It was (spoilers) Guren, and he used the forbidden 'Seraph of the End' power to revive his dead squad and Shinya for another ten years after being killed, which was one of the main triggers to the apocalypse. Krul just used the occasion to take some human blood

There's something funny about the idea of Karlheinz saying screw it after realizing all of his sons would be terrible as king and just naming Yui as Queen. Like 'Guess I have a daughter now.' Then we have Krul/Yui being such a good vampire mom to Mika than the mothers of the Sakamaki siblings ever were.
