The people manning that post were local cops, not Secret Service. They weren't the sharpest tacks in the drawer. Clearly, the SS team assigned is short-handed and needs to enlist locals to cover where they are short personnel.
Days like this makes me miss Gonzalo. Makes me wonder sometimes what he would be saying at times and events like this. Still insane to think that all that happened to him was just because he had an opinion.

AS a former roofer, I see another bad assumption. That roof was painted white. This makes a huge difference, as it reflects light and doesn't get as hot as a dark roof, and will most likely be warm, but not hot. A black roof would have been 150 degrees, but not a white one.

Fool that I was, I painted it red and black. Even in May, you couldn't sit in it, and I had to re-paint it white.
You are right, BTW, I checked it in Google earth, it was Grey.. old image...then at some point of time they painted it white... and I have seen a photo from maybe a drone shows there is a fixed ladder to the roof behind two ac machines ... the guy didn't need to bring a ladder.

So this kid managed to drive a car with a twenty foot ladder up to a building that's over looking Trump and lean it against the building without security saying something 🙄. Unless this so called ladder shop is next door he's obviously had to drive with this huge ladder. Apparently it's being said that one of the bullets travelled 450 yards meaning it was fired from somewhere else. The guy on the roof was seen minutes before the shot, why wasn't Trump taken off stage for a minute or two while they identified who this guy was?

Now that Trump has made this move, even if Vance hasn't legally been approved, the chaos risk for Rs has declined dramatically. Once the ticket is legally voted in Wed/Thu, Vance will absolutely be the automatic successor. This reduces country risk a few notches from the absurdly high level we have hit.

Twice now I have heard him say it is because the surface of the earth is curved, not flat. No, it's just gravity. The curvature of the earth _reduces_ the effect, it doesn't _cause_ it. If the speed of the bullet was high enough, the curvature of the earth would completely cancel out the tendency for gravity to bring the bullet closer to the surface of the earth, and it would stay at the same height as it travelled all the way around the earth (ignoring air resistance, of course). That's called _going into orbit._
Nice observation - not heard Johnson say this before. Yep, if the bullet were fired at escape velocity, about 25 times as fast as a normal rifle bullet, then as you say, ignoring atmospheric friction (which would of course cause it to immediately burn up), it would continue in its course around the planet and return to hit you in the back of the head about 90 minutes later.
