Fighting for what he found beautiful in the world. Striving for his own safe place. This animation short left a big impression on me, and made me reflect on life. Massive kudos to miHoYo for building up his story arc and ending it so brilliantly. The greatest inventor can now rest ... Share with me your thoughts! This is definitely an excellent showcase of miHoYo's great story-writing and in-house animation production quality. P.S: This doesn't mean I forgive Otto for the inhumane and immoral actions that he has done, albeit contributing tremendously to humanity's battle against the Honkai. However, I do understand his motives and character. He is undoubtedly selfish, but also very human.
For your information, otto sacrifice himself to create new timeline which kallen still alive. All kallen's memories of otto erased,so she doesn't remember him all. Poor him, himself will be forgotten by time but his sacrifices, achievement, deed and sins will remembered. SPOILERS He made deal with will of honkai that durandal and kiana will still win although he become enforcer of imaginary tree but WoH don't believe it. After he made deal with it, otto controlled by WoH like puppet. When he said that he will sacrifice present time to time travel to 500 years,he lied. He actually try to increase Hyperion team's motivation to kill him. After they defeated otto, otto broke free from WoH's control. He used some power of WoH which still in his body to make new possibilities that kallen still alive and create new branch which contain timeline where kallen don't died in imaginary tree
I still hate otto for what he did to the girls. But, i still pay my respect to someone that willing to sacrifice anything, even his humanity to save the one he love. Rest now, poor ba*tard.
I know how otto feels/felt, but I still think all the things he did are not worth, like, he messed up with a lot of lives for saving his love. Think there's could be others ways
@@gustavomedeiros3781 You still can hate him while still respect his dedication. I mean, 500 years old worth of failures. You would gone insane without strong dedication.
something I truly love about this man, is the fact that he didn’t need Kallen love. Ultimately he was fighting for her happiness, even if that happiness wasn’t with him in it. He just wanted her to live a long life, which ultimately led to the building of a new branch in the tree. Branches that can save the world from honkai, everything up to this point also made everyone stronger. He was a villain to push them to become stronger so they can take whatever honkai brings at them.
EXACTLY! Well said indeed. He just wanted to save the person that saved him. The guilt and suffering for eons truly makes me respect him for enduring this. And whatever he did, cruel or not, has helped humanity in developing stronger methods to defeat the Honkai. But I still won't forgive his immoral actions though.
"if rescuing you is a sin,i'll gladly become a sinner" well, this line is for Otto too i guess Respect for you,Otto. best villain in my heart... a very well-written character,i don't want to kill him anymore lol
miHoYo just loves referencing themselves lul, but this truly goes to show, that with a different perspective, looking outside the box. You begin to understand Otto's goals and his motives. Respect to him and his sacrifice
@@imdevil8586 same 😔 but probably hes both a hero and a villain but you cant even say that hes a pure villain bcs he didnt want to take over the world but he did all of this just to revive/meet kallen once again 😭-
@@takasakisaito1210 the antagonist would fit his role. His action isnt non sense and he did everything with a reason and his final goal is to revive his dearest friend, but his role is opposite from the protagonist position and caused many events to occur. So i’d call him a great written antagonist character so far
I saw a comment at Bilibili mentioning the Stars in the scene where Otto and Kallen sleeping are The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl (牛郎织女), which kind of representing their fate of never being together. 😢
I can't believe it but i'm happy for Otto Apocalypse. Without discounting all the atrocities that he has done, i have so much respect for the man. After 500 years of constant torture, finally he finds his closure. Now that he is now gone, i'm gonna go and have a drink but not to celebrate, instead i will leave a glass open in his honour. May you rest in peace, Otto Apocalypse. The maddest human to ever existed, but also in my opinion, the most human of all.
The Lyrics of the song were something else. That "Life is too long to end at a grave" line hit me so hard. Mihoyo did Otto's character so much justice. They truly gave the perfect ending for him.
Mihoyo : "Fight for all that's beautiful in the world" Otto : "Kallen is only one and the most beautiful in my world" Result : Otto mess up the entire world to save Kallen Me : You're such a protagonist-like villain, Otto! Every protagonist is always a villain in the other protagonist's story and likewise, Every villain is always a protagonist in his own story
When smol Otto flew that plane and smol Kallen found it, in a way she helped that plane (Otto) get fixed and allowed it to fly again. When they were flying it together and Kallen disappeared, the plane didn't fly for that long. Otto may have fixed the plane but Kallen was the spark in his life. She allowed Otto to able to feel love and be cared by someone. Kallen would disagree about what Otto has done in those centuries but at the same time she would also be the only one that could understand why he was doing it. Similar to how Klein is to Mobius. He created clones of Kallen and made them kill each other, forced the second eruption that killed many lives including Cecilia, and so much more that almost made him not human. But Otto wanting to revive a person he loved the most, the person that saved him, is definitely the most human thing that he has ever did. He was willing to do it even when those actions will make him the villain of this story. In that Otto web event where it involved 9 items, it made me happy to know that he roots for Theresa. That he knows she'll be a good leader and etc. Otto is a great character because he isn't perfect. There are times in our own stories that we'll meet someone that will change us, whether that be a good or bad experience.
Sorry for the upload delay! The analysis part is very lore-heavy and convoluted. So I wanted to make it as entertaining and organised as possible (especially for a 30-mins video). The recording was also 1-hour+ long, so it took a while to cut and snip Despite that, I had fun editing and going through Otto's file collections in-game! I apologize if there are any errors in my analysis Let me know what I can do better, and I will improve :D Correction: 1. It was not a mini honkai eruption. Otto released the Honkai Beasts to give Kallen a chance to escape. Unfortunately, she died instead trying to save the people. (idk why i forgot this info from the manga 💀😭)
16:50 to add to that part, you can notice in the animation he ran 5 steps, signifying the 500 years of his life and how at the end of it he looked back sadly knowing that everything changed and nothing and no one followed him through it. This part is very important because it expresses his loneliness; similar to how fuhua went through her 50k years, she became a killing machine like he did, the only difference is that Otto had that one spark of hope(Kallen, a dead person) while Fuhua got hers in the girls(even though she still regrets the past). I think MiHoYo really want us to see how time affects the human mind in an apocalyptic world like this. In this situation, one truly just returns back to his original human instincts and behaviour. Selfishness.
