@Cheryl Topaz They did a version of this show on Broadway. It was one of the biggest train wrecks ever produced. The composer (Jim Steinman) walked away from the show while they were adapting it for the US because the producers gutted the book like a fish, making Dance of the Vampires NOTHING like Tanz. There's a lot of tea from this production.
@Cheryl Topaz Sadly, it’s true. This musical is amazing as it is, they wanted to make it funnier I guess, but they ended up turning it into a really bad parody. :(
I saw it twice at 2001 Michael crawfort and Mandy gonzales...but i ll never even compare it with the austrian and german Produktions, Broadway was horrible
I've seen the german version live 6 times in Vienna over the past years and the acting singing and stage setup is exactly like in this video every time..
@@ns8014 sarah does not wear the red dress when she arrives at the castle and sings this song, nor are the vampire guests present on stage like they are here
It just seems to be more emotional in German to me. The whole production seemed more emotional. ESPECIALLY the Endless Appetite song. I cried during the German one, the English one only seemed slightly sad.
I always love it when a musical, with music written for itself, includes a pre-written well known song, like how Beetlejuice has 'The Banana Boat Song' and 'Jump in the Line' from Harry Belafonte. Hearing 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' here is absolutely unexpected and freaking awesome and perfect! And hearing it in German is so cool. It's sounds amazing in German!
In German the song is not the words at all! 🤣 so you know the beginning you hear ‘turn around bright eyes.” In German it says “be careful’ eclipse of the heart is closer. Eclipse is in it? So we have that lol
Every song in this musical is a Jim Steinman song, so if you don't recognize the rest of them it just shows that you haven't listened enough on Meatloaf and others. They all have new lyrics, but the music is the same.
Wow! That's a stunning version! Even if voice of Sara annoys me a bit and of course my motherlanguage Polish version is perfect for me, I still can admit that here it's just...woow. (those costumes! ♥). Greetings from Poland :)
Einfach super!
Sandra Hayes it was some years ago in Broadway, but only for a short time. Was not a success is the US... but in Germany it lasted a couple of years. Went to see it with my parents (who dont understand German) and still loved it. One of the best shows i have ever seen (andI have seen quite a few)
Sandra Hayes Actually...yes it was. It flopped on Broadway several years ago. The film that you're referring to is called The Fearless Vampire Killers and it was a comedy.
@andipoetic I totally agree. My favorite part is right at about 1:05 to 1:11, when it goes from "Serious Dark Vampire Opera" to "The 80's are back in, dude!"
Apparently, the Bonnie Tyler music video was about vampires as well. That would explain the headlight eyes. However, it would have been nice if we saw some fangs as well.
It came from the song, when the songwriter Jim Steinman was asked to write Tanz der Vampire, he used the melody because he was rushed for time but it worked so it's been kept in
Jim Steinman wrote this song in the early seventies and always intended it to be part of a musical about vampires. Steinman never had any success until he wrote all of Meat Loaf's debut album. By the early eighties Steinman was running low on money after wasting a lot of his Meat Loaf money and pitched a second Steinman/Meat Loaf album to Mr. Loaf. Loaf declined and faded into obscurity until the nineties. Loaf pitched the song to Tyler, and Steinman got his cut from the hit. In the meantime, Steinman pitched his vampire musical everywhere and smartly retained the rights to use "Total Eclipse" in a musical. Eventually he got it in London, but he blew all his money on it and barely made it back. But Germans loved it, and a German version became a huge success in Hamburg, and has been performed ever since.
@@Bacopa68 This is all incredibly inaccurate. First off, it's not true that Steinman wanted to do a second album with Meat Loaf and Meat declined -- they both wanted to do a second album together, but Meat had ruined his voice on tour and couldn't record for a while. But as soon as he had his voice back, they _did_ record another album together (1981's Dead Ringer). Then you make it sound like Meat Loaf pitched the song to Bonnie Tyler and she just kind of recorded it without Steinman's input, which is also untrue: Tyler herself approached Steinman because she wanted him to produce her album, which he agreed to do, and it was Steinman who gave her Total Eclipse of the Heart. It's also not true that he pitched the idea of his vampire musical everywhere but couldn't get it made; he had apparently written Total Eclipse with a potential Nosferatu musical in mind, but Dance of the Vampires was not his idea. In fact, he himself was approached by Michael Kunze, the musical's librettist, about doing the musical, and simply reused some of his pre-existing material because he didn't have much time. And lastly, the original production of the musical was not in London, it was in Vienna: it's always been a German-language musical and it's always been very popular and successful in German-speaking countries. The only English production that there has ever been was a disastrous Broadway version that ran for a very short time.

