Effects and effect combos:
    0:30 - Dirty Q only
    0:59 - Chorus only
    1:56 - Dirty Q and Chorus
    2:52 - Octave only

    Pedal settings:

    Dirty Q Volume: 5 o’clock (max)
    Dirty Q Fuzz switch: off
    Bass Amp Volume: 1 o’clock
    Bass Amp Bass: 2 o’clock

    See, this is how a good gear demonstration is done. Nice tune, solid playing, no slapping and not constantly fiddling with settings. I will probably buy one of these off the back of this demo.

      Thank you Adam, I'm glad you found it helpful! I wanted to give a snapshot of what all the features could do when deployed in a full song situation. Cheers, and enjoy your Dapper Bass!

    I've always been a little leery of multi-effects petals (not sure why), but I really like the way this one sounds and the potential for it! Thanks for sharing!

      Historically, I have been leery of them as well. This one being analog makes a big difference. And it's not trying to do everything, just covers some essentials. Glad you enjoyed it, Eric!

    Can I bring over some n95 masks and drumsticks and play your drums with you rockin that pedal's full strength dirty q ?!

    Love your tone! I also happen to have a P bass with Dimarzio Model P. I was realy curious about this pedal. As a reference I have a Hartke Bass Attack 2 and an Eden WTDI which I use as my direct boxes when playing. Do you think this Eq would be in the same level or even better? The sound in this video is just amazing! Do you have experience with other preamps? How would this pedal compare against them?
    Thanks for your comment.

      Thanks so much! I haven't played much Hartke stuff lately, but in the past I've found it to be better for more modern styles of music (pop, R&B, etc.). I don't have any firsthand experience with the Eden gear. This pedal is geared towards emulating vintage tube amp sounds, similar to the Tech 21 NYC SansAmp line. The Hartke and Eden will give you more EQ flexibility, while this pedal is made as a stand-in for classic tube amp tone and response (though I do really like the way the EQ on the Dapper is voiced). Apples and oranges I guess. But if you need some great rock tones, this unit won't disappoint! The additional effects and I/O options are also unchallenged at this price point. Thanks again for watching!

      @@ronniebassplayr So, would you say this is more like the Bass Driver, would you say (EQ-wise)? Or more like the VT or any other Tech 21 pedal? Just in case you´ve had an experience with those pedals. Thanks in advance

    • @ronniebassplayr
      @ronniebassplayr  4 года назад +1

      @@MrElopez55 Most similar to the VT, but not dissimilar from the Bass Driver. The Dapper is a clone of Tech 21's Bass Fly Rig. Tonally it could fall somewhere in between though? If you're considering any of those Tech 21 pieces but are hesitant to drop the cash, I think the Dapper would be a solid investment. Especially if you use effects like octave and chorus. Full disclosure, I own a first gen VT Bass (an always 'on' member of my larger pedalboard), and have used the Bass Driver pretty extensively. They're all great pedals really. Hope this helps!

    Not being familiar with terminology would you say the dirtyEQ is equivalent to 'distortion'? I own this pedal and love it but I was trying to describe that dirty effect and don't have the vocabulary. thanks!

      Hey Rob, I’d describe it as an envelope filter, like the EH Bassballs.

    Really cool use of the pedal's capabilities. Beautiful riffage. Have you turned that into a song? Is it already a song?

      Hey Gerald, glad you dig it! I recorded this as an instrumental demo many years ago. It always felt like it could use some vocals, but I haven’t come up with any. I do write and sing though, and hope to use this idea for something someday. In the meantime, it just so happened to be a great vehicle to showcase this pedals’ versatility!

      @@ronniebassplayr Hey! Fun to hear this again. It's very musical. You're not only utilizing the pedal... you're utilizing the capabilities of the instrument with the open strings and the upper registers. I'm a fan.

      Thank you Gerald! This is something I’ve been trying to work on in my songwriting and bass playing voice. If I’ve got open strings and frets, I may as well use them ha ha! A few years ago a band of mine released a record that I co-wrote a few songs on if you would be interested in checking it out. We’ve sort of gone inactive after 2019 but we have a few other songs in the bin that utilize a lot more of this open string style of droning and chordal bass playing. I’m hoping we record and release these tunes eventually. In the meantime, I think you might enjoy this one: open.spotify.com/track/7L1nWZ5vpKtvf3qKffia5g?si=miXqQf2hS5Gb-VUzv-KVqw

    • @ronniebassplayr

      Unfortunately not, the fuzz option is an on/off switch inside the Dirty Q section.

    • @ronniebassplayr
      @ronniebassplayr  4 года назад +3

      Hey Martin, the fuzz is an on/off switch inside the Dirty Q section, and cannot be run independently. I found the Dirty Q effect to work better without it for the purpose of this video, but there are other RUclips demos that dig deeper into those sonic possibilities. Thanks for watching!

      I would need fuzz more than I would need envelope for the type of band I am in so thanks for the reply. Sonicake Boom Ave is the winner for me.