I think the selfish part can be related to Kallen as well, I think it's the concept of self sacrifice, no matter how much pain it bring to others, the one you give your life to save, and in a personal level too, because he was content with doing so. I think that's what makes it actually a positive mark. Selfish so in the most human way someone can act. So selfish as to leave you in tears. At least that's how I feel seeing my boy just do all this xd/I'm sobbing?!
I'm honestly baffled by how well executed the character of Otto is from a writing perspective. Ignoring villains that are simply evil for the sake of being evil and such lesser plot elements, a good villain is one that is universally viewed as "evil" or "wrong" by the readers in what they are doing, but their motive is as good or even arguably better than that of the protagonist, especially when said motive is unquestionably "human". I'd argue that Otto's love for Kallen - as obsessive as it may be - is the most human motive/emotion that can be used in any and all cases. It's as good of a reason as any Hero's can be and, quite frankly, it is something I admire. Considering that, I'd go even further: The things Otto has done over the course of the story have led to the pain and suffering of many in the story, and even arguably us the audience. Just as Otto views himself as a villain, I'd refer to him as such. However, the act of willingly giving ones life in exchange for the one of someone else (which can be interpreted as "the most selfish thing one can do") is an act of true heroism - just like Himeko did for Kiana. Therefore I'd make the argument that Otto goes beyond the relatively famous quote "You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain" and manages to both live long enough to be a villain yet STILL manages to die a hero at the very end. I'm not a professional writer in any capacity, nor am I touching on all the aspects of Otto's character in this comment, but I cannot think of a significantly better way to write a villain than Otto Apocalypse. Perhaps it is wrong of me to phrase it like this, but Otto is honestly one of my favorite characters. I was genuinely touched by both this cinematic and how Otto was handled in the end. Bravo writing team ... absolutely bravo.
I felt really bad for him, void archives was trying to manipulate him, his family was toxic, and the only person who cared about him died an unfair death. He was cursed with the knowledge of the previous era and he is extremely sick and frail as a child, he felt that he had to be the villain because the hero had died, he wanted someone to save him, Theresa, durandel and kiana. That never happened, only way for him to be happy was to die.
This doesn't mean I forgive him for the inhumane things he's done to achieve his goals though ._. From a bird's eye view, he definitely helped forge stronger ways for humanity to defeat the Honkai (Durandal, Kiana, etc.). His vast knowledge also helped turn the tide of humanity's battle against the Honkai. However, it does not mean I forgive him for his cruel and inhumane actions. However, I do understand Otto's motivations and perspective.
Otto is a great representation of when "The ends justify the means". If his actions ultimately lead to him saving humanity, then it was all worth it since the alternative was a timeline restart or extinction.
Otto character ask one question “will you sacrifice 100 people to save 1000? Will you sacrifice 1000 to save 10000? Will you sacrifice 10000 to save humanity?” Essentially he did help to fight honkai. Aside his personal disregard for people as persons, this question is here
19:45 I had to record twice for the 'Regression' lyrics breakdown so I might seem quite tired Sorry for that! (I can only blame my Pepega self) But I hope everyone enjoys the breakdown as much as I do!! :D I'm amazed at how the lyrics perfectly showcases Otto's life and motives ... another big kudos to TetraCalyx, Ayanga and everyone at HOYO-MiX! And I sincerely apologize if there are any errors in my analysis/breakdown >_
@@axirex603 he is not a hero, you can make the argument of "he is the hero of Kallen" he only makes Kallen live in a new timeline in the other one she is still dead and to archive this he does a fucking genocide betray companions that will do all for him.... He is a scummy person and a total villain, oh oh you did a good thingy congrats you fellow Nazi.
@@JONATAN-VELAZQUEZ you clearly didn't read the subtitles. 'In order to save the one and only her' so in other words, that WAS his Kallen. He just created a new timeline for her to live in since she couldn't be revived in the current one. Maybe next time you want to type like an idiot, pay closer attention. Also, why the ducky 🦆 are you talking about Nazis? Are you high or something?
Otto is my favorite character, gonna miss him. Really hope later on mihoyo show us the timeline where Otto saved Kallen and we see both Otto ( tha past one) and Kallen happy together.
Is it wrong for me to ask for playable Otto, after seeing this now? I think he deserved to be part of our Hyperion after this effort. At least I want to welcome him for a job well done
Jesus Christ I thought I already got over this after watching this CG so many times as well as other content creators reacting to it But Zkodla's emotional mess was so infectious lmfao but man, Honkai definitely feels emptier now without Otto... Kevin (if he is indeed the next 'villain') has a role to fill
There's so much into this cinematic that make it different. I'd actually say this is my favorite out of all of the ones that came out. This was the only one that shook me to my very core the first time I watched it. I love how the teaser mislead us into thinking that he was going to do the initial plan he told us, to erase the world's history and keep Kolosten intact to resurrect Kallen. Hell, the song that we heard in the teaser wasn't even Regression. Just like Otto did, Mihoyo deceived us. I'm gonna try and convey some of my thoughts here about Otto and why he has become for now, my favorite character in this story. Otto lied. About a lot of things. Everything he has done from up to this point was all to do what he did in this short, to sacrifice himself. After the Will of Honkai told him what he to do, everything after it was all in his plan. I can't spoil how far he has thought about it, but chapter 28 will reveal things. The lyrics. Almost everything here can be put to Otto. "Just a drop of water suffices" can be about how Kallen was that drop of water that rippled the calm surface and made Otto who he is now. "Personas played out on the stage will return to self when there's a curtain call" is show just how Otto had to act the part, to be the villain, and when it's finally over we see his true self, with a smile of relief, 500 years of hardships and sacrifices lead to this point, as he says his last words. Otto rebelled against Schicksal and overthrew the corrupt who ruled it back then. As an Overseer, he's always had humanity's safety as his priority unless there's an opportunity for him to get something out of it. Not once did he let people die if he could do something about it, he's always tried to find a solution where the casualties are at a most minimal. He agonizes, we should already know this, he wants to save everyone, but that's not possible when the disaster is that dangerous and you yourself have an agenda. He's painfully aware of the things he must do, those consequence never avoided but faced head on. And then we have this. Bianka and Theresa. These two... are very VERY important. We already know who Bianka is, the fact that she was allowed to be free and be her own person not tied to any bloodline, to be able to follow her own ideals, haven't people even thought how Otto gave her all that? Then we have Theresa, the first attempt to resurrect Kallen, it was a failure, but Otto felt a piece of Kallen in her, and thus he made her his granddaughter and doted on her to no end. He genuinely loves Theresa and cares about her deeply, she was allowed to literally betray her own organization and even brought some of the people of Schicksal into AE, and he let her. People ignore these things and that... pains me. Otto has done things, he's the reason for the tragedies that we see our characters go through, that's all true, but even so, I absolutely despise how a lot of the community treat him, they continuously reduce the man's character into a "haha herrscher of simp" even though he's more than that. I hope for everyone who sees this and thinks this... READ. Make an effort to understand him, blindly hating him like this won't help you appreciate what Otto Apocalypse did. To end this, I raise a glass to Otto Apocalypse, The Great Inventor, the very first person in a Mihoyo story to shape the world to what he desired. I could never hate him, and I never would. I also hope the other characters of this story would know what he did.
