yeah, but he cannot say anything complimentary about the IJN, let alone pronounce any of the names correctly. and I doubt he knows what the names mean, or that all these bad "decisions" were based on slow moving committees and dwindling resources. He won't admit that Japan made the highest quality fastest destroyers and cruisers in the war, as well as the most powerful battleships and world's first super carrier. Tamaichi Hara would roll his eyes.

    • @OK37965

zuki is acutally a conjugated form of tsuki, which means moon. Japanese destroyers are frequently named after natrual phenomena like Akizuki means "autumn moon", Shimakaze means "island breeze" (kaze means wind), Fubuki means "blowing snow" (yuki, or sometimes just ki when used in a compond word means snow), etc., etc.

The Akizuki was credited with downing 13 American planes and our guys were advised to avoid it if possible. I am building it because to me it is the most beautiful destroyer in the Japanese navy. One thing this kid never mentions is how invaluable torpedo reloads were! Ijn destroyers could run in launch their torpedoes withdraw reload torpedoes attack again! U.s. destroyers couldn't do that! Ijn had superior tactics, they launched their torpedoes, timed them and then fired main batteries so that torpedoes and shells hit at the same time with devastating effect!! Ijn night fighting was far superior to the u.s. as demonstrated around guadalcanal! Ijn ruled the night!

Not many sea battles fought around the 'canal were in rainy conditions that I know of! I refer to the publication in the '80's 'The history of the ijn 1936? To 1945' in that what confounded the Japanese navy at the 'canal was they new the usn had radar on on their warships, in battle the u.s. units seemed to concentrate on the lead ship in the column. Pound it under the waves and leave the rest of the column untouched! U.s. sources claim the ijn had a 'flashless' powder! U.s. units fired it lit the horizon and betrayed their position before they could spot the Japanese ! And a lot of times when you did spot their gunfire you were being hit by long lances!

@@sheadjohn most of the sunken wrecks around the 'canal are American! I refer to Jim Ballard's book about photographing the wrecks of iron bottom bay. I believe there are 6 or 7 cruisers, at least 5 destroyers. The cruiser count includes the hams Canberra(?)!

Mate, your speculation is astounding. Talk about the disbursement of what was, rather than the fictional chronological wishes. Love the minutiae but you don't address so many political and then systemic issues. You speak to them as both a contiguous understanding of strategic and tactical series of ideas, rather than oppositional, within Japanese Naval thinking.
