Reminds me of my uncle in Florida... everytime we went to visit him he couldn't wait to show me what he was grafting. Great job and love the old school break dancing...brings back memories lol
I literally gasped when I saw the size of what I think was your Savannah cherry. That thing looked huge! Can’t be wait to see how your seedling fruits. I’d love to buy a start off of you once you get fruit. Looking forward to the tasting video on it.
Great intro and ending on the break dancing, lol... brings back some memories of the 80s. Great job on the grafts, wow, 7 out of 8 is an incredible batting average, I can't wait to see when it fruit sets. Thanks for sharing!
I went old school with this one haha 😄. I actually misspoke. I grafted 9 and got 8 to take. I wish it was as easy to graft grumichama 😦. It's the weekend Woo-hoo!!
Grafts all took ... Awesome WOW ... the nelita is a big fruit ..your eugenia calycina looks great . Hoping the fruits hold Was that you break dancing 🤣 Have a great weekend
Hi Dan! I'm pretty excited about these and happy that they didn't take forever to flower. That was me and Vin Diesel at the beginning poppin'! I seriously did break dance a little when I was a kid tho back in the day 😅 😲
@@VirginiaFruitGrowerNo prob! I have been, but im very thankful for everything and i love what im doing! Plus I have mother nature as my therapist! ♡♡♡ Hope you're doing fantastic!
Very interesting the difference between the two Savannah Cherry 🍒, I am growing one also curious of how the fruit will taste .. I heard some of good some got an aftertaste?
I'm especially excited about the Nelita as they are supposed to be a much larger fruit. I haven't heard of many reports of resinous aftertaste with these like surinam cherry. I wish I could do close by field trips to other close tropical fruit growers like you can 🙂
Thanks so much. I did get a good harvest from the calycina but didn't film any of the fruit. I grafted up some mature Nelita wood that I hope takes and also got a grafted "Garnet". Happy 4th weekend!
Thanks Ben! I make them out of coke cans. It's pretty easy, they last for decades and I never have to worry about any fading. I use stainless steel tie wire to hold them on the trees or pots. I have video on how I make them.
Nice cherries, i new they were a bit cold tolerant but didn’t realise can take so cold I’m going to try one outside here and see how it goes Thanks mate 👍🏻
3 years from Savannah seedling-nice. mine is 2 years old..hopefully i can make mine as happy. that is wild the difference between the 2 seedlings.Did they all live outside all winter? I may be babying my trees to much. Pretty work the grafts, 7-8 is dam good. Vin Diesel better watch out before i challenge him to a dance off.lol
Savannah cherries flower pretty reliably from seed at 3 years from most accounts. I'm glad that mine followed that schedule. I only left the COTRG outside all winter but I'm thinking that calycina could handle temps into the twenties. Maybe as they get older I may leave them out longer. I mis-spoke as I meant to say I attempted 9 grafts but 8 took lol. I hope yours flower soon. I'm especially excited about Nelita. You might beat Vin at a dance off haha!
Yooo this was awesome! I love all of those plants so much! Maybe you can compare some leaves of someone else's and figure out which one is which with those calycinas. I want one of those yellow ones maaad baad! Lol ♡
OCD, I came close to pulling out some cardboard and doing a windmill, knee spin followed by a head stand, but I’d probably never get back up again in my life!
Great video! Do you mind sharing, is your Nelita as cold hardy as CORTG? Do you leave it outside in winter too? Just got one and I'm hearing different info on it's cold hardiness. Thanks in advance if you have a chance to respond!
Good afternoon Rebecca! I'm really not sure on it's cold tolerance. It is E. calycina and not E. inolucrata but they look somewhat similar. I believe they are graft compatible so perhaps growing out a COTRG seedling to a good size then grafting Nelita to it would impart some cold tolerance. My Nelita trees are still small so I still bring them inside the greenhouse. I may try leaving one out as they get bigger and older to test how much cold it will take. Thanks a mil for watching!
Oh my the savannah Cherry fruit is lovely...it looks like you might be getting some fruits this year 😃 🍒🍒🍒🍒 will be interesting to see how different the fruits will be from the eugenia. Woah the lolita fruit is also stunning.. nice and big!
I feel like I've never heard of more than half of the trees you grow. Thanks for sharing all of your interesting varieties with us. Do you notice a difference in the health of trees that are grafted compared to the ones you plant from seed? Oh and was that really Vin Diesel?! 😂
Collecting fruit trees can be a slippery slope especially if you get into collecting Eugenia, Myrciaria and Plina. There are hundreds of different types and more are becoming available. Generally seedling trees are usually more lanky and bigger before they start fruiting. Grafted trees tend to be more compact and fruit a lot sooner. Selected varieties are usually much better quality and productive than seedling trees also. Thanks for dropping by. Enjoy your Saturday!
@@VirginiaFruitGrower Thanks for the info. I have heard differing opinions on the subject but most of the time just as you said. And thanks! Enjoy your week!