I love this comment. You really detailed Otto's true nature perfectly. Thanks for sharing with me your thoughts :D I also sincerely hope the community at least tries to understand his character before reducing him to just "a simp". miHoYo's story-writing is beyond that.
@@KodlaThank you. I only really started playing this game around last year of November, but when I got into the lore, Otto has always struck me as interesting, the way the community portrayed him didn't match what I actually saw in him. I mean I can't deny how I hated him at first, but as the story progressed and I myself started reading up, I started to love him LMAO. It's really a shame to be honest, Otto is one of the most misunderstood characters I've ever seen in a story.
If I'm going to hate someone, I'm going to hate them properly. I hated Otto for some things, but those are circumstances of his own doing. Other times he's a victim of circumstances and he just pushes forward because he has to. Point is, even though I have hate on his name, it doesn't stop me from giving respect to this man, a pioneer of his time, and did everything in his power to save Kallen and also leave behind enough for humanity to stand up for itself against the Honkai, albeit the questionable means he did to that end.
I agree with every part of your text. People really like to reduce the character a lot to a simp or villain who only did bad things in the story, but the character goes way beyond that, it's a character that people should try to understand better its complexity, because he is worthy of that, Mihoyo did a great job with this character. Even though he's done a lot of bad things, he's also done a lot of good things that will help humanity in their fight against Honkai, he's given them the best Valkyries for this fight and the best leader they can have, Theresa. And about her, even if people only say that he only cares about Kallen, you can see, especially at the end of the last chapter, in his monologue before this animated short, that he genuinely loves his granddaughter and knows that she will be a great leader. Otto did terrible, unforgivable things, but I don't think it's fair to ignore the good things he did, since it's thanks to them that humanity can still fight the Honkai. And that's one of the most important parts to me about him, because apart from the love and desire to save Kallen Kaslana, these mistakes and successes that he made are what mark how human he is. And personally I feel sorry for him, he went to such lengths to bring the one he loves back and she will probably never know it, and those who do will only remember him with contempt. Even if he deserves it, after all, he's the villain, and even if he doesn't care, after all, as long as Kallen lives it's okay with him, I can't help but be saddened by it. I express my respect for Otto Apocalypse, for me the best villain I've ever seen in fiction, and proof of the high quality of Honkai Impact's story and this writers. Rest in peace, Great Inventor.
Just here to see you cry... ROFL! But seriously, loved how Mihoyo drew the parallel between Kallen (a hero) & Otto (a villain). Mihoyo always try to show that the world isn't black and white, good and evil. It is always a matter of perspective. Through the scene switches, it shows that both the hero and the villian are just as determined and strong-willed. Finally, it was genius that they made Otto wield Judgement of Shamash in the end. Remember how all the Kaslana in the past died protecting their loved ones while wielding the Shamash? Otto is doing the same here and ended his life in the same way. It felt as if it was an acknowledgement that what he did was just as selfless and respectable as the Kaslana's oath.
@@Kodla Indeed! Wonder if they will keep integrating more 2D into their future animations... At first I thought they were using 3D to show present timeline, and 2D to show the past. At the end, when Otto broke into the alternative timeline, I couldn't tell whether it was 2D or 3D, so couldn't come to a conclusion. But it also shows how good Mihoyo is with meshing the two types of animation together. I certainly wouldn't mind if they continue trying to mix the two together. The final scene of the starry sky was sooo beautiful, one of the best I have seen in any animation.
Really great reaction and your analysis was amazing as always! It's been interesting seeing all the different interpretations going around, but I feel like you really do have a good grasp of who Otto is, and what this CG really means. Something I find a lot of people overlook is actually how much Otto embodies the Kaslana spirit in his own twisted way. He despised his own family and admired yet feared the Kaslana oath. Seeing them as heroes that the world treated unfairly, and fearing their resolve of self-sacrifice. Yet here we have Otto doing the same thing, not only for Kallen, but also for the sake of the world at the same time. It's no coincidence that his favorite weapon to simulate with the Void Archives is Judgement of Shamash. Because even if it is unconscious, he abides by the Kaslana viewpoint due to Kallen's influence and his desire to see her ideals live on. The fact that Kiana got her ideals from Himeko, who got it from Ragna, and who originally learned it from Otto is just crazy. Even with his "selfish" desire he still fought the Honkai for the sake of humanity. Making himself take on the role of the villain to create heroes (Kiana and Durandal) that will continue the fight after he is gone. The man did monstrous things, no doubt about that. He has caused so much suffering. But his resolve and his genuine desire to do good in his own way is hard not to respect. So while I get why some people are upset that Otto was able to achieve his goal, I couldn't help but cheer for the man. 500 years of obsession made the man do horrific things, but also planted seeds of hope for the future. He's a really complex character and I already miss him in a weird way.
I actually recorded myself referencing this line but decided to cut it out since I wanted to focus on Otto XD and in general the vibe just didn't feel the same TvT but I definitely understood the reference!