Hey, Broadway! THIS is how a vampire show is SUPPOSED to be done!!
@Cheryl Topaz They did a version of this show on Broadway. It was one of the biggest train wrecks ever produced. Els de ridder.
When they did it Denmark a few years ago, faithfully, it completely tanked :( I loved it though, but there was a few awkward parts.
Just a reminder that this isn't the actual version that's in the musical, this was a special version just for a tv appearance promoting the musical.
I've seen the german version live 6 times in Vienna over the past years and the acting singing and stage setup is exactly like in this video every time..

Every time I have a big German test, I watch all of Tanz der Vampire. Einfach atemberaubend :D
omg i saw ur tiktok that went viral abt that!

Wirklich! Wunderbar!
This song was originally written for an unproduced Nosferatu musical and later sold to Bonnie Tyler. So it's inclusion is very appropriate.
I like how all of the other performers exit the stage so stealthily it seems that suddenly the stage is empty of all but the main characters.
This all sounds so much more awesome in German than English!!
jessica und thomas sind die perfekte Kombination!
Thank you for all the fantastic music, Jim Steinman ❤️
yeah sad it closed after one performance (the US version) such an injustice to Jim and Michael!
Oh my god, I'm in love with this gorgeous man!
Elena Isaeva Absolutely ....gor blimey
isn't this total eclipse of the heart? it's beautiful!!
It is. But it's in German
The true legacy of the song and Jim Steinman. This musical wouldn’t be what it is without its American influence.
Damn 13 years later, I found this gem 🙌🏼
13 years later!? Was it because you can’t speak German or do you lived on the moon XD
@@rafaelsteffen3890 I don't speak german and when this came out, I was just a kid 😅
i dont speak german very good, but i was able to quickly fall in love with this musical! i don't like the english version as good. amazing! :D
And the lyrics actually ARE much more awesome in German :D
So far out of all the Tanz der Vampire plays, this couple, Kessler & Borchert, are my favorite.
When it sounds this awesome its near impossible to look down on Steinman for reusing the same tune as previous songs he wrote lol
Im cryyyiiingggg.... I was obssesed with this as teenager 😍😭
And yes, I fall for everything Beauty & the Beast related...
I’m with you on that. Shame Broadway didn’t get this. They thought a big name like Crawford would save an awful production
I have no idea what they’re saying, but I sure love the way they say it!

Man, I love the vampire makeup in this play. Extreme facial contouring is the way to my heart. CHEEK BONES!

it is called "totale finsternis"
like you can see above.
Yes, it's the melody from " A total eclipse of my heart"
Grad Tickets für Show in Stuttgart reserviert. Juhuu, freu mich. :)
Das beste Musical aller Zeiten!
Jessica Kessler ist die beste Sarah.
Are you kidding guys? She sings awful. Her voice is beautiful and strong but singing...
I prefer Marjan Shaki. Thomas Borchert is the best count though
Wow! That's a stunning version! Even if voice of Sara annoys me a bit and of course my motherlanguage Polish version is perfect for me, I still can admit that here it's just...woow. (those costumes! ♥). Greetings from Poland :)

Can't wait for the Finnish Tanz premiere, only five weeks away! Still, I'd love to see Thomas Borchert as Count one day...what a voice! : )
This is the first I've heard of this! Is there an English version of this musical?! It looks absolutely amazing!
Yes. Search wiki.
in english it is Dance of the Vampires and is a film but not stage musical as yet
Jim Hayes The broadway version was awful because they tried to turn it into a comedy and it just didn't translate at all well.
Thomas Borchert is my second favourite Von Krolock. The way he gestures and the way he sings certain lines make me squirm. ;D
Beautiful!! I want to be Sarah so bad. She is a beautiful character, and so cute and cheeky.
Schmeeeeeeeeelz...achja seufZ*
Wunderschöne ,lustige und auch traurige Erinnerungen!
Dennoch ein wundervolles Musical!
Einfach Atemberaubend...

Does anyone else here total eclipse of the heart? Did this come from the song or did the song come from this?
Total eclipse of the heart by Bonnie Tyler is the original. It was produced in 1983 I think....
It came from the song, when the songwriter Jim Steinman was asked to write Tanz der Vampire, he used the melody because he was rushed for time but it worked so it's been kept in
