Icelandair's HUGE Plan for A321LR and Says Farewell to Boeing! Here's Why
A small celebratory event recently took place at Icelandair's Reykjavík-Keflavík hub to welcome the airline’s first Airbus A321 LR. Notably, this is not just a normal aircraft delivery but a milestone marking a significant shift in the airline's operations, after 87 years of loyalty to Boeing aircraft.
But why is an airline that has predominantly operated Boeing aircraft making this change? How will this new strategy impact the airline's operations? Let's explore!
    New aircraft
Icelandair's HUGE Plan for A321LR and Says Farewell to Boeing! Here's Why
The first Airbus A321 LR of Icelandair made its debut on a rainy day with flowers presented to the flight crew before the aircraft was moved to the hangar. It is part of Icelandair’s order of seven, with four expected to arrive in the coming months to meet the demand for the summer peak season. By the summer of 2026, three additional LR's will join the fleet. Complementing the A321 LR fleet, the airline has also ordered XLR's, with the first delivery scheduled for 2029 - Icelandair plans to incorporate 13 XLR's, as per an agreement signed with Airbus on July 2023.
This milestone marks a significant shift in Icelandair’s fleet strategy, as the airline, after nearly 9 decades, has introduced an Airbus aircraft for the first time, moving away from its exclusive reliance on Boeing aircraft.
    But first, who is Icelandair?
Icelandair's HUGE Plan for A321LR and Says Farewell to Boeing! Here's Why
Icelandair is the national airline of Iceland, established in 1937. It plays a crucial role in connecting the country with the rest of the world through both international and domestic flights. Icelandair is distinguished by its "hub" strategy, utilizing Keflavik International Airport to link destinations in North America and Europe via Iceland. The airline operates a mixed fleet of narrow-body aircraft, including Boeing 737 Max, Boeing 757, and 767. This marks the first time the airline has welcomed a new aircraft that is not from Boeing.
Why has Icelandair, a long-time Boeing operator, chosen to transition to the Airbus A321 LR instead of continuing with Boeing jets?

Get your facts correct. You show a Vickers Viscount at 1.23 and suggest it is 1937. The Viscount was introduced in the 1950s and was British and the world's first turboprop airliner and in service util the late 1960s

@flig aVia, "Airbus should consider developing cargo-specific versions of the A320XL and A321XLR. These aircraft could redefine industry standards, providing unmatched efficiency and versatility for cargo operators. Such a move would undoubtedly be a game-changer and solidify Airbus's position as an industry leader."

Well, at least if it is Garuda Indonesia's subsidiary Citilink can have huge plan plan for AIRBUS A321lr just like Icelandair. Even though Indonesia Air Asia could have more AIRBUS A320's and A321's for the future to beat Lion air's fleet as I know is the world's most worst airline ever because of always got delayed every flight route on Domestic route and also Umroh and Hajj route even worst airline too as I know.