I actually think a perfect phrase to describe Otto is: you either die as a hero, or live long enough to become the villain. I’m happy they decided to include the "Gratitude arc" manga in the animation, since those who haven't read it get finally to know how Kallen really died and it was because of Otto, who tried to create a commotion setting free a captured honkai beast. Hence his sense of guilt
BRUHHH my brain went pepega and forgot how she really died Hence, why I mentioned "mini honkai eruption" LMAOO Definitely need a refresher on the honkai mangas I've read a long time ago TvT His sense of guilt makes him very human, since it's normal for anyone to feel that way ; - ;
This is arguably the most piercing cinematic the devs have put together. One can argue why a cinematic focused on Otto and not in our main cast but if we all think about it, everyone in the cast has been either directly or indirectly affected by Otto in terms of growth. This was is send off, and damn its the perfect sendoff. Is his actions justified with this cinematic? Absolutely not, but it doesnt cover the fact that without Otto, our cast wouldnt be the way they are now. From Kiana who overcame Honkai's control with "love" to be a Herrscher that fights for humanity , to Bianka who is arguably the strongest Valkyrie in history who's growth is mainly influenced by Otto himself. Just as the lyrics said, this man only continued to move forward. Every step he took, sacrifices were made. Maybe he cared, maybe he didnt, but he knows he is the only one that can take that step towards his goal and he took it without hesitation. I hate you Otto, and I still do. But with all that said, you have my deepest respect for making your goals into reality even with how long it took you.
Kallen is everything to him to him the world is nothing without her, so actually he doesn't lose anything at all You can see how much he's happy in the end on his face "That is the most selfish thing one can do" just like that In the end He does it for himself for his HAPPINESS not for Kallen but at the same time Kallen is his WHOLE LIFE
After playing Kongming's event and seeing this, I clearly see the resemblance of Otto and Mr. Assassin. They both sacrifice everything, again and again, for the sake of reviving the one most dear to them. #respectforotto

He was a villain to all but a hero to Kallen. I really respect him now, doing that selfish thing for the only person who showed him genuine kindness. Kallen is a really lucky woman to have someone love her for a long time and is willing to become villain of the world just to give Kallen, the woman he loves a future.
FU otto has a new meaning now I'm not forgiving him now dou, but still respect As always, thanks for the awesome video Can't wait your gameplay to this chapter later
I actually hated Otto's guts back then but now they show us his past life which made me switch my point of view on him. It actually made me cry though. So BTW... The animation really is one of the best so far for Mihoyo to make such masterpiece... THEN I do sense a Main Story Honkai Impact anime in the future if these types of animations continue and gets better and better. If Honkai Impact ends there's a very very high possibility that the developers make it an anime.
The two brightest stars at the end might be Altair and Lyrae. Altair represents the cowherd, and Lyrae represents the weaver girl. Their story is one of the four greatest Chinese folktales, which is also the origin of Chinese Valentine's day. Simply put, they fell in love with each other but were forced to separate because of the disparity of their identities. And due to the Jade Emperor's punishment, they can only look at each other into the distance, across the Milky Way ( in mandarin it is called 'the Silver River' ). But their faithful love touched the nature. And on the 7th of 7th lunar month every year, countless magpies come and form a magpie bridge across the 'river' , so that they can meet each other.
I just can't look at Honkai Impact 3 anymore without Otto Apocalypse in there ruining everything and everyone's life. Everytime I wake up remembering that Otto's gone, it's just that void in my heart being emptied again by Otto and his farewell in this game and ending his life, yeah I just can't look at Honkai anymore without Otto. Otto that's how he impacted me by his dedication and everything for his loved one, Farewell Otto Apocalypse.
"The malice of this world shall be sundered by the villain." When he said this, it's like he was aware that he is a villain, and he accepted it, and still continued his goal. Chad.
You explained it very good, some i don't even know now i'm more and more in love with this Animation short and Otto. Long live the Greatest Inventor, Otto Apocalypse!

Thanks alot!! This really makes my day. I always try to improve my content and quality :D Definitely motivates me to do better, glad you enjoy it! and also appreciate how your friend recommended you my channel :> ❤️
A worthy end for Otto and I really shed a lot of tears. I hope in this new dimension he can finally live with Kallen. The animation shot trailer shows how awesome the honkai team is. Thank you for your beautiful video @zkodla
The "I" which is blurred in "REGRESSION" (on album cover)is refered to Otto himself. Our overseer made his action, sacrificed himself, and finally accomplished the "REVERSE" of time and the "REGRESS(I)ON" of Kallen!
I've watched it for the 4th time now, but this time it felt so difference. You made me shed tears. The followup animation and story breakdown is informative for me (as someone who barely knows/rmb the story despite playing daily for few years), and opened a new view and understanding to the deeper meaning from mihoyo. Great interpretation as usual.
I remember that the novel mentioned Kallen's death. Otto made a deal with his sister and released the Honkai beast to save Kallen, which accidentally killed her.
I'm just want to say that i just dreamed about Otto being with the Valkrie fighting together, i have thinking about him this past 3 days i just can't, this is too much for me.
I was literally bawling when the part "every night bring a dream but the day relentlessly keep me awake" . You truly see the scene of all the things he endured and all the villainy he have to perform to reach this one single goal in that scene. It make a grown ass man like me cry like a baby.
Something i love about otto is how self aware that he is a piece of crap of a person even before callen died, he pushed her away and doomoed her to die, twice, despite her being the only one that treated him as a lovable person, only after she died did he understood how little did he actually do for her despite how much she meant to him, so even after doing what she would have liked, like opening an orphanatum and plenty of charity, he would never find peace in his heart since she can't have that happyness anymore, hence nothing what happens after matters to him so long he can right that wrong, when he said "wrongs heroes and breeds scum" very clearly meand callen and him, and how easy he had it against how much callen struggled, it makes no sense, so why not spitting on that natural order on the face by breaking reality? Respect to the guy
I agree with you on this one zKodla… from all the characters in Honkai Impact for me Otto is the one who is most human in this game why? Because humans will betray, lie, love and many others and this man [Otto Apocalypse] shows us how it’s done to be Human especially on his goal and that is to save Kallen Kaslana.
