One of the best movies I have seen in 75 years of my life. The acting of all three main characters ie Rajkumar, Rajender kumar & Meena kumari was of top class,,specially that of Meena kumari was superlative & exceptional & hats of to her for such a scintatilating performance in the movie.

Its a remake of Tamil movie Nejil oru aalayam. infact Rajendra Kumar was not director C.V. Sridhar's 1st choice.He approached Rajkapoor . Rajkapoor want Nargis as heroine and sunil dutt as heroine cancer husband! Sridhar got angry ! how This Rajkapoor put his personal life nonsense in my movies....so he changed the complete caste. If they acted sure the movie will be good but it will affect their personal life lot. Director C.V.sridar is man with ethics.!! Bollywood is full of greedy and vengeance in those days itself.🤦🏻♂️

Actually CV Sridhar wanted to cast Rajendra Kumar in his film Nazrana before but rajendra kumar rejected it and that film was made with raj kapoor and ended up average movie , and then CV Sridhar wanted to make dil ek mandir with Raj Kapoor but due to raj kapoor demand to cast nargis and sunil dutt in other lead roles C V Sridhar approched rajendra kumar to do the role. Also during this conversation the tamil version was not made at all , since its a risky subject later sridhar wanted to test it in tamil first and then make in hindi hence he did it in tamil with mostly new actors and then made in hindi. Otherwise he narrated the script to raj kapoor and rajendra kumar before tamil version was made.
