    I love hellebores. They are so very drought tolerant too. My Grandma left hers 25 years ago. They have had zero care since then and they are still going. I found them this October flattened on the ground with many browning leaves. I watered them and the next day they popped up. Things get so dry and brown here August, September, October. The hellebores have been going through that for 25 years. Amazing plants.

    Great video. Thank you for sharing your gorgeous hellebores. Definitely one of my top 3 favorite perennials, echinacea and yarrow being my other two. All flowers that give and give and give here in the Chicago area.

    Thank you so much for this beautiful video. It came at a good time because where I live in CA we are expecting another “atmospheric river.” Never heard of such a thing until this year. Happy spring.

    Your Hellebores are beautiful. I have about three feet of snow here in my yard in western Iowa, so it will be awhile before I see anything of my garden. Love your videos. Thank you.

    Such beautiful flowers. I just recently learned of the existence of this flower, and I would like to plant some in my garden. I just don't know where to get some. I have never seen them around here where I live in New Jersey (North). Would you please advise where to buy some?

    Hellebores certainly survive a lot. The ones with green flowers are quite exotic also. They brighten up the winter landscape.
    However, be careful with hellebores around pets and children. They are highly toxic! Keep them well away from the veg plot! I wish more nurseries would include a brief caution on plant toxicity along with their excellent growing advice. See our video “Lovely but Deadly: Common Poisonous Flowers.” Take care!

    I had no idea hellebores were a common plant for the garden. There are some native hellebores and a false hellebore native to the Pacific NW, that I've seen on hikes. But they look very different from these.

    You have Erysiums!! No one else does right now. They've quickly become one of my favorites for they're drought resistance and extended bloom time. Do you know why the Hellebores are so much more expensive then other perennials? Does it have to do with the propagation methods?

    • @GardenStylenw
      @GardenStylenw  5 лет назад +2

      Hellebores take a long time to hybridize and being they are perennial evergreens they can last a long time.

    I have a Sword Fern that is fairly large, 2 feet wide and 2 feet tall. It has always had browning on the tips of the leaves ever since I planted it, years ago.
    Should you prune sword ferns annually? I've never pruned mine before. If so, do you prune the whole thing but the new fronds? Or just prune the oldest leaves and leave the newer 1/2 or 1/3 leaves alone?
    For the record, it gets water all year round, and gets afternoon shade as it lives right beside the east facing wall of my house. Full, direct sun in the morning, between 9am to 1pm all summer. Soil is clay, but partially amended with age-old compost. I never fertilize it. Color is deep green. I don't know why the leaves keep getting brown tips.

      It's natural for sword ferns to have die back. Just trim out the brown and they will look great!

    Your “Spring Promise” Hellebore, is this a variety that is just in the USA? I have a very similar form but un-named that I would like to get identified. I am in South East England.

    The hellebores are beautiful! What are their water requirements? Will they grow in the same areas as hostas?

    What was the variety name of the black hellebore? Also, what will hellebores look like in the summer -- will they stay green? I planted a few this year and was wondering how much care they will need in the summer. I have them planted in shade, but it's a drier shade area. Thanks!

    • @GardenStylenw
      @GardenStylenw  5 лет назад +1

      Dark and handsome is the name. Yes! Hellebores are evergreen all year round.

      I am in the U.K. and my hellebores are green all year I don’t usually remove the old leaves in mid winter as many growers do, unless they are diseased.