I love his dedication. Even though I hated him, I still gotta respect his dedication. After all those years, he never gave up. 😭😭😭 Otto I love you man but I still hate you a little. I think the song nightglow really suited Otto's 😭😭😭
I didn't watch the CG after my third rewatch tbh, it just hurts to much that he's basically the embodiment of humanity's obsession and selfishness that we're willing to go beyond lengths just to achieve our goals. If he had found the answer sooner, he could've been humanity's biggest ally, but alas, he found eureka when he became the villain in everyone's eyes. I still have so much to say but I can't put my thoughts out, but he made everyone win in the gamble he made.
Very good analysis of music . I did not considered Otto as villain as said everybody has a goal in life and real loss in battle is when you cannot achieve that goal . We should sacrifice ourselves to full fill that goal as there is no such thing called peace and friend . like other animals Humans are trying to survive in this world to fullfill there goal as long as you are alive . And I am happy that after 500 years of pain and try hard , he finnally wins the battle . " Let the world be doomed But let not your love go away " by Aphrodite , the goddess of love.
Thank you for this video! Watching the animation while listening to your analysis actually made me become more emotional that I teared up a bit. I still don’t like him due to his past actions but man do I respect him and how far he’s gone to achieve his goal of reviving Kallen, his sole definition of everything good in humanity.
Otto's story and the story of NieR: Gestalt kinda remind me of each other. They are somewhat similiar yet vastly different. Otto's always been seeing as the calculating villain who's following his own agenda, no matter the cost. Yet we see him show kindness and compassion at times. In the end he does the ultimate sacrifice in order to grant someone else the chance to live (which may result in many saved lifes considering it's Kallen we're talking about). It's a soft step towards redemption. It makes readers/ viewers question their opinion about Otto, if even for just a second. How far would everyone of us go in order to save that one person who kept your life in balance and made it worthwhile? And in NieR we are presented with the hero's side of view who does all these heroic deeds for a good cause. And at the end the viewer is puzzled and doesn't know what to think of what we just witnessed (not gonna spoiler details, just in case). It's this brilliant moment where black & white aren't that simplistic anymore. When we remember Shakespeare who said "There's neither good or evil but thinking makes it so." and this is oh so true. Brilliant writing which makes characters like these so memorable. Huh, also reminds me of Ardyn! Well I'll be damned.
@@Kodla Yes, exactly that Ardyn. But unlike Otto he was a very likeable character. Even more so after his Episode got finally released and the truth got revealed.
I think Otto calls it the most selfish thing he can do because of all the terrible things he did to accomplish his goal. He was very self aware of his own crimes and knew the goal was ultimately selfish, bringing back a loved one taken too soon, which is something so many people in the world would wish for. Despite this, Otto hurt people precious to others such as Himeko, the first Welt, Cecilia, etc.
I remembered u made a video about who the real kiana is. Although u dun have enough evidence at the time and just a possibility on the side, u actually nailed it!
I've been waiting for your reaction. You have the best insights and analysis among all other reaction video made by others. I am quite enjoying it! Good work!!!
I can't believe you're still hearting comments after a year, but I'm rather late to Honkai Impact 3 and oh my gosh. This is all so tragic. Otto really showed us that in the end, maybe there isn't much of a difference between a hero and a villain after all; the same strong sense of hope, determination, and humanity shines through. Otto truly is undeserving of forgiveness, but very much deserving of respect. He was so selfish, but also so selfless for Kallen. But in the end his "selflessness" was also an incredibly selfish desire. Hard to put into words LOLL 😭😭 The best villains are the ones that you can truly understand. A great representation of humanity -- it can be so beautiful yet so cruel (we suck, basically, but we're also kinda amazing) PS I came here from HSR!
Of course! I read each and every comment :) 🥰 and cherish those that leave them! You put in good words too, that Otto does not deserve forgiveness for what he has done - but one cant help but to respect him. Like, tbh its a representation of society, we all have our bad sides and not all of us are perfect, but that makes us human TwT a beautifully tragic story for Otto and Kallen
I can always count on you for lore analysis and stuff so i can appreciate them more since im not the most lore intensive person especially when i played honkai on 2018 and went into a hiatus midway. I forgot many of the stuff before and havent got the time to review them. Thank you kodla xD
I once stated that Otto holds the same "If rescuing you is a sin, I'll gladly become a sinner." mentality as Mei but to the extreme. Got bashed by some for comparing them lol. Anyways, imo Otto actually parallels quite a few of the characters in HI3. Namely Himeko and Mei, but as I've stated previously he's playing it to the extreme and he was "too late". You could also throw in the captain (captainverse) in there especially considering the recent rerun. For Himeko, the prominent similarity between the two of them is self-sacrifice to give another person a chance. Difference being, as highlighted quite a few times in the story especially by the puppets, Himeko is only POTENTIALLY endangering lives by saving Kiana (Kiana was, as per her own words, a ticking time bomb). While Otto HAS endangered and destroyed many lives. As for Mei, it's the "If rescuing you is a sin, I'll gladly become a sinner." line. Note that it starts with an IF, as in she would do it, and from what we've seen she really hasn't done much bad stuff so uhh... you know it still stays mostly as a possibility and not reality. While Otto on the other hand has definitely committed a lot of "sins". It becomes more like "I have become a sinner to rescue you" and to him this ain't even a bad thing, again an extreme version of the same basic concept. Captain, well. Both trying their asses off trying to save a white-haired girl lol. One enduring over 500 years of pain, the other countless jumps in time. Also, one's solution is related more to the imaginary tree while the other is more towards the sea of quanta. And for them 3, they were able to "make it in time" to save the person they want to save while Otto was "too late". Tough luck, buddy. Add to the fact he was indirectly responsible for Kallen's death, just imagine the feeling of guilt the man has. In a way kinda like how Kiana felt super guilty about hurting those around her especially Himeko. Now imagine that feeling of guilt festering for over half a millennium without any proper closure. Now all this does not absolve Otto of all his crimes and sins. It absolves ZERO of them. It just puts into perspective how bad some other characters could have ended up if the circumstances were to align like how it did for Otto. Now I wonder who'll be the next person in the main story to fill in the gigantic shoes left by Otto Apocalypse, the most selfish bastard who in his final moments chose the most selfless path.
