I worked in a matrixed team environment for many years. It's nice to know your job description and levels of performance standards. Obviously an extended hand is needed to the other teams via a pinch hitter. That way the aggressive acts are on the combat field where we all can give a great rawr to the home team, and not turn on those who have been supportive to almost complete exhaustion of their own light.
Definitely not a micromanager. Absolutely nerve grating if I'm constantly checking on an adult like a child.
