Semmangudi's disciples have also presented a sublime recital of Amba Kamakshi in Bhairavi. ruclips.net/video/TOj9mHLPBuI/видео.html . His disciples PSN, V Subramaniam, SSI's two daughters are among that group of singers.
Superb by Semmangudi Mama ! Amba Kāmākṣi Rāgam: Bhairavi 20th Mela Janya Composer: Śyāmā Śāstri Tāḷam: Miśra Cāpu This kriti "Amba Kamakshi" was composed on the goddess at Kanchi "Kamakshi" by the great Shyama Sastri. This kriti is a call of the child's soul to the divine mother "Amba". Gist :- Oh Pārvati, Mother! Bhavāni! Śrī Rājarājēśvari, the nourisher of all the worlds! The esteemed Dēvi! The lotus eyed, Pāvani! Kāmākṣi! The blemishless one! Protect me, Ambā! You are the bestower of good fortune, Mother Mṛḍāni, of the supreme suzerain! You are of the form of the mystic syllable "Hrīm". Your eyes are like a doe. Oh Dēvī, who dwells in Kāñcīpura, Kāmākṣi, Śrī Kāmēśvari, protect me Ambā! You are Śāmbhavi, Janani, the ancient one, Śrī Rājarājēśvari, you are adorned with moon. Śaṁkari Dēvi the nourisher of Śyāmakṛṣṇa. Kāmākṣi! The dark hued godess, protect me Ambā! kāmākṣi ambā anudinamumaravakanē nī pādamule dikkanucu nammitini śrī kañci kāmākṣi kundaradanā kuvalaya nayanā talli rakṣiñcu kambugaḷa nīrada cikurā vidhuvadanā māyamma kumbhakuca madamatta gajagama padma bhava hari śambhu nuta pada śaṁkarī nīvu nā cintala vē vēga dīrccammā yipuḍu bhakta jana kalpa latikā karuṇālayā sadayā giri tanaya kāvavē śaraṇāgatuḍugada tāmasamu sēyaka vara mosagu pātakamulanu dīrcci nī pada bhakti sampada mīyavē pāvanigadā moravinadā parākēlanammā vinamma kaluṣahāriṇi sadā nata phala dāyakiyani birudu bhuvilō galigina dorayanucu vēdamu moraliḍa kavini nī pavana nilayā surasamu dayākara vidhrta kuvalayā mada danuja vāraṇa mr̥gēndrārccita kaluśa dahana ghanā aparimita vaibhavamugala nī smaraṇa madilō dalacina janādulaku bahu sampadala niccēvipuḍumākabhaya miyya vē śyāma kr̥ṣṇa sahōdari śiva śaṁkari paramēśvari hariharādulaku nī mahimalu gaṇimpa taramā sutuḍammā abhimānamulēdā nāpai dēvī parākēlanē brōvavē yipuḍu śrī bhairavi
Beautiful krithi rendition. Unfortunately during Tara sthayi neraval, he goes into a lot of kharaharapriya. Good support by Lalgudi sir, bringing back to Bhairavi repeatedly.
For my learning, can you please point out the time stamps where the kharaharapriya transgressions happen. What are the phrases that sound like Kharaharapriya. I want to learn to pick up such nuances. Thanks.
It is divine and beautiful and not "unfortunate" that the Doyen moves into "Karaharapriya" in his flow. It is like a child moving into the comfort of the mother's lap and returning. It is widely believed that Bhairavi is derived from Natabhairavi, but Dr MBK believed it was from Karaharapriya. Dr MBK had composed a musical dance piece for our series "Swara Bhushani" way back in 1990s and if one listened to the composition, it slipped more into karaharapriya than Bhairavi ..it was so seamless. and so magical. Music is free flowing beyond the barriers of raagas...
@@ravichandnallappa1537 Understood sir! Apologies for my clunky phrasing. The ragas have clearly shared a lot of DNA and Bhairavi clearly follows more from Kharaharapriya. Wonderful to hear about Dr MBK'c composition. And while I do think ragas can maintain integrity within some boundaries, music itself is free flowing as you eloquently said. Appreciate your comments once again sir.
The instrumental dance piece in Bhairavi (in this episode) is the composition of DR MBK which sounds more like Karaharapriya and which I was referring to in my reply. Its enchanting !
Outstanding. After SSis marubalka this is second on my list. Skill + devotion. Ambal must come to the room. Lalgudi and vellore make it special.
(Gold Standard for) Bhairavi Swarajati : (Amba) Kamakshi, by Shyaama Shaastree / Semmangudi / Concert in 1974, at Shri Krishna Gana Sabha, Chennai.
Violon : Lalgudi Jayaraman, Mridangam : Vellore Ramabhadran
Both the singer and the great composer are enthralling the listeners. Nobody can match SSI !!!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Nobody else has sung this (Amba Kaamakshi) better than SSI, He is the best. Amazing. God bless his Soul
you are absolutely spot on.
Maharajapuram V.Santhanam has sung this song
Maharajapuram Santhanam too has rendered this song beautifully.