That is not a mini Honkai eruption. That are the Honkai beast that the church keep under the cathedral if I'm not mistaken that was released by Otto to give Kallen a chance to escape.
It was really nice to listen to your analysis and breakdown of the important events leading to this point, you really put in the extra work and it makes all of the difference. Now, my only questions are... Where does the story go from here and how will it transition to APHO? Great Reaction, thank you, Captain!
Hey Gavin! Thanks for your nice comment :D I've seen your videos too! Glad you have been enjoying Honkai, and may all the beauty be blessed Excited to see how the story will unfold from here on out \o/
@@Kodla That's incredibly humbling, haha thanks for that. It's an amazing journey and I hope it continues to blow our minds! Keep up the awesome content, zKodla!
THE BEST SONG SO FAR !! really has the best vibe among the other OSTs, and i agree with what you said regarding how they improved from Everlasting Flame.., gosh darn it Otto; i also really liked this animation because you understand him just a little bit more and because it doesn’t excuse his actions. the epitome of well-written !!! 🖤
also, sorry it’s been a while Kodla, like me not joining streams... January and 2022 so far have been kinda hectic, especially with how bad Omicron was for the PH. am excited to for what’s to come tho, especially 5.5 !! let’s get it am also pulling for Zhongli tomorrow HAHA wish me luck, i need it badly
Really a well-written character! and no worries about it Allister :D please take care of yourself, and make sure to rest well. We'll always be here chilling out, so no rush :) good luck on pulling for Zhongli tomorrow!
I love you haha. I am very grateful for your reviews, my native language is Spanish and I am not completely fluent in English. So when you make these videos, I can understand a lot of things better, seriously, you don't know the help you give me. I hope to continue counting on your useful content. I appreciate you a lot because you really demonstrate your vast knowledge in the lore and that for me, is to really love something, to see the dedication that one has to something, as it is to this wonderful game and it is more than a simple game. Anyway, thank you very much and keep fighting for everything beautiful in the world. Sorry for my english if i have mistakes redacting.
I'm very glad you enjoyed the analysis! Very happy that you found it helpful :D I tried my best to condense it and make it organised so it wont be too confusing XD
Finally able to watch this after completing the content in game. Love your lore analysis and breakdown of the Animated Short. Still have conflicted feeling about Otto, but he stay true to himself and finally able to achieve his goal after 500 years. Impressive. 😢
The line saying: (life is too long to end at a grave). Really resonates with me, recently my grandfather died of cancer. He was such a human who bargains at shops to raise the price not to lower it he always said to them (son that price is too low, you work every day you deserve more). He didn't know what lying was and was like a child so innocent and naive. The thing that got me the most was how much he was scared of death, he hid his cries and smiled despite his fear. No human really deserves such suffering.
I've been waiting for your reaction! I always loved your reaction, it makes me feel like I'm not crying alone 😭 I used to hate Otto so much, but now I hate him with respect
Tbh i started playing this game around 80 days ago and i did complete all the stories recently. Every time i saw this guy just as a villain and never liked his sussy appearance but after this cut scenes man i felt his pain, suffering and lastly salute for his sacrifice. He deserve better. He did everything to save her. I actually cried in this scene lol. Rest in peace Otto Apocalypse 🙏
Otto of all people actually got me the most emotional out of the entire Honkai cast. Truly brilliantly written and the song too is so beautiful and emotional. One thing I haven't seen anyone mention is that Otto's younger self still exists in the new timeline he created. In a way, this is a new beginning for him, he created a better timelime for not only Kallen but also himself. Hopefully Otto can lead a better life there together with Kallen.
Though I do hate him, the things he'd done we're fucked up,but respect him 100% , In the past 500 years He did all of this, just for the girl he loved, At least his 500 year journey didn't go to waste
Mihoyo managed to make me cry although I convinced myself that I will not cry over Otto but surprisingly they succeed. Otto is the most well written character I ever know in my life. ❤️
Excelente análisis! Es increíble lo que Otto hizo por la persona más importante para él, logró darle una nueva oportunidad de vivir a Kallen, ese acto es egoísta, pero hermoso a la vez.
Ur explanation is really heart-touching. For me, Otto is undoubtedly the most well-written villain I have ever known till now. Yes, we hate him from time to time for the destruction he had craved along the path of his dreams, the life he had stolen, the happiness he had crushed. But we cannot denied that his determination is indeed honorable. His legacies( which later we all gonna find out) are the most powerful Herrscher that fights for humanity (Kiana), and the most powerful Herrscher-killing Valkyrie (Dudu) and so much more. He has done horrible deeds, but he also done well many good things. IMO he really brings Mei’s saying in Lament of the Fallen to the next level.
Truly goes to show that there is no absolute "good" or "evil" in the world. Everyone has a mix of both selfishness and selflessness depending on the situation. For me, I think this is what made me relate to the animation so much compared to the rest :')
maybe the community have been treat you so harshly until now because of what you have done, some maybe won't forgive what you're doing, but you still did great for humanity, you indirectly protecting it while aiming for you own goal Now rest well,Our greatest inventor
SPOILERS
He made deal with will of honkai that durandal and kiana will still win although he become enforcer of imaginary tree but WoH don't believe it.
Honestly periodt sis💅
But I still won't forgive his immoral actions though.
...you can die as hero or live a long time until become a villain...
@@Kodla oh I’m not saying to forgive him I just love how well written he is.

I saw a comment at Bilibili mentioning the Stars in the scene where Otto and Kallen sleeping are The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl (牛郎织女), which kind of representing their fate of never being together. 😢
oh gosh your making me cry uglier😭😭😭😭
I can't believe it but i'm happy for Otto Apocalypse. Without discounting all the atrocities that he has done, i have so much respect for the man. After 500 years of constant torture, finally he finds his closure. Now that he is now gone, i'm gonna go and have a drink but not to celebrate, instead i will leave a glass open in his honour. May you rest in peace, Otto Apocalypse. The maddest human to ever existed, but also in my opinion, the most human of all.
My thoughts exactly! The realism that he brings ... very relatable at times honestly
The Lyrics of the song were something else. That "Life is too long to end at a grave" line hit me so hard.
Mihoyo did Otto's character so much justice. They truly gave the perfect ending for him.
ye :(( His ending was him finally saving kallen but in the process of sacrificing himself 😔
One of my favourite lyrics from Regression, hands down!
The last scene of Otto coming down like a shooting star resembles Himeko so much I just cant
23:56 I made a comparison for this in the vid! :D It has a lot of resemblance TvT
I’m crying- T^T
Also resembles when fuhua and kiana were also coming down like a shooting star in Everlasting Flames
Mihoyo : "Fight for all that's beautiful in the world"
Otto : "Kallen is only one and the most beautiful in my world"
Result : Otto mess up the entire world to save Kallen
Me : You're such a protagonist-like villain, Otto!
Every protagonist is always a villain in the other protagonist's story and likewise, Every villain is always a protagonist in his own story
true cool man!
The 9 items showcased in Otto's web event really ... sheds a lot of light on his character. Theresa's part really got to me :')
I apologize if there are any errors in my analysis Let me know what I can do better, and I will improve :D
Correction:
1. It was not a mini honkai eruption. Otto released the Honkai Beasts to give Kallen a chance to escape. Unfortunately, she died instead trying to save the people. (idk why i forgot this info from the manga 💀😭)
It's okay about that, don't worry
Sokay 😗 it's delivered
Just saw this comment after finished watching the video and just realized it's 30 minutes long :teriderp:
Amazing details that you've mentioned!! I didn't realise it myself ; - ;
Definitely. She even said it herself in Chapter 26: "In some way, you can say I'm a selfish person".
Considering that, I'd go even further:
The things Otto has done over the course of the story have led to the pain and suffering of many in the story, and even arguably us the audience.
Nothing in the world is black and white. There is always a mix of both. I think this is what made this animation very relatable and human ...
He is basically the *Gilles de Rais* to Kallen's _"Jeanne D'Arc"_
The animation is the first time i actually CRIED for otto💀😭

Aside his personal disregard for people as persons, this question is here
The thing is, every bubble world without Otto is a dead end. His actions thus far are what 𝐊𝐄𝐏𝐓 𝐇𝐔𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐈𝐓𝐘 𝐆𝐎𝐈𝐍𝐆 even if they were evil.

@@lopezroilans.8384 That's the right way to look at it.
15:54 YESSS GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE XD I thought I was the only one who realised!! What a nice touch by miHoYo bruh, seriously brilliant
Yeah she even nailed the song lyrics, it made so much sense compared to what other people are saying about otto and why they "hate" him
He isn’t just an anti-hero. He isn’t just an amazing villain. He’s Otto fucking Apocalypse.
If saving you is a sin, than let me be the sinner
I actually recorded myself referencing this line but decided to cut it out since I wanted to focus on Otto XD and in general the vibe just didn't feel the same TvT but I definitely understood the reference!
I actually think a perfect phrase to describe Otto is: you either die as a hero, or live long enough to become the villain.
I’m happy they decided to include the "Gratitude arc" manga in the animation, since those who haven't read it get finally to know how Kallen really died and it was because of Otto, who tried to create a commotion setting free a captured honkai beast. Hence his sense of guilt
BRUHHH my brain went pepega and forgot how she really died Hence, why I mentioned "mini honkai eruption" LMAOO Definitely need a refresher on the honkai mangas I've read a long time ago TvT His sense of guilt makes him very human, since it's normal for anyone to feel that way ; - ;
This is arguably the most piercing cinematic the devs have put together. But with all that said, you have my deepest respect for making your goals into reality even with how long it took you.
o7 to Otto. mad respect for him because god knows how much internal suffering he went through for eons ...
The 2D animation style is so pretty ;_; it fits such a story
Kallen is everything to him
to him the world is nothing without her, so actually he doesn't lose anything at all
You can see how much he's happy in the end on his face
"That is the most selfish thing one can do" just like that
In the end He does it for himself for his HAPPINESS
not for Kallen but at the same time Kallen is his WHOLE LIFE
After playing Kongming's event and seeing this, I clearly see the resemblance of Otto and Mr. Assassin. They both sacrifice everything, again and again, for the sake of reviving the one most dear to them. #respectforotto
Lmao true but mr assassins isn't an asshole

I love that for Otto and Imaginary Tree parts they went full 3D, while for Kallen part they went with different animation choice, more classic 2D-ish.
He was a villain to all but a hero to Kallen.
I really respect him now, doing that selfish thing for the only person who showed him genuine kindness. Kallen is a really lucky woman to have someone love her for a long time and is willing to become villain of the world just to give Kallen, the woman he loves a future.
FU otto has a new meaning now
I'm not forgiving him now dou, but still respect
As always, thanks for the awesome video
Can't wait your gameplay to this chapter later
It's a fine day to get emotionally destroyed by Honkai Impact.
Still can't believe they made me cry for Otto. FUCKING OTTO OF ALL PEOPLE!!
I also truly hope there would be an anime in the future!
I like how I cried more here on Otto’s death rather than Himeko’s
I love your explanation! It really make me understand everything more and now it's makes me want to cry more 😭😭😭
finally found a reactor who's not only reaction but also explaining things, putting a great amount of information thankyou very much for that:)))
"The malice of this world shall be sundered by the villain." When he said this, it's like he was aware that he is a villain, and he accepted it, and still continued his goal. Chad.
gigaChad indeed. Absolutely loved that line from him. He was definitely self-aware of the crimes that he did.
You explained it very good, some i don't even know now i'm more and more in love with this Animation short and Otto.
Long live the Greatest Inventor, Otto Apocalypse!
I'm glad it helped you understand Otto's motivations more :D thanks for watching!
I swear seeing otto disturbed(not really disturbed, i just cant find the right word to describe it) is so weird because we see him so unfazed all the time
Also thank you for the upload zkolda ive been waiting for your reaction

Love him or hate him, I don't care, using the oath of Judah as a freaking shotgun has got to be the most badass thing I've ever seen
I really doubt any other villain in Honkai coming after this will be as good as him but I shall have faith in mhy's writing team
Just found out about this channel from a friend's recommendation. Seen your previous videos on analysis and I really like how you dived deep into the meanings. Very insightful and I wish more people would come across your channel and have this kind of thinking.
Thank you for the nice comment! :D Very happy that the analysis was useful to you!!
I remember that the novel mentioned Kallen's death. Otto made a deal with his sister and released the Honkai beast to save Kallen, which accidentally killed her.
Thank you! I forgot about this TvT pepega moment
BRUH
I'm just want to say that i just dreamed about Otto being with the Valkrie fighting together, i have thinking about him this past 3 days i just can't, this is too much for me.
I was literally bawling when the part "every night bring a dream but the day relentlessly keep me awake" . You truly see the scene of all the things he endured and all the villainy he have to perform to reach this one single goal in that scene. It make a grown ass man like me cry like a baby.
cried so much during the middle-last parts of this animation, couldn’t manange to hold back my tears this time 😭😭
Something i love about otto is how self aware that he is a piece of crap of a person even before callen died, he pushed her away and doomoed her to die, twice, despite her being the only one that treated him as a lovable person, only after she died did he understood how little did he actually do for her despite how much she meant to him, so even after doing what she would have liked, like opening an orphanatum and plenty of charity, he would never find peace in his heart since she can't have that happyness anymore, hence nothing what happens after matters to him so long he can right that wrong, when he said "wrongs heroes and breeds scum" very clearly meand callen and him, and how easy he had it against how much callen struggled, it makes no sense, so why not spitting on that natural order on the face by breaking reality? Respect to the guy
I agree with you on this one zKodla… from all the characters in Honkai Impact for me Otto is the one who is most human in this game why? Because humans will betray, lie, love and many others and this man [Otto Apocalypse] shows us how it’s done to be Human especially on his goal and that is to save Kallen Kaslana.
Good to know that we are in the same agreement :D
HI KLEF! nice to see you here :D
Same thoughts, this is Otto's final lesson.
his equivalent exchange, a life for a life.
" Let the world be doomed
But let not your love go away " by Aphrodite , the goddess of love.
Exactly, and this is what makes this animation so much more relatable. TvT
Thank you for this video! Watching the animation while listening to your analysis actually made me become more emotional that I teared up a bit. I still don’t like him due to his past actions but man do I respect him and how far he’s gone to achieve his goal of reviving Kallen, his sole definition of everything good in humanity.
He is unforgivable, but he also deserves our respect for everything he went through and finally achieved.
Himeko: "Kiana, live"
Otto: "Kallen, live"
Okay noted miHoYo... Whenever someone in honkai says "live" someone else dies...
Ardyn from FFXV? :D I play that too!! Great analysis btw :) I second what you have said!!
Despite this, Otto hurt people precious to others such as Himeko, the first Welt, Cecilia, etc.
exactly my thoughts
Definitely. Since he also mentions it himself, that he knows he's a villain :')
btw i really love the 2d animation, man,i really need Second eruption anime
I remembered u made a video about who the real kiana is. Although u dun have enough evidence at the time and just a possibility on the side, u actually nailed it!
I've been waiting for your reaction. You have the best insights and analysis among all other reaction video made by others. I am quite enjoying it! Good work!!!
Thanks TvT I’m happy that you are enjoying it :D
I can't believe you're still hearting comments after a year, but I'm rather late to Honkai Impact 3 and oh my gosh. This is all so tragic. Otto really showed us that in the end, maybe there isn't much of a difference between a hero and a villain after all; the same strong sense of hope, determination, and humanity shines through. Otto truly is undeserving of forgiveness, but very much deserving of respect. He was so selfish, but also so selfless for Kallen. But in the end his "selflessness" was also an incredibly selfish desire. Hard to put into words LOLL 😭😭
The best villains are the ones that you can truly understand. A great representation of humanity -- it can be so beautiful yet so cruel (we suck, basically, but we're also kinda amazing)
PS I came here from HSR!
Of course! I read each and every comment :) 🥰 and cherish those that leave them! You put in good words too, that Otto does not deserve forgiveness for what he has done - but one cant help but to respect him. Like, tbh its a representation of society, we all have our bad sides and not all of us are perfect, but that makes us human TwT
a beautifully tragic story for Otto and Kallen
To quote somebody from reddit
"Otto's greatest invention is the new future he made for Kallen and the growth of the honkaiverse"
CRYING
I can always count on you for lore analysis and stuff so i can appreciate them more since im not the most lore intensive person especially when i played honkai on 2018 and went into a hiatus midway. I forgot many of the stuff before and havent got the time to review them.
Thank you kodla xD
This is one of the best cgs so far imo, iv already watched it like a 100 times lol
Now I wonder who'll be the next person in the main story to fill in the gigantic shoes left by Otto Apocalypse, the most selfish bastard who in his final moments chose the most selfless path.
when mihoyo can make us even cry for otto out of all people, you know this is the best game
TwT
That is not a mini Honkai eruption. That are the Honkai beast that the church keep under the cathedral if I'm not mistaken that was released by Otto to give Kallen a chance to escape.
Your analyzes never let me down; I really like how attentive you are to the details that most of us miss. Congratulations zKodla!

I'm so sorry to hear that. Please take care!

Thank you for waiting! :D
Ok, you explained everything so well that you just deserve a sub

At least his 500 year journey didn't go to waste
Mihoyo managed to make me cry although I convinced myself that I will not cry over Otto but surprisingly they succeed. Otto is the most well written character I ever know in my life. ❤️
Excelente análisis! Es increíble lo que Otto hizo por la persona más importante para él, logró darle una nueva oportunidad de vivir a Kallen, ese acto es egoísta, pero hermoso a la vez.
gracias!!
Thank you, I'm a person who is struggling to understand all of the honkai lore since a few months so video like this is really helpful tho :3c
no problem! glad it was helpful to you :D ❤️
Even though he's done so much terrible and unspeakable things, you can't help to respect his determination and desire to be with his world.
maybe the community have been treat you so harshly until now because of what you have done, some maybe won't forgive what you're doing, but you still did great for humanity, you indirectly protecting it while aiming for you own goal
Now rest well,Our greatest inventor
